whats your guy's theme intro song?
@Michael Schneider
It’s called “Feel the Love”, Alex wrote it for his band Kings and Culprits! He’s got even better tracks too, enjoy! 🔥🤟🏻
@@andyandalex Its a good song, 'hey".
I like the song, also!

This song is a speeding ticket personified.
The story goes that a reporter asked them how they wrote songs. Blackmore starting riffing on one note and Gillan started making up lyrics. They opened their show later that night with "Highway Star" Easy as that.
Definitely my favorite Deep Purple song.
Face melter
True, they were on the tour bus early one morning heading to their next performance venue when the reporter traveling with them asked the question. They did play that song later that night and then refined it somewhat afterwards.
@@Prozak63 Just sounds like one of those "It ain't true but it oughta' be" stories. I believe it, though. Inspiration can come from anything, anywhere.
Saw Deep Purple early in the Ian Gillan era. He really could sing like that live. He really didn't need a microphone. What a powerful voice!
Saw Deep Purple right about this time. Second on the bill were Rod Stewart and the Faces. Rod was at his most charismatic. What a night!
@@genebrenner855 Stay with Me and Highway Star on the same song would've been a hell of a trip. Crucify me for this but I prefer Ronnie Wood in the Faces compared to that little obscure band he joined a few years later and is still a part of 49 years later.
This song was born on a tour bus going to Portsmouth UK in 1971, when a reporter asked the band
how they wrote songs. To demonstrate, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore grabbed an acoustic guitar and began playing
a riff consisting of a single g repeated over and over, while vocalist Ian Gillan improvised lyrics over the top.
the song was refined and was performed that same night.
5:43 Blackmore attacking the neck. One of the best guitar solos ever. Listened to it 1000 times over the years and still kicks ass every time.
"Highway Star - Bringing You Late-Night Speeding Tickets Since 1972"
Damn Straight Buddy!!! When you're stoning and boozing down a highway at 3 in the morning going to Fort Wayne!!!!
M. Gideon Hoyle ha ha ha ..... yep
Oh hell yes! Heading down Hwy-17 to a beach near Santa Cruz
I might know something about that........and it was in 72! 78 in a 60. Guilty!
So true, dammit.
Rest In Peace Jon Lord. His keyboards on the Hammond organ, overdriven like an electric guitar, made their music what it was.
Jon was a genius on his Beast. There used to be a video, got banned, but it showed him explaining how the Hammond was made into the Beast. Was amazing.
A force.
@G W yeah, a true innovator. Sadly missed
@@wickedmirage Hi! ...When you say the video "got banned", do you mean it was not playable in your country, or was it actually taken down? If it's the restriction on where you are problem, that is easily remedied by using a VPN... Even the free ones are good for that. Cheers!
@@robertcartier5088 It was removed/taken down from UA-cam.
On occasion, I had to drive my late husband's '89 GT. I realised I could never keep that car because, while driving down a stretch of road which has never (in 38 years) seen a cop, I always yelled, "Eight cylinders, all mine!
"Child in Time" is a must Deep Purple. Vocals are out of this world.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAAHH!!
No.
I just love watching you young whippersnappers enjoying timeless classic rock...
I love enjoying it 😂
@@alexfromandyandalex8032 are you the one with the long hair you got a unique vibe going with your head movements
" whippersnappers"? I was a teenager in the 60's and only our parents ever used that expression
Fan since this album.....it's cool to see you young guys enjoy it too....the generation then was the best Craig Goldsberry /O'Briant
I defy anyone to show me the bands of today with this level of instrumentality!
This is music played by rock gods. 1 thru 10 ? Are kidding me? I give it a nine hundred and twelve out of ten
They wouldn't know a Strat from a strut🤣
Deep sounds. Nothing compares these day.
Animals as Leaders. Mastodon.

I love seeing younger people discover old music as new, warms this middle aged man’s heart
Greatest driving song of all time..?? Deep Purple had so much talent....their live shows are amazing.
