“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
Albert Einstein's quote seems to become reality faster every day.

+Spiritelligence Yes, perhaps after the technological demise of humankind there will only be some small groups of people left, thrown back into into the stone age. Then evolution can start anew. Even if all people, animals and plants die, life will probably evolve again from micro-cellular life from the ocean.

You DO know the quote was supposed to show that the creation of nuclear weapons is going to destroy mankind to the point where the next ww will be fought using ancient tools. And is not compatible with the dying of 60% of animals due to human activity speeding up the next extinction.

Technological progress is the great filter of all intelligent species in the universe. We all evolve from a brutal biological background, so we have these instincts that cause us to do things like destroy the ecosystems that support us. We use up all the fossil fuels that have been generated over millions of years. Any other intelligent species will do the same thing. That's why we don't see any super-advanced space faring species. Their evolutionary psychology basically guarantees that they'll kill themselves with the super-tech they invent. Both sad and beautiful. Hopefully something will make it

I am seeing pessimism everywhere, why can't we have some optimism? Hope? If you all act like our doom is inevitable and use that as an excuse to act recklessly then it will come true. But if you hope that things will get better and work towards it, then there's a chance that humanity can survive and flourish.

That would need the participation of a shit load of people. One way to make them do so is with education. Problem with the system, or at least the system in my place, is that education seems a bit disconnected from reality.
What is taught in school is supposed to children ideas on how to make the world better. Usually though, students are intimidated by the esotericism associated with certain disciplines. Teacher don't seems to do much about it, and most children end up unable to appreciate what is taught to them..

Doesn't really matter anymore. We have killed our environment, now it's killing us. The damage we have done over the last 200 years will take MILLIONS of years to reverse (if it ever does, just look at Venus to see how this planet may end up). All this talk about slowing the affects of 'us' is just that, talk. These are conversations we should have been having 100 years ago, and the main cause of the whole mess, over population... But it's ok, the planet is sorting it out, by kicking us off.

That's because the changes required would eroded their power/wealth. Q.E.D. we're screws.

+Bill Smith most likely they will go extinct in your lifetime, the most recent models have suggested even if we curve climate change by 2 degrees every year - for 10 years; we will still see severe effects in 50 years. The polar bear is fucked, unless we clone them...

I think the funniest part about these videos is that they still don't account for the new data showing that there was another more devastating global catastrophe that caused a mass extinction. Ever heard of Graham Hancock or Randall Carlsson? Their information is on point and brings to light some interesting stuff.

Explicit Tech It would be great to see developing nation embrace wind, solar, geothermal and nuclear. But because, developing nations are indebted to oil and gas companies, they make it an obstacle for developing nations.

    "shelled squid"
*nautilus dies, is replaced with shell of ammonoid, which is neither a nautiloid or a squid.

I saw this documentary called the day after tomorrow and apparently we’ll slip into the next ice age not in a 100 years but in 6-8 days. Fortunately everyone can move into Mexico where it’ll still be warm. I’m surprised you didn’t mention this.

I think mass extinctions occur more often then we think, just 13000 years ago we had the biggest mass extinction event this planet has ever seen in 5 million years

That last bit is a very noble idea, but it would require a global cooperation to reduce our numbers over the coming decades through limiting births. Sadly I don’t see that happening.

actually, population growth isn't the real issue. consumption is. 50% of emissions are attributable to the top 1% of society. its unlikely that the elites will change their ways

My hypothesis is that when a major species is able to change the earth in any way or form, the earth will react with a major reaction and cause a massive self cleanse aka mass extinction to help it become new or a renaissance..... A rebirth... And from the looks of it we humans are gonna go through a mass extinction very soon...

Want to know how the dodo went extinct?
The Dutch landed on an island, and a dodo walked up to them and looked up the gun barrel
They then hunted them for sport and trashed the meat, saying it tasted bad
