I got a RWD MY on 4/12. I figured this was coming at some point as some people looked at specs like weight and the DC charging curve and noticed it likely shipped with the same battery. I am excited to have this upgrade and will likely do it for those road trips
If it was price $39-$41K it would make sense. But for an extra $3K I get awd better 0-60, more speakers, fog lights. Makes more sense to just spend the extra $3K
Makes sense to wait for AWD inventory discounts to come back. That's what I'm doing anyway.
I agree
BTG. Best source for Breaking News, especially in regards to pricing and feature updates. Always clear and concise. Thanks, BTG!
Bought my MYP in March of 2022 when the AMD chips were shipping. Mine didn’t have the AMD chip, now I’m missing out on software updates, BUT I paid the same price as someone who was lucky enough to get the AMD chip. Some BS. Glad Tesla has a lot more competition. My next electric car will likely be the EQS 450+
Dang, i rather have the soft locked short range for $2k less and just charge to 90% everyday. Missed opportunity
I am a simple minded guy, before I write a check I need to see all options without all games like gas saving and tax credits. Do not try to full me with prices of about 40000, when I have to write a check for 60000 dollars, or I simply walk away.
Uncheck the box for potential savings. Problem solved.
Interesting how this is being spun as a good thing. If you're paying a premium for a car, you shouldn't have to pay even more a year or so later to "unlock" more range since it was obviously already capable of it. ICE manufacturers would be rightfully trashed if they tried to pull a similar move (if it was possible), but it's okay for Tesla? Nah. This is the definition of anti-consumer.
Those aftermarket shocks you installed on your model Y, where did u set them to? I got some and feel they are still bumpy, but they are adjustable.
Unless you work uber, the unlock gives nothing. Driving cross country top of the range does not get utilized either. Its run low, charge in the power zone strategy, where the unlocked miles do not get utilized
I have a 2023 MY RWD. I'd buy the extra range if available, but I don't really need it right now. Will be more useful to recover range lost to degradation. Do you know how long previous range unlock options were available?
Great find! Thanks BTG!
Yay!!! I can charge my to 100%
yep, that's great news actually. No reason to unlock. like you said, charge to 100% and you're good
Pretty insane to build a car them pruposefully remove potential to put it behind a paywall.
There was a point where LR AWD was $44,090 few months back. Missed out on that price point and hope it drops to that again?
I got the MYLR for 44k-7500 a month ago and 10k free supercharge and 3 months of free self driving!
If I still lived in Florida, I would seriously consider the MY RWD LR, but now that I live in Colorado, I need AWD vehicles. 10 miles isn't much to give up for AWD.
I love teslas FOMO marketing strategy!!! ❤❤❤
I took delivery of my 24 model y rwd in march and very happy that this is becoming available! Not thrilled about the $2k however.
But thinking about the other comments.. why can’t i just charge to 100% and get the 260, rather than paying $2k and getting the same at 80%?
I bought a 2023 RWD on Dec. 28. It would be great if I could add range. I hope Tesla lets me know when this is available.
This is bullshit. EV's with their fewer moving parts were supposed to be cheaper than ICE vehicles but they aren't. I need a simple economical commuter vehicle. I can get a Toyota for $27.5k but a Y costs $37.5k. But I'll save money on gas right? I did the math. It takes 10 years to save $10k on gas and the Toyota has cheaper insurance, lower tire costs, & a better resale value. The empty promises of EV's are getting very old.
Ooh 👀 bout to say bye model 3 hello Y
I would enable 60miles for $1.5k
Just charge to 100% instead of 80%.
@@JonathanRootD That lowers battery life span.
@@rogerh2694same battery
I would still pick the long range dual motor. 2 motors gives you stronger regen and less brake wear
Interesting…more range? Thats what we always wanted. Thinking about selling my new MYLR that I got with major discounts as is not really needed and wait for MY Refresh. But prices keep going up 🤔
Cars weren't selling with the previous prices. Imagine now that they raised them even more. What kind of strategy is that? Seems like the future for Tesla is not so good 😬
Notice it is estimated 40/60 miles.....so what is real world, 15/25 ?
I wouldn't pay to unlock it I would just know that zero doesn't mean 0 when it comes to range
With Tesla, they'll probably just shut the car down anyway even when you know you're not at 100%. Tesla is brutal
@jon-slem there is video of ppl going 20miles after zero 🤷♂️ not me tho
The cells are software locked from fully charging
Better to not unlock the range. It meant you have no battery degradation.
and just charge to 100% instead of 80%. It's the same thing. That's great news actually. It's like telling us to just charge to 100% without worry.
I hope that they allow the 7 seat configuration of the LR RWD. With the tax credit, it would be the price of a Toyota Highlander. And Model Y LR RWD is a much better vehicle for most families.