This whole album rocks it's their best selling album
It certainly does rock!
How much does it rock?
It rocks so much when you realize Smoke on the water is the least rockin of all the tracks on the album.
Maybe I’m a Leo! Pictures of Home!
Their best album, imho. And I love 'em all!
@@EpicMogi When it rocks it ROCKS and when it rolls it ROLLS!
"Radar Love" - Golden Earring ---> To be played loudly while driving fast...
And then after that, watch their *1000 Drummers* version (which has since been surpassed by a 2000 drummer performance). Might sound like a bit of a gimmick, but the song is so great, it's just more great music. ua-cam.com/video/i6UbfJYJW8c/v-deo.html
(If I had ten more votes I'd give them all to RADAR LOVE. This one is a great candidate for a reaction video. The song was huge in its day. And it never dies, come to think of it.) Come on shipmates! You know you've got to upvote Robert's suggestion here. It's the right thing to do; it's the obvious choice; it's ...
Definitely!!
I love their drummer.
Radar Love is a great song, but my personal favorite Golden Earring song is, "Twilight Zone\When the Bullet Hits the Bone", even though I can't understand most of the words he's singing. Lol.
@@davethebarber62920 yes great song!!
50 years later and I still love it! I need it! I feel it!
"Highway Star" was 45 years old when you reviewed it! I was 17 years old in 1972. Songs 45 years before THAT were from 1927. Songs that year were.....NOT like this. Glad the music of my generation holds up so well. IMHO I was blessed to grow up with the greatest rock music.
52 thumbs down? Ha ha. Gotta be Taylor Swift fans wondering what the hell is this? Its music petals, its REAL music kiddies.
I remember being 14 years old stoned outta my mind as usual blazing around with my friends at high speeds in muscle cars with this blaring forth. Damn. The Seventies.
Me too dude.
V8 revvin' and the smell of burnin' rubber...ahhh the good ol' daze!!
'78, my mate's brother's Sandman panel van (if she's rockin'.....), nearly dying when he missed on oncoming truck by inches, this blazing away.
@@70snostalgia Always was a Valiant man myself, but Holden did make a nice shaggin' wagon!
We were so lucky to grow up then. Fast cars, the best music and mellow pot:-)
Gillens vocal intro makes the hair on my neck stand on end I love this song.
Recorded in 1971 and released in 1972. Forty Eight years ago and this album still Rocks!
I'd say one of the top ten ever.
Their most played song would be Smoke on the Water. Other popular ones are Hush, Space Truckin and My Woman From Tokyo.
Hush is great and super catchy but the boys should know that it's DP1 not DP2.
Fantastic choices all!
Child in Time is a must with Ian's scream
@@mouniraboufadel7385 I believe they already did Child in Time
All great songs!!
The keyboardist was Jon Lord. He was classically trained and you can hear it in his playing, which gave them another dimension to their music too. Nice one.
Ian Gillan is 75 and can still hit some of these notes on occasion. Saw Deep Purple 2 years ago and he was amazing. First time I ever saw him was Born Again Tour for Sabbath '84 with a blown out voice and he still killed it,
This song pins the coolness gauge at 10 and keeps it there the entire time. Blows me away every time.
Speed king
Hush - Deep Purple (1968). First album... Hooked me. ;)
First Deep Purple track and album I ever heard back in 1972 and I still listen to them to this day. Great studio band and even better live.
The battle rages on from their 1993 studio same-named album. The great heavy riff from Blackmore and quality drumming .
OMG...You guys finally did one of my ALL TIME favorite songs!! Ever since I starting watching your channel I've been hoping for a reaction to this awesome song! Great review as always, guys. I just thought it was especially cool that Alex had never heard it before. The expressions on both of your faces was priceless but thats what its all about when it comes to reaction videos. Now that I am technically a "senior citizen" I feel very fortunate to have had all this great music to listen to when I was young. At the time, we just took it all for granted. Its so refreshing to see that the younger generation is finally "discovering" these awesome tunes. Watching you guys enjoying it has me re - visiting so much of the late 60's/early 70's stuff and I'm enjoying it as much now as when it was new. You guys are great. Rock on!!
