- The 2010 Eurovision Song Contest was held in the capital of Norway, Oslo. 39 countries took part in the contest, which had two Semi-Finals and a Grand Final.
Thirty-nine countries took part in the 2010 contest, which was produced under the slogan Share the Moment. Georgia returned after a one year absence whilst Andorra, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Montenegro all withdrew. Lithuania originally announced its withdrawal from the competition, but was later among the 39 participants confirmed by the EBU. The global financial crisis was affecting many participating broadcasters at the time and many withdrawals were due to budgetary constrains.
The interval act involved a flashmob including participants from across Europe. The outdoor footage was intercut with webcam footage from individual private households - Europe really was sharing the moment.
While she had been the main favourite to win for months, still, the victory of Lena for Germany with her song Satellite still came as a total surprise for many. Her simplistic performance gathered votes across Europe and became one of the biggest hits in Europe.

Many good songs were performed that night, but Turkey's was just in another league. Just for the time of their performance, you would forget that you were watching Eurovision, it turned to a full-on maNga concert show. Awesome staging and camera works as well. They might not have won the 1st prize that night, but they definitly won many fans' hearts. 11 years later, I still love their music.
i haven't seen all songs, but it appears to me that the turkish song was the only one who made a concert show and i think this is not what the eurovision is or was about. the song indeed is good but it was maybe the wrong contest for this song.

This was the Eurovision with one of the worst stages. Feels like something out of the 70s. Cheap. Other than that, it was a good Eurovision.

OMG, I remember this show so vividly. This was the very first time I heard about Eurovision. I was an italian student on Erasmus in Turkey and my roommate was a huge fan. I remember watching the semifinals with her and loving every song, every single bit of this show. I remember we were rooting for Turkey and Israel. On the grand final night, I watched part of the show with my friend and then I did, just like Jean Valjean in Hugo's words, "a crime I was already not capable to commit anymore": I went off to dancing with some other friends, leaving her to watch the final alone (8 years later I would decline an invitation to a bachelorette party in order to stay at home and watch ESC).
I came back very late, bringing over a couple of friends, crept in our bed and woke her up to ask her about the result. She kicked the three of us on the ankles, and half whispered, half roared that Germany had won, Turkey had been robbed and Israel had come bottom 5. Gosh, she was so mad, and I was not the roommate everyone would love to have that night. But every year we write to each other on Facebook during the ESC week to discuss and comment it.

@@Greenballoffire that are two different types of songs, from turkey and germany. the german song more a traditional vocal eurovision song while the turkey is more a rock song and relys a lot of the muscial instruments. wouldnt say turkey has been robbed. both are nice in their ways.

Turkey deserved to win. Without getting even 1 points from half of the countries, but still becoming 2nd is already a victory. Lena and her song was promoted so well that year. That's why she won, not because having an outstanding song or performance. Her song is not a Euphoria (which was promoted well too but a great song).

People probably only voted for her cause she was cute, our Eric Saade even sort of admitted it saying that he was nervous when he gave those 12 points to Germany.

My first and and still favourite Eurovision. So many legendary songs, with Alexander Rybak and the entries from Spain, Moldova, Turkey, Germany, France and Albania.

@@lorofcb3 Rybak did a pretty exciting version of 2009's winning song at the start of 2010. Did you all notice, how at the beginning where they showed videos of people representing each country, Rybak was featured for Norway but right under Belarus? Cool nod to his heritage.

Örneğin 2018 birincisi. Kıbrıs'ın Fuego'su varken Netta mı hak etti kazanmayı? Ama oldu işte, oluyor. Bu kadar kompleksli olmayın. Türkiye bu yarışmada gayet de iyi sıralarda gezdi. Hep finalde oldu.

Turkey had an incredibly tacky, outdated and angsty emo song that aged like milk. Besides, it was terrible in its own genre (rock) by any objective standard and the rap bits were laughably inept. It finished 2nd in the televote thanks to the massive Turkish diaspora and 7th with the jury votes so its fans should be happy it finished as high as it did.
Lena on the other hand had a great and radio-friendly pop song that stood out in a sea of tacky, ethnic and joke entries that dominated the 2000s. Her win was significant and changed the direction Eurovision was going in. She paved the way for other great winners such as Loreen, Emmelie, Conchita, Mans and Duncan.