Waiting for model y refresh!🎉
Going to be waiting a while.
@rayshafer770 the wait will likely be shorter than getting a cybertruck order fulfilled-- my guess for Model Y refresh is by Q3 2025⏳️
Does all the games Tesla plays bother anyone. It bothers me and since all these features came with the car but they are locked at what point does the justice department start to weight in on fraud?
Per Elon’s X post, Tesla waited for regulatory approval before offering so there’s that.
Too many Model Y sitting in LOT, they trying to get those OLD model Model Y and Model S, Model X out of door. The Newer version will all be like NEW MODEL 3 with interior Lights and rear Passenger screen for UA-cam
And no turn signal.
Doesn't Tesla already have much higher profit margins on their cars compared to traditional dealers?
Definitely much higher. It will stay that way until people stop purchasing. Then Tesla would change their tune.
Yet the MODEL 3 performance gone up!
Say "hi" to Nick Fuentes!
Why not give it to the long-range it's in the name
Save your money and aggravation with poor build quality. Buy a Toyota Camry. Buy mutual funds. Save cash and stay away from credit cards. Don’t be dumb and live a YOLO life.
You’ve just received millionaire wisdom for free. So don’t buy your model 3.
Don’t forget tax depending on where you live. Smhhhhhhh
Charging more to unlock something built into a vehicle seems wrong to me. Seems shady. I won’t pay to unlock heated seats and I won’t pay to unlock extra range.
You pay for nav updates for legacy for decades now, you pay for connectivity also for years now.
How is being able to access additional features you didnt pay for originally, at reasonable prices as you can afford adding them any different?
@@4literv6easy. For nav and connectivity, you can use your phone. Intentionally not giving you the full range of your battery just so they can charge you thousands later on is most definitely shady.
Nav updates are additional items you didn’t have when purchasing it.
The battery you do have.
Big difference.
You didn’t actually have access to the additional range. Another way to look at it is, you got a discount for the software locked range. It’s up to you if you want to keep that and presumably charge to 100% with not a whole lot of concern for extra battery degradation.
@@berova I had access to the physical battery. If they locked out the additional range to charge more for it, than that isn't right. Just like if I had heated seats but they wouldn't turn them on unless I paid more. Same scenario.
Model x plaid qualified for 7500$ tax 😮
No it doesn't, it's $93K. Uncheck the fake gas saving option.
Anybody else tired of Tesla
Love your vids, not full of time consuming fluff, point and shoot, thanx brother
Just about to close my eyes. Really not feeling the super charger team news 😢. Thanks as always for the news.
yeah i heard they all stopped working!!
I know what you mean, it hurts my heart that Elon let go of its SuperCharger team. I love my Y, I will always be a loyal customer, but what Elon is doing is hurting the trust in the brand with future non Tesla consumers. But i hope its for the best of the company, but we will see i guess over time.
@@mkrisch1986 Yall never worked for a startup it seems?
Can't believe they took out the standard RWD drive. The price was really good
LR AWD was 44,090 in inventory months back and miss that price point too. But more miles is more comforting overall when they're all pretty low to begin with.
Does this mean that previous short range RWD can charge 100% without sacrificing SOH since it will be technically charge around 85%???… also charging curve should not drop?
Why pay extra $1500 but instead chatge to 100% instead of 80% now
That's the big brain move
😂 Elon banking on small 🧠
Because 320 miles of range is still more than 260.
@@ChuckIttOut Definitely, if you actually need that mileage for your daily needs or long distances without regular charging. Otherwise, you would rarely, if ever, use it.
@@ChuckIttOut man, you're stupid. It's the same battery
Don’t buy a Tesla unless you test drive one with windows closed and music off. Too many rattles and squeaks.
lol my model y is so quiet and smooth.
ICE dealers change their prices constantly with rebates, incentives, etc.
The dealers get the hate. Not the manufacturer like Tesla is now getting. People are just not happy with Tesla anymore. That's a big reason why sales are cratering.
Yes, they give incentives and rebates, but their MSRP’s don’t fluctuate anything close to what Tesla does.
Why didn’t the Quicksilver color show up on yours? When I was on the site last night, the Quicksilver color was available to custom order. I just checked and now it is GONE!! I was able to choose Quicksilver last night!!! 😱😩😩😩😩
Quick silver is only on LR AWD and Performance
@@LeonidasD828 Yes thank you 🙏🏾
@@LeonidasD828 So AWD can distingish themselves as the elites for paying $3k more by having quicksilver color?
We are looking to trade UP from our 2022 MYP to an S (that added 100+ miles of range would eliminate 2 to 3 charging stops) when we take road trips to visit the grandkids 3 or 4 times each year. For us that would be a game changer. But we will hold off pending future updates to the S/X models.