Lodestone3 glad you enjoyed it, we love having such a great community of people we can share this with glad to have you 🙌🏻
@Lodestone3 ^^^ What he said! Cheers man glad you’re diggin’ it! 🔥🤟🏻
60 yrs old and never heart this thx.
Space Truckin
They had Guinness record for loudest Rock band ! I saw them at Pirates World in Dania Florida when I was 10 with my sister who just got her drivers license. Good Lord...those were the days!
Was a raging hormone teen when Machine Head came out back in the day. Deep Purple scorched the stage when they toured this album, so, glad you enjoyed this tune and you may enjoy Space Truckin too.
Dude...you gotta do "Space Truckin" by Deep Purple. Rockin tune
Another YES!
Early Deep Purple "Hush", "Speed King", "Bloodsucker", "Child In Time", "Fireball", "Strange Kind of Woman", "Lazy" (slow starting blues rocker, then turns up the heat). Other than Hush, this is considered one of the best lineups. I saw them on 5 occasions and they rocked.
I must have heard this song well over a thousand times since i rushed out as a 17yr old in '72 to buy Machine Head.
Never get fed up with it.
Its a perfect rock song and Machine Head is a perfect rock album absolutely no doubt.
I feel you - this album is great, the first one I ever bought as a kid, and I still love it! “Made in Japan was my second album - also timeless. This lineup of Deep Purple kicks ass in every direction.
My feelings exactly.
Another classic Rock hit by a great British Band from the 60s/70s. Great vocals, and all are excellent musicians.
"LAZY" by Deep Purple is the song that introduced me to the blues by melding killer blues with face-melting guitars and one of the best uses of Hammond organ in rock history!
I love "LAZY" so much that my band still covers this song :)
Lazy is one my favorites too. Amazing song!
The live version from the Made in Japan album is so good you won't want to hear the studio again.
This song was written on their tour bus on their way to the next gig. It was written in 10 minutes and they gave it a go that evening. Awesome
Deep Purple is amazing. One of a handful of bands at the time who paved the way from hard rock to metal
Ya'll are great. Man on the Silver Mountain by Rainbow is something I think you would enjoy.
Ooo I love the sound of that
@@alexfromandyandalex8032 Ronnie James Dio sings on it and it BANGS!!!
Live! Or both. Studio is great but Ronnie live is always better. And same with Richie.
Yes
@@mustangdebbie56 I agree Ronnie live is always a treat, but back then they would always blow through MotSM at "show speed" for some reason; I guess it wasn't Ritchie's favorite thing to play? That being said, there are some great versions from the Live in Cologne and Live in Koln releases... especially all the improv blues stuff they throw around.
One of my favorite albums of all time! This is no lie ...I actually wore the grooves off the album and had to buy another! Pure Rock and Roll!!!!
Highway Star is a ride into the stratosphere. Deep Purple early on is very well through to be a heavy contributor to the heavy metal genre.
Soooo ... Great story about this song. It was actually born - ON. A. HIGHWAY. The band was on the tour bus headed to Portsmouth (UK) in 1971. They had a reporter in tow who asked them how they wrote songs. Ritchie, grabbed his guitar & started hitting a 'G' chord over & over. Ian Gillan started ad-libbing vocals. They kept working on the song actually premiering it at the show later that night ! It opened most of their live shows thereafter ... The whole album is solid, a stoned headphones classic for this 14 yr old back in the day ... Love you guys !
