I LOVED Ray Parker! When he was on American Bandstand in the 80's, he picked me (a regular dancer at the time) to go up on stage and dance with him while he sang. What memories! I hope to post that clip soon. I still love you Ray!!!
On this day in 1982 {March 14th} "The Other Woman" by Ray Parker, Jr. entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #77; and twelve weeks later June 6th, 1982 it peaked #4 {for 2 weeks} and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100... Before peaking at #4 it had spent three weeks at #5 on the Top 100... And on August 30th, 1982 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Australian Kent Music Report chart; and #2 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... Between 1982 and 1990, as a solo artist, he had ten Top 100 records; two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Ghostbusters" for three weeks in August 5th, 1984... Prior to going solo he was a member of Raydio, and from 1978 to 1981 the group had five Top 100 records, with three of them making the Top 10... Ray Erskine Parker, Jr. will celebrate his 61st birthday in less than two months on May 1st {2015}...
Thank you for posting this song! I remember it from when I was in 6th grade. My mom didn't like me listening to it, but I thought it was the epitome of coolness!
Love this song! So glad I found it on here.. he's sexy with his voice, guitar and to me he resembles a little "Sweetness" Walter Payton. Classic song!!
What ever happened to Ray Parker, Jr? He was very talented, attractive, great radio-friendly voice, He seemed to be perfect for more fame than he enjoyed..
admittedly I used to think it was Eddie Money who sang this song when I've first heard of it, great song and I wish this song would get as much airplay on the radio as "Ghostbusters"
I have never seen this version of the video...in Australia they only showed the original horror one. This song was a number one hit for about 5 weeks in Australia, how high did this song go in the states? Top 10? Top 5?
I did not know until I saw on Unsung that one of the women was Appalonia Kotero of Purple Rain. When the scandal of Gen Petraeus,Paula Bradwell and Jill Kelly happened that song flashed in my head.
@TheGreatMozeek BET played Hip-Hop videos as early as 1982. They did play Grand Master Flash's "The Message" in 82" when MTV refused to look at it. MTV first played Hip-hop videos in 1984 (Blonde and Malcolm McLauren do not count). Run DMC was their first artists and during that year, I believe they were the only Hip-Hop artists to get play on MTV (MTV did'nt play Whodini, Afrika Bammbaataa, Kurtis Blow, and Fat Boys).
"now i hate to have to cheat, but it feels better when i sneak..." i betcha millions of dudes & dudettes can relate, celebrate & participate in the analogy
Interesting. A lot of people don't realize that RPJ had a VERY lengthy career as a session guitarist before he even started recording on his own. You can hear him on recordings by Stevie, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Rufus, etc. As far as Raydio goes, even then RPJ was playing virtually all of the instruments. The Raydio singers, though, helped him tremendously. I guess that's the element that was missing once abandoned Raydio.
Apollonia (Patrica Kotero) appears in this video. Shouldn't be hard to figure out who she is. This proves that Ray Parker jr. not only makes great music and super hits like, "the other woman", but picks top level women to appear in his video. Dam Apollonia is FINE!......................I'mmmmmmmmm in love with the other woman (Apollonia)
@kornelsz probably the ghostbusters song killed his career. I can't believe when i was a child i saw him in stevie wonder's band playing on sesame street! great funk player
@gustavogomezdiaz Man I am glad you said something because I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I looked at this video. I have never looked at this video fully until now. Damn! She sure was sexy back then. You said she looks good today. I would sure like to see her.
Apollonia was shootin' love in his direction!
I LOVED Ray Parker! When he was on American Bandstand in the 80's, he picked me (a regular dancer at the time) to go up on stage and dance with him while he sang. What memories! I hope to post that clip soon. I still love you Ray!!!
Love the pre-Purple Rain Apollonia in this clip
Awesome voice, cheezy visuals, great innovative and rich jazzy/funky beat. Bizarre lyrics, but at least it's about love. :)
Damn, that was Appolonia!
Ray's best song, thanks!
brings back good memories.
I had a crush on him when I was a teen. He's such a. beautiful black man .
This song, "Dead Giveaway" by Shalamar and "Misled" by Kool & the Gang were some of the rocking-est, non-Prince R&B of the 80's. Jam on it!
You mean for black folks or black Rock? How about Miguel Jackson?
You summed-it all up 100%. I couldn't agree with you more!

