CGP Grey has a couple of great videos on the name Tiffany’s history
Oh that's why it was familiar, thanks!
I was just going to comment, I guess the people at Mental Floss don't watch CGP Grey
One video and a mental breakdown*
I was just thinking about that video earlier this week and how I should watch it again
*impersonates Ted the bellhop from Four Rooms (aka Theodore the Thumper😉):
Ohhhhh reeaaally?
Cgp grey made a whole two Videos on the history of tiffany... worth a watch
Love the Oreo tangent. Lol
Although the Oreo cookie is not the original either! It just had the better marketing
I could go for some Hydrox right now.
@@tenzhitihsien888 Hard to find in stores, But Wal*Mart has them online.
I've had Hydrox, and I'll stick with Oreo.
Hydrox was the original chocolate sandwich cookie brand.
Oreo is a catchier name.
Erin's bangs game is 🔥
5:36 Had no idea those cymbals have been around so long, used to play them on the trap set for pep band!
My favourite: The fax machine existed before the telephone. 1843 vs 1876.
Yep!! And the telegraph was DIGITAL and the telephone was analog. Also, rotary telephone dials were digital push button "Touch Tone" dials are analog!
Came expecting the fax machine and got milk washed fish guts instead. Thanks, Erin!
IKEA's mjölk magic reusable condom, the apex amenity of Scandinavian archaeology. 😌
The name joke for a cymbal maker. I had to pause the video I almost died laughing.
Poor Hydrox getting beat by Oreos
Further proof it's always best to be second to market
I like Oreos by Hydox IS the Superior cookie of the two. I buy them online.
The Allusionist's episode "The Tiffany Problem also goes into this.
I was expecting to hear the usual "Cleopatra was born closer to men walking on the moon than she was to the building of the Great Pyramids!" Thank you for having some new and different stuff!
A+ video!
Fantastic topic and research!
Thank you, I always learn something new watching these vids😊
The cymbal company Sabian in New Brunswick Canada is also owned by a branch of the Zildjian family.
This has to be symbolic somehow.

I wonder if “the snakes and scorpions” was a metaphor for painful burning in the nether regions.
Yeah, I hear names like "Tiffany" and "Cynthia" and immediately think "1980s".
Good job, Erin.
Now go to the TV Tropes page Older Than They Think, and I'll see you in a month!
Totally off topic, but how about a video on the history of condensed milk? What the heck is it, and what's its origin?
During the work week, I journey over to my daughter's house to let her elderly dogs out for a mid-day relief. I pass by a historical marker in Torrington Connecticut denoting the "World's first condensed milk factory." So naturally, that got me wondering.... It's food history, so dust off Dodd's milk-themed wardrobe and get us learnin'!
Also, what's the diff, if any, between condensed and evaporated?
Everyone knows you hold oreos under milk like you hold a person's head under water, till the bubbles stop.
No mention of Hydrox?
juicy fruit mystery i sloved..... jack fruit
Also, the original sandwich cookie was Hydrox. Oreo was the rip-off.
I know a Zildjian family member!
And can pronounce their last name!
Oreos are older than Oreos -- Hydrox came first.
thanks Tiffany 😸
Juicy Fruit tastes kinda how bananas used to, before the old clone died out.
I had no idea that cymbal brand was so old.
Greeks may have been the first to use a goat bladder as a condom, but it was the British that first removed it from the goat before using it as such.
Oreos were not the original chocolate sandwich cookie, they were a knock-off of the Hydrox cookie.
Tiffany, I think we’re alone now. There doesn’t seem to be anyone around.
As a drummer I’m flattered by the inclusion of the cymbalsmith tradition. I offer just the slightest correction: The most common pronunciation of Zildjian is ‘ZIL-jin’ not ‘ZIL-jee-un’
Topp Tiff.
Hoping for the Internet. Been around since the 60's
Stuff You Missed in History did a whole episode on Priestly.
Oreo are kinda older than 1912, as they are the knockoff of the original cookie, the great Hydrox, superior in all ways.
the sound is wayy too low
❤💯👍
I have a National Geographic that has 3D glasses of the Moon!
I know at least a dozen tiffanys and they all happen to be asian. Why is this? Coincidence?
With Sci-show's release today, I wonder if King Mino's wife had a semen allergy. if the semen poisoned or stung her.
Epiphany Tiffany. Tiphany?
I was born in 1969. We had no Tiffany at my school. I grew up in rural Ohio, I think it just wasn't a popular name in this area because quite frankly I can only think of one person I've known named Tiffany. I think its more of an East coast or California name if you ask me.
The name Mary is also older than people think. It (and the name Moses) dates back to ancient Egypt, over 1000 years older than Judaism, who baby books claim is the origin. In ancient Egypt it means "beloved", in Hebrew it means "bitter". Wierd eh?
Hydrox came before Oreo
It still boggles my mind that synchronized swimming became an Olympic sport before Tae Kwon Do. Ugh.
Juicy Fruit flavor is bananaish.

I enjoyed the video, but audio mix seemed a bit off on this one, sound effects were deafening compared to your voice.
My wifes a 72 year old Tiffany but its her maiden name
Really, those Greeks had some amazing ideas on how to screw up the idea of human anatomy. Snakes and scorpions in semen? HOW would that even.. No. No I don't want to know.. Never mind...
Number 9:
Your mother!
Juicyfruit is jackfruit flavored, no mystery there.
actually it isn't that's just a fan based myth. ggogle it.
To copy CGP Gray
Who the hell is balancing the audio for Mental Floss vids? The sound effects are significantly louder than the voice over, the actual important audio.