Ahhhh...what memories! I used to blast this in my mom's basement almost 38yrs ago! In my opinion, the absolute BEST DRIVING SONG ever made! Meant for an empty open highway! Next try woman from tokyo, space truckin', LIVE smoke on the water( Made in Japan),Black Night to start with. This song shows why DP must be spoken in the same sentence as ZEP and SABBATH as far as influencing metal. Nice job guys! 🔥
No hype needed, the music stood on its own.
I saw Deep Purple at least 5 times in the 70's, I do believe every show was at the Spectrum in Philly...I am 62 now and I drive a limo...i recently picked up the band at Philly airport and drove them to the Ritz Carlton in downtown Philly...they are still rocking and I still love them...
Highway Star on the Made in Japan album is the ultimate version of this song! As a matter of fact the whole album is AWESOME!
Deep Purple - My Woman from Tokyo! By far, my favorite of theirs!
Perfect road song
You did it again guys! This is by far my favorite Deep Purple song . . . and yes, I would turn it UP while driving down the road!!! "Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group from their 1972 album They Only Come Out at Night . . . is another great driving song! And, for your enjoyment, the lyrics of "Highway Star":
Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Ooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power
Big fat tires and everything
I love it and I need it, I bleed it
Yeah, it's a wild hurricane
Alright, hold tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my girl
I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Ooh she's a killing machine
She got everything
Like a moving mouth
Body control and everything
I love her, I need her, I seed her
Yeah, she turns me on
Alright, hold on tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my head
I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head
Now that I'm on the road again
Ooh I'm in Heaven again
I got everything
Like a moving ground,
An open road and everything
I love it and I need it, I seed it
Eight cylinders all mine
Alright, hold on tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Ooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power
Big fat tires and everything
I love it and I need it, I bleed it
Yeah, it's a wild hurricane
Alright, hold on tight
I'm a highway star
I'm a highway star
I'm a highway star
Lazy, Pictures from Home and Space Trucking are also incredible on that album.
The Made In Japan version of this track is off the charts gnarly. Ritchie's guitar playing is staggering.
The "Made In Japan" tour was a great concert! Lot's of flying hair as everyone rocked out the auditorium, whooshhh!!!!!
Deep Purple is Legendary. But. You should try some Richie Blackmore's RAINBOW with Dio singing. The album Long Live Rock And Roll. The song Kill The King
Yeees!! Kill the king
I wore out my Rainbow cassett 2xs!
@@andreo.7633 kill the king maybe best song on album
Rainbow In The Dark !
All Rainbow songs are great!
When this came out it caught the attention of every rock guitarist. Ritchie broke into new territory with this solo and I think he said it's the only solo he ever sat down and worked it all out, as he usually improvises his solos.
When "Highway Star" was released, my band and I listened to it, and our mind's were blown. It seemed like the start of a new kind of rock. I miss all the hard core organ sounds from back then. Those tones were badass!
My personal fav from Machine Head is - Lazy.
Absolutely.
That's mine, love that song!
My new favorite too
This song (Lazy) stood out for me on Machine Head when
I made the purchase new, on vinyl (in 1973). . . . for a
couple 2-3 years it was my all-time favourite tune
Burn, Space Truckin, Black Night and Stormbringer are some other great ones.
Smoke on the water?
@@matthewdrake4385 I can't imagine they don't know that one. But if they don't, it should be at the top of their Deep Purple list.
Burn is my fav DP album, hands down. Mistreated is just amazing.
Unfortunately it seems that no one realises Deep Purple are still going and have 6 or so amazing albums since 1994 (since the new guitarist joined the band). Many incredible songs since 94. Have a listen 🤟🤟🤟
Hey guys. A sideline on Deep Purple. They were considered the loudest rock band in concert. The she had was recorded at 72 released in 73 it was concerned with the best albums they ever caught. You got to check out either space Truckin or Smoke on the Water. The both of us here's the lineup of the band.
Ritchie Blackmore guitars, Ina Gillian vocals, harmonica, Roger Gloves , bass. Jon Lord, keyboard. Ina Paine drums. And Ritchie Blackmore was the one that formed the band in the very beginning.
