As Twisted is saying it wants a bit more wood but it covers the main thing keeping the wind off the water in the winter I only cover with 10mm polycarb sheets they do keep a bit of heat in and any winter sun warms the water under the sheet. with luck it will be a warm winter
thanks for your comment martyn i was going to use polycarbonate sheets but they aint cheap i think it will be ok myself but with the weather being so unpredictable who knows?it will be sorted by the time the cold dark days arrive cheers mate 👍👍
Mate the plastic is fine the price of polycarbonate is way up covid did that all the pubs building stuff so people can eat outside ponding is a money thing and we do the best we can with the money we have to put into it 👍👍👍
I'm new to all this martyn as you will probably know, I'm just adding little bits to the puzzle when i can and try to follow the more experienced koi keepers like yourself, and like vince from twisted koi said its an ever evolving hobby i just have to keep watching the videos and pick up what i can, have a nice sunday buddy 👍👍
In previous years I used thick polythene to keep the heat in but used an aluminium ladder to keep the central area raised to allow rain to run off & not collect causing a bulge. Now I use polycarbonate sheeting
@@martynskoipondandgarden4581 Keep a look out in internet sites like freecycle or Gumtree as recently I have seen a few people upgrading their conservatory roof to a solid roof & getting rid of the polycarbonate panels off the roof.
A good idea martyn , but as said could so with a bit more support if we get snow or very heavy rain , I use Polycarbonate sheeting in a frame , can be expensive from places like B & Q but if you go on line there are some suppliers that are very reasonable ....
Great idea but i think you need to reinforce the frame work mate 👍🏻 like 💯% need some cross bars to stop the sheeting sinking with heavy snow or rain. That being said if you could make it slightly slop off the pond it would help too 👍🏻 😊🙏🏻😊
i do say that in the video that i would be adding strength to the frame so hopefully there shouldn't be an issue with heavy rain or snow as the pergola will have a top on im also taking a couple of inches off the back pergola posts to make it slope backwards 👍👍😉
@@keithbolger6760 how's it creating puddles the panels are perforated with small holes it's been raining here for the last 4 days there is no excess water
Looking smart
thanks martyn 👍👍

Don’t you need some space to let some air escape, I know that will keep it warmer there but here in Canada, it will get to minus 20
there are places where air can escape just not noticeable buddy👍👍
Ok

Yeah it's all down to cost mate polycarbonate don't come cheap so that's why I used polythene all the best Martyn 👍

That's only a vista reen membrane.
You needed DPM thick membrane.
Where you have stapled the wind with whip it up
Thanks for your comment buddy I was going to put battan over the top of the stapled sides but not got round to doing it yet 👍
