toyota motors are almost always limited to increase lifespan. kill those limiters and they do pretty damn well. just look at how far you can push them with mods. look at the 3cyl on the new Yaris and Corolla. Non invasive tuning gets it to over 500hp.
As a 3rd gen Tacoma owner for quite sometime now I think they need to definitely improve the speed. And I don’t mean make it a race car because that’s not what it is, but trucks are getting faster and Toyota should acknowledge that. 1. Fix the transmission. Add more gears or do something so it doesn’t keep searching and it’ll get better mpg. 2. Add an ecoboost-like system to it for more torque. If they can perfect those things, Tacoma will remain a big predator.
I think they just need to add more low end torque some how and re gear the transmission to make shift more efficiently. Eco Boost would be nice on some models but something i personally wouldn't go for and I wouldn't want to add more gears or go to CVT transmission. Both commonly have problems

Toyota has always been hilariously underpowered since they've been making cars. They added turbo's to the Tacoma but that didn't work cause now they have turbo issues lol oh Toyota, give it up.
But most durable than others
And you know that’s why Toyota is so reliable because their engines are under powered and over built
@@issavibez394 Nah, still in shops getting repaired.
@@issavibez394 its rated below average in Reliability which durability are you talking fangirl
@@christ2054 some toyotas are quick tho especially lexus same thing but bit different lexus has some fast cars like rcf
Hard to believe in this day and age that Toyota is still building such sluggish vehicles. The technology to build speed, reliability, and efficiency does exist.
toyota motors are almost always limited to increase lifespan. kill those limiters and they do pretty damn well.
just look at how far you can push them with mods.
look at the 3cyl on the new Yaris and Corolla. Non invasive tuning gets it to over 500hp.
I've seen chair lifts move faster than that tacoma. Toyota needs to upgrade the drivetrain.
No doubt the Taco is the slowest of all.
Most definitely need a longer trans. They've got a 10 speed on the Highlander, i believe.
the 6 speed is just super old at this point.
i have the second gen 5 speed and you have to get the gears perfectly times to get any power.
As long as it's sales reminds high, Toyota will do nothing.
@@emmanuelmedina2740 I disagree that they need a longer trans. Just adjusting the gear ratio would fix alot of the problems
@@ManDeLorean9 a lot. Sure, but not most.
Why even stop at fixing things instead of improving on them?
'Dont fix it if it ain't broke' only goes so far, especially when the competition is leaving you in the dust as far as drivetrains go
Stock raptor vs underdog
The Tacoma is such a pooch
Put that santa cruz on e85. Would smoke you all.
Respect to the trx! Such a beast!
Should have added a Honda Ridgeline.
Locker and traction off in the Santa Cruz. You can’t rev the duel clutch on a launch. I just wonder how the little truck will do against a stock raptor
Only way that 6 cylinder raptor will stand a chance against that supercharged V8 TRX is with upgraded turbos
That's exactly what it needs. Efr 6258 will gitr done.
And likely a fuel injector upsize to match the turbos and bigger fuel pump he’s already got in there.
100% - set of PowerMax turbos and the Raptor wins all day. The suspension needs to be setup better too if it’s racing on pavement, the stock springs are so soft
Would of been good time have maverick eco 2.0 Turbo against the cruz
I don't think that Ford is putting down the power he's claiming. At 650hp in a significantly lighter truck, that race should have been a photo finish.
Ppl who mod their vehicles are nearly always full of crap. And are always full of crap without a dyno sheet
I think he just takes it places to get work done but doesn't really know. 500-520whp with a 20% loss doesn't get you 650-675 crank.
@@EGGINFOOLS 650 - 20% is 520 lol. Stock Ford advertises 450 and they make 330. 🤷♂️
@@brynnstevens8113 really weird. My calculator says something different. Must be the timezones
those taller tires killed the Raptor.. like to see that race again with stock diameter tires
Honda: We can build a pretend truck better than anyone.
Hyundai: Hold my seltzer!
This was very cool to see, puts even more WOW factor on what Ram has really accomplished with the TRX. It’s pretty impressive they can even take down respectably fast modified trucks like that Raptor in less than stock form with that extra weight and crazy head wind…
Stock is 100,000 dollars fast in a straight line highway only truck. It’s kinda like everything else dodge/ram (fiat) makes one trick pony that’s fast in a straight line. Raptor is for off-roading not being quick in a straight line. We’ll see who’s fastest when the raptor r srops
Yes the trx is one impressive truck. Easily beats the raptor. Those poor ford fans lol.
So painting that Toyota dog of truck green didn’t make it any less embarrassing slow?
Roman took Andre to Gapplebees in that first race.
Super cool!! Great races guys!
I'd like to see you do a review of 6x6 Ram from SOFLO Jeeps. Actually the Jeep also. Like to see them off road.
Why haven't you gotten a gen 3 turbo Tacoma or supercharged. There are some out there.
Because they are still slow as 💩 even with the factory supercharger. 🐌
@@czar2321 Gen 3 never had a factory supercharger. Magnuson makes one now. The twin turbo ones are fast, but not reliable. That stupid engine design of the 3.5. I still rather the 4.0.
@@jaytrock3217 my opinion...Toyota should use the new Tundra mill for the Tacoma and 4Runner
@@jaytrock3217 the 3.5 flows much more air at high rpm than the 4.0 does and after tuning it’s able to out performs the 4.0s torque curve.
@czar the tunes that come with the supercharger kits are garbage. Their tune is heavily dialed back for reliability and only makes like 360hp. i had one in last week that I was able to tune to 420Hp on 7Lbs 93 octane. That was just tuning alone with their supercharger system.
Thumbs down for not throwing in a Ford Ranger.
the tacoma needs a turbo or a super charger.... enough is enough...
The 4 cyl turbo should be sigificantly quicker as in about a full second in the 1/4. Example is 240hp turbo 2.0 accord is a full second quicker than 300hp n/a 3.5 camry.
Laughable part of taco 3.5 with 40 hp more than last engine (4.0) is that it's slower...proves flat torque is really what matters. Also explains why peaky 5.7 hemi in ram trucks doesn't perform up to it's hp and torque numbers.
The taco needs a regear haha
the raptor is the bunny 🐰 hop addition? that thing has crazy bouncing.
TRX is super cool. I never knew
Toyota, come on man!!! That taco is pathetic.
Santa cruz
The Tacoma power has always been its Achilles heel…..so rubber bandy weird. I bought an Auto years ago, but wish I got the manual…..
just needs a tune. 40 peak hp increase and 50-60 hp and 30-40 ft lb gain in lower rev range. Ovs and d3 offer their software for $600. Once you’re tuned the autos actually better. it shifts faster and holds more power. you can have a reliable but fast taco. just need some extra cash and the know how
Not with the old 4.0. It was a beast in comparison to the shit 3.5
@@nbaldo003 uhh, where did you find those numbers? Tunes are great, but i looked both those up and didnt find dyno results anywhere close to that (peak or under the curve).
TRX is stock. Just sayin.
Toyota good for Miss Daisy.
I'll never understand buying the same type of vehicle with the only reason of...its faster, if your in a racing career its much more understandable...but otherwise your basically buying 100 extra hp for....$70,000...after putting $12,000 worth of tunes & mods in the vehicle you already have. But i guess if you have the money why not right?
