    I own this car. if you hit the gas too harshly fuel economy will drop below 30. keep in mind it's a turbo. if you're gentle with the throttle and keep the car in eco mode it'll exceed the fuel economy estimates. I've average 43.9 before.

    My 2016 Civic Touring already has Electrical problem after two weeks lol. The screen keeps on beeping randomly, applications closed out on its own. Should keep this in mind if you're shopping for this car. My car is still in the dealer's service, they're still scratching their heads trying to figure out what's wrong with it LOL. Luckily I took a video and showed it to them.

    MPG definitely attainable with judicious use of the turbo. Averaged 45.6 mpg on my commute, speeds from 65-85. And I used the turbo a bit, too :). Awesome car

    Went for a cruise with friends yesterday and two of my friends who sat in the rear seats (5"11' and 6"2') were both very comfortable. They both said it's not common for them to be comfortable in the rear seats, but they were in the 2016 Civic.

    This new Civic is so good, it makes me wonder why people would buy an Accord (other than for more room and V6 options).

    • @midnitestate
      @midnitestate 8 років тому +3

      I think manly because the civic is still in the compact (if you can even call it that) range and the Accord has a bit more class behind even though this model civic is super nice for what it is

      buildmorefarms100 When I was recently trying to trade in my car, I was deciding between the Mazda3 and the new Civic. I thought about it and couldn't see myself driving a car with CVT. Ugh. The only times I drove and will drive a CVT is for driving education purposes in which I won't need to do again.

    DAVE: GREAT review as always, though there were some sound issues in a couple of parts that made hearing you a bit difficult. I sure LOVE this car and plan a test drive. However, I DID notice the leather wrinkles on the back seats and they sure looked bad. I would expect Honda quality to be better with this. And too bad that the front seats have no lumbar support which should have been a part of this car, too, esp. for drivers on long drives.

I am a little disappointed in the lag in the infotainment system; I noticed some of your "pushes" on the screen had to be repeated for it to recognize... the new Civic with the 1.5t is damn near perfect.

    Nice review. I've been car searching on and off for two months and have been in two different Honda Accords for the past 10 years. I went into it certain that I didn't want another Honda not due to issues but styling and driving excitement really. I'd driven the Mazda 6, Hyundai Sonata Sport, Nissan Altima, VW, Subaru, etc.... and then on a whim I went in to the Honda dealer wanted to get a look at the Civic, which honestly didn't really catch my eye from the outset. I saw the car, sat in it, drove it and I was sold. The driving dynamics (with the Turbo) are great. The ride was very solid, cabin was quiet, fit and finish excellent, roomy inside (remember I was coming from a larger vehicle) and I brought my wife back for a second look. Signed the paperwork and should be taking delivery in a few days. If you're in the market, like Dave said, don't buy until you check out the Civic. You may be very surprised.

    Very nice review Dave, but where is the 0-60? I was looking forward to that the most, since I have seen multiple numbers on the 1.5T below 7 sec. U did mention it was raining though, so perhaps that was the reason u did not run one. Since u had recently also reviewed the 2016 Mazda 3S with the 2.5, which do u think provides better handling overall. Thank you again for the quality reviews, and Merry Christmas to you and Melissa.

    Great review Dave. I am surprised there isn't snow on the ground in Spokane. Anyways, addressing the fuel economy, one reason could be that it is an almost brand new car and therefore you are still in the "engine break-in" phase. Another is that it is the middle of winter and so the heater/defogger is always running (which means the A/C is also running in the background (lower humidity air). I drove a Ford Fusion 1.5L ecoboost as my rental in November in Seattle and it also had sub-par fuel economy. It is important to remember that 1.5L is the size of a large motorcycle engine and it is trying to motivate 3,000 lbs of metal down the road. As such the engine is always working harder than say a 2.0L or 2.5 L 4 cylinder engine. For your viewers edification, the smaller engine sizes have to do with the European tax above the 1.5L displacement. Many car companies are trying to do the "One Ford" thing, where they sell the same model in all world markets, to offset production costs. This is what caused Ford to change the Fusion engine from a 1.6L ecoboost to a 1.5L ecoboost from 2015 to 2016.I hope maybe you can review a lower level trim Civic with the bigger engine that is naturally aspirated and see if fuel economy improves in "Everyman Driver" real world. I'll bet it does.

    Many people don't like the design of this car here in Europe. My opinion is that Honda designed this car not to be same or similar as other boring German cars. This car looks totally different and I appreciate their effort. I would buy it no doubt but with manual gearbox. Great review.

