I go to Atlanta for Passion every year. We have been in the benz a few times. I love visiting. Living in Indianapolis, I always compare each stadium to Lucas oil.
You have obviously never seen it in person nor do you actually know much about the stadium. The top is not round, it's oval shaped and the petals that open are three different sizes and they said they had to fine tune it after it was built to prevent leaking. Especially in the middle. All of that was part of the construction process. The initial renderings had to be tweaked to make it work as in all large construction projects. Making the entire roof open would not have worked because it's too heavy and the halo screen had to be attached to the solid part of the roof. Each of the eight opening sections weighs several tons so a lot of engineering had to go into it. There's a tour of the stadium you can go on and they will take you up to the top and on certain days you can stand right next to the petals and watch them open and close. I think it takes 12 minutes to open. I don't think the designers expected Arthur Blank to choose this design and were probably sweating bricks when they realized they had to actually build it. They're the same people who designed to the stadium in Minnesota for the Vikings.
Lack of public transit? Are you sure you're talking about the right place? I can think of at least 4 different MARTA stations within walking distance of this place. It's right by Georgia Tech and Georgia State University. I've walked there from Ashby Station myself before and I could have caught a bus there if I wanted to. I don't even think Ashby is the closest station either. I think there are others that are even closer. I've heard a lot of complaints about downtown Atlanta (traffic, crime, homelessness, etc.) but a lack of public transit has never been one of them. If anything there might be too many Marta stations in Atlanta. They keep trying to expand and bring more Marta stations to communities that don't even want them.
There's a MARTA station on the east and west side of the stadium and the State Farm arena and the World Congress center are right next door. That big 22+ million dollar bridge goes from the stadium to the Vine City MARTA station across the street. It was closed for the Super Bowl because it was used for the security component of the SB.
The public transportation/infrastructure complaints comes from the sheer volume of cars that go through the metro area, even on weekends. While there are multiple MARTA stations near MBS and State Farm Arena, if you venture beyond downtown, that's not exactly the case anywhere else. Case in point, if you ever tried going to a Braves game in Cobb County, you'll get my point. In fact, they only serve three counties (Fulton, Dekalb, and recently, Clayton) while there are close to 20 others in the metro area, with millions flowing there every single day. And because there are so many counties and municipalities within the area with no ruling body to make the final call on things, there is hardly ever a consensus that can be made on how to solve traffic issues or transportation, as everyone shows up with their own agendas...
Thanks for doing this video. I posted a few comments a couple weeks ago asking you to do one of these specifically on this stadium. I don't know if you saw the comments and that's why you made this or if it was just a coincidence. Thanks either way though. I had no idea about the "Greenhouse Stadium." Very cool. I really liked the retractable roof on that one. It looks as if it would open up much more than the current one. The current "Camera-Lens Retractable Roof Stadium" really does look pretty cool from the outside. I guess some people don't like it because it definitely stands out and doesn't look like the buildings around it but it was always supposed to stand out. They didn't spend a billion and a half dollars to build something that looked basic. It looks a bit like an evil empire spaceship or something. Not like a retro design rounded spaceship that's friendly. If you ever watch Sci-Fi movies where they make sure the evil and most violent aliens get the craziest looking spaceships so you can tell right away they are evil just by the design of their ship... That's what Mercedes-Benz Stadium looks like. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work. Also, you might want to consider replying to some people's comments on your videos. Just a thought. A lot of creators choose not to but from my experience the creators who do interact with their fans end up making them fans for life. There's a few channels I go to where the creators interact a lot and a ton of us watch and comment on every video every day because we all feel like we know each other and know the creator. Great video though!
At 0:36, that IS a renovation model of the Georgia Dome, as the original intent was to stay there. But with the cost of renovation only being a little bit off what a new building would be (well, maybe not MBS, but still), they put that idea to bed. At 2:00, that is a rendering of a new stadium idea if the Falcons were to decide to move from the Georgia Dome to where the old Atlanta Civic Center once stood in Midtown. As you could guess, it never received any serious consideration, as one can tell from the primitive looks of it. The soccer team who plays there is Atlanta United FC. They're a pretty big deal down here, as they've pretty much have led MLS in average attendance every year and have broken several attendance records since its' inception...
I tried to search how many times the Falcons have actually used the retractable roof and could not find anything but I can tell you its only been a handful of times and they have had nothing but issues with the roof, in fact I don't believe they had any open air games last season. Moral is, don't spend an extra 750 million on a retractable roof. Just either go full roof or open air.
The only retractable roof design that I think transforms the stadium in a worthy and noticeable way is Lucas Oil, and it's because of the beautiful roof design with the large retractable windows on each end zone. The Ginger's love for that stadium made me realize how underrated it is, only retractable roof stadium that fully achieves the effect of turning into an outdoor venue.
They open the roof when the weather is right (not too hot and not to cold and not on cloudy days) and they have inform the NFL days in advance if it will be open n game day and can't change that decision. It does not leak either. They took care of that when it was built.

I live in ATL. The benz is my favorite venue. It’s so good. Yes it’s also home to soccer (leads MLS in attendance).

I live in atl too. I’m a Pittsburgh sports fan but it’s my favorite arena as well. Go hawks and atl United too!

It’s crazy how much hate the stadium gets 😂 this channel is the only person I’ve ever heard talk shi about this stadium
Atlanta sure loves to build stadiums.
So depressing given the lack of public transit and terrible infastructure.

I give it 30 years... 😅

They use it pretty often tbh. They even opened it for last years practice.

Looks fine to me?

The finished product is always different from the renderings.
Acoustics are terrible for concerts, the sound echos off the glass
They still haven't gotten the sound right.
stadium is nice but roof sucks