What he did when he said he slipped and fell in love has really got me rolling. Love this whole song. Saw him live
Great song. The 80's spacey video was tough to watch. I remember listening to this great song over and over.
This is CLASSIC because this song took me back to my early teens.
groover from the 80s
I saw a Soul Train rerun not 2 long ago, where Ray performed this song, that dude was just 2 cool back then.
OMG! I used to have the biggest crush on Ray Parker Jr! This song still sounds good, just remove the horns (very 80's). love it! Danke!!!

I love this song!!!
another great song by raydio!!!!
This song is as cheesey as it gets
Play with that guitar all night Ray!.... We will play with it together!
If Don Draper makes it to the 80s not dying of STDs, this will be his theme tune.
Great song!
Ray... you are so fine!!!
MUCH better than that other guy's song about "JESSIES GIRL"
MAN, could that guy play a guitar!!
Great song, more rock than R&B.
Kind of unusual for a black artist back then.
he's doing this on Soul Train tonite !!
great clip thanx for posting.
funny , every R n B dance record back then had a guitar solo in it..
One of the best songs of the 80's. Thanks for the upload. Brilliant stuff this :)

Lighten Up Toots, It's A Party!
Очень классный чувак!!! Люблю его!!!
admittedly I used to think it was Eddie Money who sang this song when I've first heard of it, great song and I wish this song would get as much airplay on the radio as "Ghostbusters"
Ooooh that's a Cool Riff at 2:57.
mitica.
how cool is this?
I can't believe that Appollonia from Purple Rain was in this video. Damn, she fine!!!!
Apollonia 😍🥵
1982, in that awkward post-disco, pre-new wave period.
It is to low. I remember seeing Ray at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton Va back in the early 80's along with Zapp, Midnight Star and Rick James.
Ray's a freakin' hottie!!!!!! Nuff said
very cute
Ray Parker Jr... the original “Ladies Man”
I have never seen this version of the video...in Australia they only showed the original horror one.
This song was a number one hit for about 5 weeks in Australia, how high did this song go in the states?
Top 10? Top 5?
Why is the hit "LET ME GO" van Ray Parker Jr nowhere to be found on UA-cam??l
Thanx CanadinLiz01 for the vote of confidence. It is true not all of us cheat.
Love this! Tell me Lenny didn't take some lessons from Ray.
Apollonia!!!! There is most definetely a God.
I did not know until I saw on Unsung that one of the women was Appalonia Kotero of Purple Rain. When the scandal of Gen Petraeus,Paula Bradwell and Jill Kelly happened that song flashed in my head.

Anyone have the 12 inch of this song who can post it. My copy grew legs and walked away years ago...

The Album Cover Listed Ray as the ONLY MUCISION on ALL Instruments
I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS VIDEO....
fuck (s)hit-hop (c)rap
THIS is the REAL black music !!!!
Ray Parker had the sexiest voice
Sorry guys this song came out in 1982...I nnever forget..
'82 actually. The girl dancing is APOLLONIA of Purple Rain and Apollonia 6 fame.
Apollonia (Patrica Kotero) appears in this video. Shouldn't be hard to figure out who she is. This proves that Ray Parker jr. not only makes great music and super hits like, "the other woman", but picks top level women to appear in his video. So RPJ had two videos of this song? I kept looking for Apollonia in the other vid.
Not the best stage presence I've ever seen, but definitely a classic song.
Parker wrote this song after listening to Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl."
Oh Ray, you are so good, when you are so bad! ;D
@kornelsz probably the ghostbusters song killed his career. I can't believe when i was a child i saw him in stevie wonder's band playing on sesame street! great funk player
He looks like one of Randall Cunningham, one of the few Black QBs in the NFL back in the late 80s and early 90s
Apollonia should of been in the original video for this song with the zombies the one MTV wouldn't play
@trinaatl Mine too, when I was a kid!
I loved when Apollonia tried to purify herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka......or what she thought was Lake Minnetonka.
the solo reminds me of a sly song
@steveinmidtown
I know. She reminds me of one of those women you'd see painted on the side of a van from the 70's or 80's.
Hey Pastor Rick, who do you think you are Judge Judy??
@gustavogomezdiaz Man I am glad you said something because I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I looked at this video. I have never looked at this video fully until now. Damn! She sure was sexy back then. You said she looks good today. I would sure like to see her.
Love this song...to low though!
AWSOME tune... whatever happened to Ray ? He could have made more like this one...and make it pretty big !
She outrageously hot in this video.
Prince stole that chick!Dayum, well done little purple dude
Apollonia and Prince never dated . They were just good friends .
@dcride36 I agree with you about Ray Parker making great music...but Apollonia as a top level woman, we have to differ on that one..lol
