So I'm curious guys: Do you prefer this? Or do you like them the regular way: pure, un-altered, un-mastered soundfont, like the game? I personally really like how this turned out, & it opens up a whole new avenue for these kinds of mixes, "how good can I make the game soundfont sound?". But, if you guys would rather me keep it the old way, I'm totally fine with that.
@@9coralineTPOM I can do this with any of them I have, it's just taking the project & basically pulling all the stops, going beyond how good the games themselves sounded, while still using the same basic samples. Not all will sound this good. FFVIII's soundfont can be a pain in the ass, but when it works, it really works.
If you compare this to the version I did with KH2's soundfont it illustrates my point pretty well. ua-cam.com/video/QFq17T4sKac/v-deo.html KH2 actually has far better quality instruments than FF8, but I refined the FF8 version a lot more, much more polish. The other one is pure KH2 soundfont, the exact way it would sound in game, whereas this is a lot more produced, like a professional record.
Also, to clarify, I'd say this one is about 90% FFVIII. 8's soundfont can be problematic, there's a lot of instruments it just doesn't have, or that aren't complete. So, a couple of them are FFVII sourced (drum kit, violin).
Here's the issue: FFVIII, IX, FFX, FFXII & the KH games aren't like the early FF files. They don't have a specific, generic soundfont they draw from. Each song has it's OWN unique soundfont, with specialized instruments usually very different from the rest. Listen to the choir on Hollow Bastion vs Night of Fate, or the drums on Tension Rising vs Darkness of the Unknown. Also, they don't use the standard, PC keyboard layout, they just kinda do what they want. They''re not 'plug & play" like regular SF2s. What I mean by that is: every midi plays off a digitized keyboard in whatever program you're using. Let's use a drumkit for example. Usually, the key for a snare drum is C3 on a keyboard, if I'm recalling correctly. However, on one of the FF or KH ripped soundfonts, a C3 might be a cymbal crash, or even a vocal sample. So, when you try to play a MIDI through it, your snare instead sounds like a cymbal player having a violent seizure, or a very unhinged chipmunk choir screaming "FITHOS-FI-FI-FI-FITH-FITHOS!". They also lack any instruments that don't play in the song, so often, I have to cobble together drumkits from multiple songs just to get a complete take. What this ultimately means is: I'd have to take all the instruments, re-label them: Hopeless Desire Choir, Hopeless Desire Timpani, Seymour Synth, etc, try to get each sample placed to the right key on close to 50 different kits, then find a way to combine them all into one big soundfont, which would likely be close to 2-300 instruments, if not more. That would probably take months, & it's something I'm just not prepared to devote that much of my time to. This is why you see nowhere near as much stuff from me using soundfonts post-FF7: as cool as they are, they tend to be real pains in the ass, & it's only rarely that something comes out as good as this. Maybe I'll do it one day: I've definitely given it a lot of thought. But, that day's definitely not today, lol. I'm going to post a video soon completely covering this with examples, as it comes up pretty frequently.

I was gonna say! This has a very Dissidia-esque vibe to it, very clean and very precise.

Even with that stated, you did an impressive job with what you had to work with. Bravo, sir!
This just makes me imagine Squall/Leon gearing up with Rinoa to take on a wave of Heartless in Radiant Garden.
This is really impressive! I honestly hope my own PSX KH remixes live up to yours. Keep up the good work! ^^
I can actually see this playing when squall and the others face the sorceress across time and space
I associate this way more with 0.2 than KHIII.
I love it !
Amazing work as always!
Might I be able to make a request?
“Farewell” from Disney’s Pocahontas? Any FF Soundfont of your choice.
I'll look and see if I can find a midi anywhere.
Wow, you should use ff8's soundfont more often
How about U N Owen was Her in Final Fantasy VII version
I have a question : If all PC versions of FF use .MIDI for theirs musics, why when i checked in FF7 PC files, the musics was in .OGG ?
Which version did you have?