We are seniors as well that have a 1K mile road 2 day trip to see the kids & grands. At our age we enjoy getting out of the car every 2-3 hours, 150 to ~200 miles. While 400 mile range car may sound great it may be way more than anyone can reasonably use.
It was great meeting you today sir! 😊
It was great to meet y'all too!
Charging 100% is good for me😅
i wonder if i should trade in my 2020 M3 SR+ for the MY RWD then??? well, maybe if they offer to transfer my FSD over to the new car?? or if on 8/8 it turns out that robotaxis are coming, then put my M3 onto the network and just get a new MY RWD???? omg, the possibilities!!!
I wonder if they will eventually offer the Model Y RWD LR with 7 seater option in the future? I'm sure there's a market for that configuration.
Just a couple months ago I could buy a LR-AWD For the same price as the new LR-RWD. So this is not an improvement. This isn't going to drive sales.
I love your charts. Are they shared with the public on Google sheets?
Will there be any compromise in long term battery capacity with the feature unlocked?
I have to be honest. I absolutely love the concept of a high tech low maintenance autonomous driving vehicle that doesn't use fossil fuels as a power source. But what is being offered now doesn't come close to filling any of those parameters. As of now, I wouldn't want to take ownership of a battery powered vehicle if it were dropped off for free in my driveway.
If you get Solar PV installed on your house, now it's powered by renewable energy.... I don't see the issue here.
@@imzjustplayin Unfortunately, I don't live in an area of the USA where my local conditions make solar power a practical or viable financial alternative to traditional energy generation. One of my relatives lives in the tropics, and is quite happy being able to ride out frequent power outages with no hassle. Aside from that, he has seen no real savings upside due to high cost of bank interest payments to purchase his solar system, the added increase to his homeowner's insurance policy, and bills he must pay to the installation company for regular maintenance or when something breaks.
@@BonannoCM The problem you're describing is one of the economics of the solar PV install.
The rule of thumb I have for solar PV installations is that the cost per watt installed should be below $3 per watt and the system should pay for itself no later than 10 years. Even in Michigan, if you get a Solar PV installation for less than $3 per watt installed BEFORE tax credits, the system SHOULD pay for itself within 10 years and likely sooner than that assuming you get an average of 4 hours of sun per day. Solar PV systems don't really need much of any maintenance as cleaning them does improve production, it isn't terribly necessary especially if the math of cleaning them exceeds the production gain/loss of cleaning or not cleaning them.
The Solar PV systems I installed in california 18 years ago are still operating, I paid $2.50 per watt before tax incentives and they paid for themselves within the first 4 years of installation.
Just be aware that solar PV equipment is incredibly cheap these days and I know this because I had a 10KW solar PV system installed in Australia for $8000 USD 4 years ago w/o any tax credits applied. The reason solar PV is expensive in the USA is because of soft costs. $0.60w per watt for equipment, $0.40 per watt for labor, the rest are soft costs.
@@imzjustplayin Location is still a critical factor. Not every home has good Sun exposure. I, for example, live in a near-forest environment. And, according to Google, the average American moves roughly 12 times in their life, which is about every five years. For most short term homeowners, the presence of rooftop solar cells would be a negative on the desirability scale.I'm an exception that's lived in my present home going on 16 years, and have had major roof repairs done twice. Removing and replacing solar cells can't be an insignificant additional expense. For me they're just not practical. If I ever move, who knows?
@@BonannoCM I don't know how handy you are but once a solar pv system is installed, reinstalling it in the same spot if roof repairs are needed isn't a huge deal. Saying that solar pv makes no sense because people move frequently isnt any different than saying you shouldn't repair your roof or replace an a/c unit because you won't be there long enough to enjoy the benefits.
is the updated model y expected this year?
When are we getting the spring update
LFP?
Yes for sure
Canada does not have this option it only has model y RWD and long range and performance
Is that because Canada gets Shanghai made MY?
@@berova not sure
Tired of Tesla nickel and diming me. Buy one model then wait and all of a sudden all the promises of the vehicle I purchased is changed because they say the change in hardware is needed. Now they want people to change for extra range. Losing trust with Tesla.
Why because you only got what you paid for?
I would rather have the choice of buying extra range than thinking I should have waited for the new version.
@@thewaygokid3135no it's about broken promises. Look at the hardware 3 vs 4.
I rather take your software lock short range than this long range to save $2k and be able to charge to 90%+ everyday. You got a bargain, buddy
@@mluu510 I have a long range that’s not my issue it’s the garbage of have version 3 cpu waiting for the full self driving to work as promised waiting for the tweet that says we have to pay more for what I’ve paid for already. Thanks for the comment but my concern is the crap of hiding stuff that should have been on the loan. I’ve already paid over 60 k for a long range M3 with full self driving don’t need it to be software locked or told the feature I’ve paid for won’t work because of Elons greed
