The first time I watched that all I could say was "Wow" and still it just takes my breath away.💜💜💜
The ending had me crying like the end of Wuthering Heights, Titanic and Romeo and Juliet all at once. I’ve seen this so many times and the more I understand the more I cry. The most recent thing was at the end where you can see the smoke coming off them/around them. 😭

The camcorder serves as a filter and allows imagination to roam freely. Everything is imagination through the camcorder.
Reality resumes when you see their wounds and tattered clothes.
In the end, the two of them are seen ascending to a better place through the camcorder, while they are eradicated in reality.

I don't think anyone was emotionally prepared for this - what should have been a trailer for an actual movie.
IU is deaf and Tae is blind at one eye. Someone said the lore of the MV is that the cube is getting rid of the imperfect people, AKA the disabled, and the camcorder is giving them a glimpse of what life would be like if they were the standard perfect people. The black crowd represents the people that hates or belittles them for their disability or claiming imperfect people don’t deserve to exist.
Also the saddest part is the ending where IU was covering Tae’s only good eye so he wouldn’t see their end that’s coming 😭

Someone said the cube is Cube Ent Run🤣💀. Such a beautiful video message, top notch vocals, and amazing acting! I didn't understand the message and little details of the M/V I had to watch it a second time to get it and I cried for a good 5 minutes.

Great Reaction Beautiful Queen! Your hair is awesome. I love IU's MV and IU and TaeTae's acting was excellent. TaeTae was blind in one eye and IU was deaf/mute, but they saw the beauty of each other. They looked normal to each other when they looked at each other through the camera. The evil cube sees them as inferior or imperfect and wants to destroy them. At the end you could see smoke rising so yes I believe the evil cube was burning them because you could see their ashes in camera view while their clothes were being lifted on the pile of clothes. Our handsome and multi-talented TaeTae definitely needs to do another K-drama. If you haven't seen K-drama Hwarang you definitely need to see it. It stars TaeTae, Park Hyung-sik and Park Seo-Joon. You watch it because TaeTae is in it, but end up falling for the whole cast. IU's voice is so angelic and she looked so beautiful in the wedding gown. TaeTae and IU need to do a K-drama together if possible when TaeTae is done with military duty. Be Blessed!

IU recorded the song with a bad cough and a cold
I read somewhere that IU and Tae have disabilities which are that she's deaf and he's blind in one eye. The cube is described as something that's trying to chase them and take them away because of their disabilities. If you notice, IU doesn't say anything throughout the video. She uses sign language. I also read that IU being deaf in the music video is a reference to how she actually is in real life since she has a hearing problem. And I'm assuming that Tae being blind in one eye is supposed to symbolize that he's color blind. I could be wrong on that though. The camera that IU and Tae use help them think back on the times they spent together when they were happy and without the worry of the cube coming to chase them. And at the very end of the music video, the camera shows them both floating away, indicating that after all the chasing, the cube finally captures them. And at one point, there's a big pile of clothes, which is said to symbolize all the people that have left us. And, also, at one point, IU and Tae fall after the cube captures them and it's only their clothes that fall, indicating they have also left us. But only in the story told through the music video.
There are also different interpretations of course. One being that the cube symbolizes the haters and how the haters are trying to change IU and Tae to fit the beauty standards of the K-Pop industry. Through the camera that IU and Tae both use during the music video, they see each other as how the industry wants to see them: without their imperfections and scars.

The cube is meant to represent society and how badly it treat anyone who is "different". In the MV IU is deaf while Tae is blind in one eye but since they love each other they don't see those flaws. When we see them through the camera's lens it shows how they see each other - beautiful, perfect and the world is full of life and color because they have that love. Even in the darkest moments having that one person by your side can make it bearable. The ending killed me when IU covers his one good eye and her angelic voice along with the storytelling makes this a real masterpiece and I want to see them in a kdrama together.

The cube 'Nemo' represents the discrimination towards marginalized people (symbolized in IU being mute and Taehyung being blind in one eye).

This music is political in essence. IU always does not look aside social issues. But she represent about them in her own way, in the musical way. Cubes= dominent political frame, distorting media. V= late Lee SunGyun who appeared in Parasite BUT SUICIDED because of the korean prosecution .
I'm just copy pasting an explaination I saw under another video:
The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...
This song feels like some kind of premonition because Taehyung was sent to the front lines, they took him out of what would be the city's special forces and now he's in the training center closest to the border where it's colder, much more isolated and the training and much stricter... praying for TaeTae...😫😫😫
