We use up all the fossil fuels that have been generated over millions of years. Any other intelligent species will do the same thing. That's why we don't see any super-advanced space faring species. Their evolutionary psychology basically guarantees that they'll kill themselves with the super-tech they invent. Both sad and beautiful. Hopefully something will make it

But if you hope that things will get better and work towards it, then there's a chance that humanity can survive and flourish.