    So at first I thought I was going to be bothered by that 'hatchbacky' look to the new Civic. I've always wanted my sedan to have adequate trunk space. But to say the least, I am (more than) pleasantly surprised. I think I'm in love. At this point, I don't even wanna shop around. All I want is a 2016 Honda Civic. Point Blank Period.

Headlights that turn with the wheels. Nav, Backup Camera and back cross traffic warning. 18" Wheels, Dual exhaust and more

      +John Edmond Dont forget the cons however, mazdas arent known for reliability YET. They also have a major major complain... ride quality. The skyactiv engine is nice and competes with the cvt but the mazda 3 lacks a turbo engine or a stronger engine option. I was thinking of getting one but the civic just has a bigger bang in my opinion.

    • @rellykz2175
      @rellykz2175 8 років тому

      +wonderwall135 I'm not making stuff up are you stupid? Mazda has had a good reliability for what 3 maybe 4 years running? They used to produce piece of shits with their co partner Ford. Back then nobody wanted Mazda's besides the Miata because their cars were a piece of junk with so many problems. They get so many electrical system alternator/generator, fuel system/tank assembly issues and recalls that its not even worth purcashing it and these were in their new models. It's a 2.5l producing 184 horsepower but when you drive it in person it lacks the power to make it the car that gives it the edge over the Civic. I've driven the Civic EXT and the Mazda 3/6 already, the Civic has the better response time and is much faster as well as the seats feel much more comfortable. Lastly you got your facts wrong, the Civic's turbo DOESN'T require premium gas. Nor is it recommended to use premium gas. This turbo is recommended to use regular unleaded. Not all turbo's require premium, that is only a thing of the past.

    the biggest things that have kept me away from caring at all about the civic since 2006 are
    1. digital only speedometer ( why not make it so there is an option to make it analog via a digital display)
    2. now they have gone to cvt's. i wouldn't buy any car with a cvt ever, reliability is unproven long term.

    Best Civic since .. wow a long time. Like Corolla their success was anchored in the brand, far more than the product. Honda has the struggle like many with finding good transmissions, and it sounds like the CVT is alright now .. can't imagine how their marketing will handle it after years of being so critical of the technology

  • @howardpower
    @howardpower 7 років тому

    Well, I’ll throw in my two cents since I own the 2017 Honda Civic Touring in Pearl White. I was kind of disappointed there wasn’t any proximity sensors or a blind spot detection on the drivers side. But, I found out that if you look closely at the far left of the drivers side mirror, you’ll see it curve like those circle blind spot mirrors you buy from auto zone. So Honda did give us blind spot detection, just in an old fashion way. Low tech, lol. Another thing. No LED lighting for the interior. Only LED is where you put your phone down in front of the gear shifter. Third, no paddle shifters or sport shifting. Sports mode is fine, but with a turbo engine, it’ll be nice to play around with the power band.
    That’s it. I just listed the things I felt could’ve needed improving on which was a very very small list. Everything else is gorgeous and very well built. Honda sites tell you how the motors are built and the technology behind the 1.5L turbo motor. I was very impressed at the articles. Safe to say, we have a very strong engine that will last for a long time. It’s power ratio for this size mated with CVT transmission takes advantage of low end torque and power in the long run.
    Touring model has beautiful subtleties that makes it standout compared to lower end Civic models such as premium rim designs, shark fin antenna, all LED headlamp and DTRL, rear deck lip, and chrome door handles. Black interior leather matches with my pearl white exterior and smoked rims......just beautiful. Lots of fun options for the touch screen control center including smartphone link as mentioned in the video.
    One thing, buy a couple of USB extender cables. Three feet minimum will do. I’ll go 6’ and roll it up so I can share my phone and/or USB flash drive around the car for friends and family member in the car with me. I don’t like leaving my flash drive plugged in overnight in case it drains the battery. The extender cable allows you to connect to the hard to reach USB ports (one under the first layer shelf area in front of the gear shifter and one inside the center console) and easily connect/disconnect your phone and flash drive.
    There’s nothing else to explain here as everything else is flawless. Looks great inside as well as out. Performs as expected from a Civic and more. Civic Touring looks like a cross between a Mercedes and an Acura. Yeah, it looks that good.
    I disabled my “Walk away and alarm activation” feature because it got annoying. Every time I walk away from my car, it beeps to arm it. Imagine if you have to keep going back and forth to get something from your car. Lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock. Disabled. Lol. If you like it, leave it enabled. There are many many more settings you can set. Just play with it with the car parked and ACC button in the On position. Oh, Touring model comes with remote engine start and it’s there on the wireless key fob. You can disable that too in the settings if you wish. Gas fill up. There is no cap. It’s something new and all you have to do is insert the gas nozzle into the tank and fill. There are no switch, pull handle, push button to open the gas tank cover from inside the car. You push the cover once and it pops open. It will only open if you have your key fob with you. There are so many other new features that I can’t write it all down here. You’ll have to watch other comprehensive videos or go to a Honda dealer to check them out.
    It comes with KARR security system. It’s up to you if you want to activate it or not. It cost extra. I chose to activate it because Honda is the number one stolen vehicle in the US. Peace of mind folks. Get it! It comes standard with the car but only activated if you choose to purchase the service.