Great reaction guys. I've never seen Alex move this much😁. I love the Deep Purple song "When a Blind Man Cries" . It's totally different from other Purple songs. Also the song "Lazy" 1999 Live in Melbourne. Here you can see John Lord shining bright as ever 🔥🔥.
Great reaction, guys! Don't forget, Alex and Andy - Deep Purple Live - California Jam 1974 - "Mistreated." Best live song Deep Purple ever performed.

Hi guys, I'm 58 years old and at 11 I heard this Machine Head and it was always my favorite band. Today my children enjoy my vinyl and my musical tastes. Thank you for appreciating this music, greetings from Montevideo Uruguay
My favourite band ever. Can’t go wrong with Deep Purple
There you are Highway Star. The drums are so steady here. Maybe the live version from Made in Japan tops it. If possible is. One of the best tunes ever composed, perfectly performed
The Made In Japan version is a little faster, and it's nearly mistake-free. I do like it even better, myself. But I'll gladly listen along to the studio version and no regrets!!
the entire song was written in about 15 minutes on the tour bus between shows and it must have been an amazing 15 minutes
Ritchie is up there as one of the all time greatest guitarists. Ritchie said they were on the tour bus going to their next gig, and he kept playing the guitar riff over & over. Ian was looking out the bus window & started coming up with the lyrics. By the time they got to the gig they had this song written & practiced on stage & performed it that night!! 5 super talented dudes! One of my favorites is Perfect Strangers. Zeppelin, Black Sabbath & Deep Purple....set the bar for rock music!
Guys, I was second row center for the show last week in DC. It was fucking awesome. For a bunch of guys as old as my dad, they brought the house down.
Oh Man, Every time I hear this song, I am instantly taken back to a time, when I had a 1970 Roadrunner, 440 Magnum, pistol grip 4 Speed, the works! My friends & I would always be pushing that car to it's max, all while partying. This particular night we partied extra hard. My friend had hollowed out a freakin'"Crocket" mallot & made a pipe out of it! At one point it was so smokey in that car that from the front seat, you could not see if there was anyone even in the back seat?! Well, it was this night, that this song was playing and charged us all up! We got her up to 145 mph and still had some peddle to go when out of nowhere it started to rain. Just as I began to let off the accelerator, I hit those little reflectors that are used to divide the lanes. As soon as I hit those things, the car went completely sideways... at 145 mph! So, I figured "This was It," ya know. You don't come back from things like this. Suddenly and without any known reason that I could come up with, the car suddenly just snapped right back into place and we were able to slow down & straighten our shit out! But this was so weird that no one even spoke until we made it back into town! Whew! Everyone in my car were shaking like a leaf!
So, do I really consider these "The Good Old Days?" I wonder.
Was about time Alex got to hear this track!!
What is the NEXT Deep Purple song we should check out?! Comment below and upvote the ones you second! Song picks are generally COMMUNITY driven! Cheers friends! 😁🔥🤟🏻

The Deep Purple leader was and has always been Jon Lord. Check out the video where he discusses how his sound came to be. Richie Blackmore never wanted to play rhythm guitar so the basis of their songs were the Hammond organ souped up by Jon (R.I.P)...the best! Also need to listen to Pictures of Home on the same album...
We called our camper van Highway Star. It really is the perfect late night driving tune.
Loved playing this on guitar hero! So. ****ing awesome
Forever Young
You have to listen to the live version from “Made in Japan” album where Ritchie Blackmore goes ballistic.
Made in japan has to be the best live album ever made and highway star played faster with R B absolutely fantastic what a guitarist.
Someone say “Maiden Japan”?????
What stands out for me in this song is John Lords keyboard playing, matching note for note Blackmores guitar playing. AMAZING!
