Have you hever used the aftermarket gears? Febi bilstein etc.....these things are $800.00 each from MB. I usually buy OEM only but these are ridiculous from MB. Great video BTW!! I would use OEM tensioner , VC gaskets, chain guides though.
@carworks101 or anybody else is interested. What kind of camera do you all recommend when working on a vehicle. Whenever I'm working I try to take a video but my little head camera that I borrowed from my son has like an 8 minute limit on it and I tried one of those things where you wear your phone on your head and that's just awkward. What's the best way to video tape while you're working on a car. What's a good camera to use and how do you position it
Thanks for the great vid mate, helped guide me through replacing the timing gears on my c200 2013 without any fuckups or breakages. Wish I could like your vid 10 times over.
I was after i little advice please ive had my timing chain done but every so often my eml comes on and still getting camshaft sensor a come up on the obd reader. Had my timing checked again by a mechanic and my timing is fine just the camsaft sensor a ive replaced the sensor but still keeps happening any suggestion at all.. its mercedes c180 2010
The m271.8 evo timing marks on the camshafts shouldn’t line up. I replaced both camshafts and lined them up correctly and got a p0017. Found out that the camshafts are out of spec on some m271.8 engines. So I just spun the engine to TDc took off the chain and let the camshafts reset themselves. Put the chain back on and no code. Now I have a rough idle. My scanner is showing me that my ignition angle is around -10 to 15 degrees. So I think my tensioner is not out.
Is there a way to check if the chain stretched and needs replacement to without taking it off? Marking it like you did and just doing the adjusters seems better but not wanting to take everything apart twice
After the tensioner “activated” it’s no longer on top center. The paint marker spots are still on the chain in the right spot tho. Thinking the chain might have stretched and needs to be replaced?

You would hear rattling correct, when decelerating, that’s why you changed the cam gears? Mine has been suffering from this over 3 years already. Only sometimes the rattling happens then it doesn’t. I need to get it fixed. Thank you for this video it’s really helpful.👍
there's no need to change the crankshaft gear too? doesn't it get damaged by the loose chain?

I have. These from Febi Bilstein last just as long, if not longer than the OEM fittings. Confirming this with my 2011 C200 CGI with the M271 engine.
what tool is that, to hold the cam gear align

Hi. Just wondering why the chain wasn't replaced while doing the cams and tensioner 🤔
No need to, you would need to roll a new one in, the sprockets just wear out
@carwerks101 thanks for video. Question, how come you didn't have to use the 32 thin wrench I see other videos using for this repair?

Why didn't you change out the chain also while you was in there? Do you recommend doing so?
Because you need special tools to do it that I didn’t have, you need to take apart the chain and roll a new one in

Sounds like either timing isn’t correct or a failing timing gear, does it make any noise upon start up?

With the adjuster being on the marks and the crank also being on the mark with piston one at tdc. Does it matter where the chains falls in place?
no

Is there a way to check if the chain stretched and needs replacement to without taking it off? Marking it like you did and just doing the adjusters seems better but not wanting to take everything apart twice
the only way to measure slack is using the specials tool which goes in the tensioner slot and measures the slack
