Thank you for including the interactions with the clerks, i like how you both end up understanding each other. Wanna go to Japan soon for retro game hunting but social interactions is what is holding me back the most. I like how they're understand and trying to help despite the language barrier.
Friends used to be my favorite shop in Akiba. Friendly owner and plenty of games for less common systems. Unfortunately, the shop closed permanently this year. Nice to see another one appreciating Faxanadu btw :)
Loved to see you have so much fun. Akihabara is nice, but the prices are insane. If you have some time, go hunting in Hard offs and Book offs in the outskirts of Tokio (Saitama, Chiba, Tachikawa for instance). Depending on where you're staying in Tokio only a hour or hour and a half by metro. Prices are a bit more friendly and the thrill of the hunt is equally nice imho.
BEEP was actually right next to Surugaya, it's located in a different building and there's a staircase leading down to the shop. It's actually quite easy to miss it!
I like that there is a "Retro game hunting in Japan is a scam" video recommended. Maybe if you go out to the burbs and not the touristy places it won't cost as much but then you will be on your own.
I do love these shops, the prices may be high but the way they are all laid out and customer service is great! I don't mind paying the extra for a great experience!
Just to let you know about Super Mario Bros 2. They had two different versions of it in Japan. the original game is Doki Doki Panic (Arabic themed game in disk) and it was converted to Super Mario Bros 2 with Mario bros characters in USA in cartrdge. Super Mario Bros 2 in NES cart would be known as Super Mario Bros 2 USA in Japan. You are either going to have to look for that cart, or get Doki Doki Panic on Famicom disk system.
Man this seems tough to figure out what to get.. soooo many games! Somehow when I went to Japan in 2007 and visited Akihabara I didn't venture into video game stores, but that's probably for the best since my wallet would have been drained.
You literally went to all the shops that are overpriced because they know foreigners will go to those areas to buy all those games like sheep. Take a train an hour East North or West to second hand shops of Tokyo and see great scenery and find amazing prices and items . That’s the real hunting and adventure.
Solatterhouse wanpaku graffiti. I did see a wai wai world 2 in box there is well. Definitely worth a pick up. Also keep an eye out for kid Dracula also on famicom or gameboy
It's not very expensive if you wanted to be smart about it and not just march into touristy stores and pay whatever ridicilous amount of money they ask, there are a ton of other stores you know

Same. Japanese appreciation for these things is amazing. But it is also the source.
@16:33 Wai Wai World 2 by Konami is a classic, should go back and get it!

I am still here for just under two weeks, I'll try and get around!
Search for bookoff super bazzar or hard offs that are outside Tokyo@@BILLTHORPE
Enjoying Japan as a tourist is better than living in Japan. Living in Japan is hard.
Really how so? as planning to move there🤘🏻
Going to super potato to hunt is like going to airport's overpriced stores to shop your groceries
it's true! the experience I feel is worth it, I love the people, layout, sights and sounds.
Great watch! Looks like a blast
So much fun!

Point of the retro game. レトロゲーム。Thanks
@8:33 Faxanadu was in the black wire basket at the bottom of the screen ;)
I finally found the people who drove the Japanese to double and triple their prices, people who buy at ridiculously inflated prices.
It's always a treat, albeit a jealous one, to see your adventures in Japan Bill!
hehe! it's a lovely place! I may cry when I leave!
Can't wait until my trip to Japan comes up in Octobre. I will be hunting for all kinds of chocolate milk instead and visiting the theme parks.
Its a lovely place
awesome video Bill!
thank you
Nice Video! How is the song called in the end?
That ending is so "Lost in Translation"-esque!
