- Welcome to our new series: 5 Minutes With - where we spend 5 minutes exploring a pice of gear. No talking.
By using 8-bit converters, digital processing and analog resonant filters, BISCUIT opens up a wide range of sounds from harsh distortion, digital and aliasing artefacts to warm and fat 8-bit sounds.
Sadly Biscuit is discontinued, but we've managed to snaffle an 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟱𝟬% 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘂𝗯𝗲 on the official plug-in version of Biscuit -

Biscuit is actually a word play.
Oto is a french company, so that’s why it can hardly be understandable.
It comes from "8 bits".. "bits 8"
8 being pronounced "weet" in french.
now you have it ! "bits weet"... biscuit !
but i liked the other definition over here... cause it is crunchy ;)
That is some of the most pleasing bit-crushing I've heard from a device.
Wish OTO still made these.
Inverting individual bits seems like a very clever idea. 👍
Really like this segment idea. Would love to see more
I bought one of these towards the tail end of their production. Serial number 1920 out of about 2000. It has been the ONLY constant in my studio for years and I will never part with it. There is simply nothing that can impart the same character. I’ve found that it’s not that great on synths, but where it excels is on a nice analog drum machine. Like an analog rytm, Vermona or a similar unit. Turns a simple beat into something aggressive and completely unrecognizable. It is filth at its best. Perfect for industrial or can be used in a more subtle way to add low end and crunch. I don’t use the delay, pitch shifter or any of that. Just the core functions that this thing was made to do. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t make much money on these units because they were expensive to make, and the parts are no longer available in their supply chain. They at least left the world with 2000 killer units though.
Had it for a couple of years, but could never fall in love with it. Has its purpose for sure, but I always found it hard to fit in and it was extremely expensive. Used prices go up way higher than those quoted in this video. Eventually sold it last year. Glad I did. I did get (and love) OTO's reverb Bam.
I agree. It has a special sound to it and some cool tricks on board but i don't miss it.
I don't think a week has gone by in years that I haven't used the biscuit. I adore it.
The sound at 4:20 is awesome.
Wow! I like this a lot. first time I've seen one of these. Very nice.
Nice new format . More of this please.
The beat that starts at :24 is really fun!
nice one, I have the UAD plug in version, but rarely use it. I must do a deep dive into this
Its #1 on my hardware list. Sadly they dont make them anymore:(
what are units you feeding into this during the video?
nice concept Nick.
big plus for the new series
nice idea for a video series - the text boxes near the end are getting covered up by other video suggestions in my browser though!
Thanks. Will fix that
Ooh! 4.21 Get in! Lovely :D
Amazing box
It's Kraftwerk in a box,lol. 0:35
Are pink wafers biscuits? Discuss
link not working
the beat at 0:55 is superb
Sounds a bit like a Fever Ray track.
Biscuit because its crunchy?
Hadn't thought of that, you may be right..
@@sonicstate was about to say the same thing! Thought it was pretty obvious. Also bitcrush, bits crumbs etc...its a very appropriate name!
Whoa! Wait... are they selling these again?!
my4trackmachine no, due to some component shortaga.
I love my OTO Biscuit... But I also must say that the UAD-2 Plugin is very good - I have both and I think the Plugin is 99% sounding as the hardware version. What do you think ? And I love Sonicstate... And you are guilty that I bought the OP-1 ;-) Keep up the good work !
the plugin is spot on, I wish it also had the synth mode features but it's amazing
Cool, shame they so expensive though...
yes, great idea can we propose things here?
No harm in it but cant guarantee we'll be able to do it - we'll try!
Great, the code doesn't work :(
Seriously? I'll let them know.
pricey
The Biscuit has always seemed cool to me but wayyyyy too expensive.
yoy
You need to limit your bass before posting
So yeah the discount is for a plug-in. No thanks...
Sorry we assumed people would know its discontinued - we've changed the title