    not sure why there is no option to release the back seats from the inside? I get the idea of the release levers from inside the trunk but you still have to get inside the back and fold them down. Too much tech for the driver info center. Still prefer the analogue dash. And the lack of a volume knob right at the stereo. Either on the steering wheel or the touch screen. hat if you are wearing gloves? Does the steering wheel volume control still work?

    There are so many variables when it comes to calculating fuel economy (temp, driving style, location, elevation, tire PSI, etc). I am confident this car can achieve high 30's low 40's in real world driving. My 14 Civic Si has achieved an average 32 mpg over 2 years of ownership. My daily commute, (20% country roads/80% highway), achieves 35 mpg consistently. Not bad for the "old" Honda K-series technology which is why this new modern 1.5L should and could do a lot better especially if the boost can be kept to a minimum . After all, this Civic is designed for commuting and not really for spirited driving which Honda will be taking care of shortly with the new Si and Type R variants.

I will be trading in by 13' Mazdaspeed 3 in for a 2016 Civic (EX 2.0L or the EX-T 1.5T) not sure. I wife can't drive manuel and my daughter will be driving soon. I have a 2015 Civic EXL and love it cuz it's a compact commuter with a lot of great features and great gas mileage. And when you see it you know it's a Civic. These new Civic's are freaking huge! The 2016's are basically slightly smaller Accords now and expensive as shit for a Civic. I think if someone wants to buy one of these they might as well spend just a little bit more and get an Accord. I'm sad to say that I probably won't be buying a new Civic ever again.

      +MrPbrogan It really depends. To a lot of people it's not worth it, but the LED headlamps make the car look more upscale, almost like an Acura (well, nicer looking than an Acura in my opinion). There are other features that come on the Touring, but as I said it really depends if you want those extra features and what kind of image you want to portray to people as the LED headlamps really do make the car look more upscale. I personally just got a blue touring coupe with wireless phone charging.

    Hey Dave! Are u going to review the new 2016 Civic coupe??

  • @ShawnCopeland
    @ShawnCopeland 8 років тому

    I'm currently planning to purchase a new car and have it narrowed down to the 2016 Civic EX-T or the 2016 Golf S. While the golf S is a bit cheaper it's also a bit lighter on features (forgoing the remote start, heated seats, and better warranty).
    What are your thoughts between the two cars. I typically don't resale cars and drive them until death.

    The 2016 Civic with the 1.5 Liter turbo engine and CVT is faster than the 2015 Civic Si with the manual transmission from Hondata's video. How could this happen? Cold air is beneficial for turbo-charged engines. Honda underrated this engine probably to avoid excessive insurance costs, which is the highest among compact cars.

    On the brakes staying engaged until you give it gas, can that be turned off? Because I like inching forward by just modulating the brake pedal. I don't see why this would be useful unless it's a manual transmission anyway.

    I HOPE HONDA fixed the drivers and passenger WIND noise since last year! It was like a HURRICANE of WIND coming in at ear level and HONDA does not like to FIX anything for five years! The 2009-20013 were issued fix it recalls by honda and for the Accord models as well. That NOISE just makes it unbearable and unrealistic to pay for a car in the twenty thousand dollar area and get build quality less than KIA! But I do like the design!

    Everything is not a touchscreen these days! The base 2016 Civic has a touch-less display and lacks the upgraded steering wheel controls. The joys of going with a base model…! Let's hope the touchscreen becomes standard on all trim levels on most cars in the future.

    I'm assuming you may be driving over 70mph and also the engine is probably still being burned in, so gas mileage is usually lower- from my experiences. While nice, I don't like the rear and the length. It's too long for a compact class vehicle.
