  • Lots of Japanese cars have nicknames. Perhaps you've heard Hakosuka, Kenmeri & Butaketsu, but do you know the nickname of this generation of Prince Gloria, and/or the reason behind it? Watch and learn.
    Also in this video we get to see the G7 (Japan's first mass-produced SOHC) engine hand-crank started!

    Hi Dan, my Auto Electrician (George) back in the late '60's had a Sedan & Wagon (wife had the wagon) back here in Brisbane AU. & swore by them. From memory he had little to no trouble from them (Memory fading now) I remember thinking how flash they were back then with heater, radio, & cigarette lighter all standard equipment. You had to buy a Premier Holden, Valiant Regal of Ford Fairmont & I think you still needed to fit a radio to get the same comforts for nearly twice the price. Thanks so much for sharing, I don't always reply but I always have a look. Cheers Bill. Jimboomba, Australia.

    I've always believed that hand cranking an engine in the 1 to 3 liter class should be an option ( in the mid 20th century ). I love it!

    I recently bought a Tomica Limited vintage 1:64 model of this car. Similar colour I think.
    I have become quite a fan of 1:64 as of late due to the fact they are smaller and easier to display.

      Oh, lordy, Citroen persisted with a hand-crank feature up through the end of the D Series in 1975, and the 2CV to 1990!! IIRC, there were also a few Russian cars (Sorry- don't remember which ones) that continued on until the mid '80's.

      WasabiCars I used to have a 1965 New Zealand assembled Prince Gloria 6, (yes we got these in NZ too, in both sedan and estate) which had the crank handle This was deleted for our 1966 Prince Gloria (renamed Prince B200 for countries outside of Japan, incidentally the Skyline GT in NZ was badged A200)
      They were highly regarded in New Zealand, and were known somewhat as a luxury car, even though technically a base model Gloria, by Japanese Gloria specs, they did have some Super 6 niceties as standard....clock, heater, full hubcaps, rear bumper overriders, overdrive gearbox etc, and were more expensive than a Mk3 Ford Zodiac automatic.

    G'day, Dan'l. Nice looking car, the Prince Gloria Super 6. I only saw one previous video you did of the car. Beautiful looking car. Looking at the car, it reminds me of some American cars that were sold during that time. It's a shame that it was never sold here in the United States, for it would've shown us that Nissan (Datsun) were capable of building bigger cars. I love the colours these cars came in. I was wondering about the crank starter on this one. He got it started! :)

  • @Hotrodelectric
    @Hotrodelectric 10 років тому

    That Gloria is pretty nice- heavy American influence with a Japanese twist. Actually quite stylish. I wonder if the hand-crank provision on that 6 continued on when Datsun took over. I could just see someone hand-cranking their 240Z Fairlady :)

    What a cool looking car. I really like the old Glorias! It almost needs wide white walls on it. Did Japan ever go through the wide white wall phase like the US?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  10 років тому +1

      Kind of. I've seen smaller & older cars with white, plastic disks to replicate the look. This car for example: ua-cam.com/video/P-sVVKzJO0s/v-deo.html

    • @JDsHouseofHobbies
      @JDsHouseofHobbies 10 років тому

      WasabiCars They sell those in the US as well. There was a time when real wide white walls weren't available, so owners of classic cars made do with white discs.

    I saw a prince engine for sale on yahoo auctions that peaked my interest. I was said to be from a gloria or skyline. Described as an L20 and had a "rare kamaboko" head on it. kamaboko means rounded so i'm assuming rounded combustion chambers? . was this their attempt at a hemi head? the spark plugs were not in the center however.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  Рік тому

      I think I know the one. (If it's the same as the one as I think it is...) Not hemi head. Just has bolts holding the cam cover down in a more central location as opposed to at the edges. My guess would be very early Nissan Skyline GT. 1968? 1969?