Great review! I saw Deep Purple in 1972 at the Jacksonville Coliseum. We had no idea what to expect. Ian Gillan states that they are going to play a new album that was to be released shortly: Machine Head. He was speaking to the audience in a gentle fashion and I thought this was going to be a quiet evening. It was open seating. I was on the floor (no seating) and I was about 30 feet from a set of column speakers to the right of the stage. First song: Highway Star. It looked like the speakers were leaving the boxes. I tried to move away. Everyone pushed forward. Unbelievably unreal!!! I'll never forget this concert! My hearing still has not recovered!
Love reaction videos! Imagine what your reaction would be if you were in Jr. High a few years from getting your drivers license listening to this song...and then fast forward to when you got it. We buried the needle in muscle cars listening again to this song. For those of you that are still alive..cheers! The music a generation before us was nothing like this. We LOVED this shit.
Easily MY favorite Deep Purple song. Great reaction and rating. 10 for me, too.
Clayton Cox I think it’s amazing but I wanna hear more deep purple to compare
@@alexfromandyandalex8032 Ok. Smoke on the water. Their most iconic song. Great opening guitar riff.
Agree. Smoke on the Water is most iconic. Love the true story! I will say 'Hush' is the one that drew me in though. :)
Really amazing thing about this song is, for Deep Purple, this is like falling off a log. They just mic'd up the amps and drums and cut the tracks. Then Ian did his thing and there you go.
Good to see young people appreciate Deep Purple.
You guys should check out Gillian singing on the one album he did with Sabbath Born Again. I think it is an underrated album that has a different vibe. Very heavy with some thrash thrown in for good measure. I believe after this album he went back to Deep Purple and made Perfect Strangers. Some songs you may like are Trashed, Disturbing the Priest , Digital Bitch or Zero the Hero.
OMG, I can’t believe you did this. First of all it’s nice and long. Second, what you are doing with your head phones and rockin out is the exact same thing I did when I first bought this album and heard this with my headphones. You made me really smile big today. I love it. You guys are great.
This version of Deep Purple (often calledc Mark 2) Ian Gillan on those killer vocals, Richie Blackmore on guitar, Roger Glover on the bass, Ian Paice on drums and the master of the Hammond Organ John Lord makes without a doubt one of the all time PHENOMANAL BANDS! If you are listening to this song while you are driving you have to be aware because if Smokey sees you a ticket is in your future a the speed you will be going!
On Deep Purple's tour bus, on the way to a gig in the UK, a reporter asked them how they wrote songs. Ritchie Blackmore then picked up an acoustic, started plucking a repetitive G note and Ian Gillan started improvising lyrics. Later that day the band fleshed the song out and "Highway Star" was played on stage for the first time that same night. All that us mere mortals can do is shake our heads in wonder.
Machine Head is one of those studio albums that could easily be a greatest hits; it's that good. You can't go wrong with any track, but my favourite is Lazy. It's a rock/blues jam session that takes you on a journey and never gets old. Check it out guys.
My thoughts EXACTLY!
Hell Yeah, haven't heard this in ages, good choice, love the reaction.
the recording of this LP is a story of stories...more insane vocals like that of Brad Delp from Boston...Ian was a beast...the drum fills on this LP alone is worth the price of admission.
This is the first album I ever bought in the 70s! Played it to death!!
My Woman from Tokyo and Hush are the two I'd listen to other then the ones you've already mentioned.
Excellent!
Good,but to overplayed
Flight of the Rat - Deep Purple
Absolute classic!
Unfairly underrated song
1972 Tampa, saw them with the Eagles!!! Both bands were AMAZING!!
What's maybe the most amazing fun fact about this song is that the band quickly composed it when asked by a journalist (who was riding along in the tour bus, if my memory doesn't fail me) about their composing process. They later that day polished it up and performed it in front of a live audience the very same evening.
You guys are making me fall in love with all these great old songs all over again :-)
You should do this same masterpiece "Highway Star" from the best live album of all times. Made In Japan. Actually you can do whatever song from that live album. Pure magic guys. Thanks, always a pleasure.
