    What is your ignition setup? I see an old style coil and no vacuum advance hooked up..... There are some really good setups out there. I run an HEI that triggers an old Jacobs Ignition box and Jacobs high energy coil with an aftermarket adjustable vacuum advance tuned with a shitload of advance at idle and run 40* total. My 454 is in a 4500 lb ‘72 C10 and outruns all these LS3 vettes....I wish it was in a C3 and weighed 1000 lbs less, it would run 10 sec quarter miles.

    Such music to my ears! I have a sliver '73 LS4 that needs to breathe better. So many question. My car is a two owner and the second owner was my brother so I know the complete history. It is a numbers matching survivor and I have been entrusted with it. I feel I do not want to molest this beauty but if I can bring this 50 year old time piece up with modernized ignition and other options while organizing and saving original parts , armed with information on the feasibility, I might be inclined to do so. Your machine is so nice. Mine is a Turbo 400 and the RPM clicking at 3 grand at 70 just kills me knowing that massive torque (r) can be happier much lower. Don't get me wrong it will get away from you if your not carful and triple digits are mere seconds away if you so chose. Even stock as de rated as this engine is ( 275 hp and 390 ft/lbs torque with 8.25:1 compression) the sound and feel is holy. The car invokes spirits and feelings which you thought were long gone. Congratulations on your rare beauty.

      Your car sounds like a great piece.. the stock ls4 is no slouch either. When I had the stock ls4 in this car it ran 13.4 at 104mph on radials. Yes I had the hooker sidepipes on and msd distributor at 38 total, but stock egr manifold and qjet. Don’t believe the hype about “smog motor”. Let it breathe and it can run.

      @daveyboy6832 3 роки тому +3

      Its an edelbrock 5061 Torker 2.0. Your options are very limited due to hood clearance as you already know. Other intakes that will fit are the Holley 300-3 Street Dominator (obsolete but can be found on eBay), an LS6 Rectangle Port (yes you can put a rectangle port intake on an oval port head, or the Aluminum L36 intake from the 68/69 427 cars (expensive). The L36 is a spread bore only, the 300-3 can use a square bore or spread bore, and the other two are square bore only.

    It's a Vette but g-damn.
    How could they have made such an ugly back bumper. 74 was a terrible year for almost all cars.

      Not really much else they could have done with that 5 mph bumper law dropped in their lap, look at the Camaro for 74.

      I have to admit to liking the 74 Camaro. A friend of mine had a 74 Z/28 and he did that thing up sweet. It was sort of a gold color with a black vinyl top, traction bars, side pipes, nice wheels and tires, black racing stripe, the car was sitting just right. I miss the individualality car owners had back in those days.

    You two have no idea about cars do you. You both are what I call driving enthusiasts as opposed to car guys. The type to frequent cars and coffee and not know anything about your car other than the words in the catalogue.

      lol, what don’t we know Lollipop? We’ve both been working on our own cars for over 30 years. Why don’t you post up some videos of all of your expertise?
