GBRS Group Ballistic Plate Level III ICW & GT Overview & Testing Part 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лис 2024
- In this second segment, we discussed and tested the effectiveness of our soon to be released GBRS Group Level III ICW Ballistic Plates. The Level III ICW (In Conjunction With) plates are meant to be used with soft kevlar. From an end user perspective, we wanted to see how much damage would happen because of the backside deformation without the soft armor.
We did the tests we wanted to see from a random plate they pulled from the lot. No special distance or separation on the rounds, we did the tests that the end users want to see. 7 rounds of green tip into a plate from 5 yards, no issue. That made everyone very comfortable seeing it first hand and knowing the plate stopped it without the soft pack.

Glad you guys spoke about plate positioning.
Spalling is a real thing for starters, and how bullets stirke the plate matters.
People buying armor dont really totally understand in order for that armor to truly be effective, you gotta square up and take the hit straight on for best results.
I heard steel is notorious for spall
@@Token_Black_Guy
It is. IV8888 did a video on this just the other day.
@@Token_Black_Guy Not just that, im fairly sure there was some testing done by a (European if i remember correctly) military with steel plates, and the weight basically meant that you were actually more likely to die by wearing them than not, purely because of the impact on a soldier's mobility and fatigue. Steel armor is for strapping to vehicles, not your torso.
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf what about sword fights?
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf 8LBS per plate is too heavy, regardless of construction, imho
The protection at that weight and form factor is insane. Awesome stuff.
That’s because these are rebranded plates with an inch of foam around the edges.
Weight is totally in realistic range for ICW plates. Hesco 4800 is 4.9lbs for 10x12” Shooter’s Cut, standalone level IV.
@Yuan Zhou and hesco has had more recalls of any American manufacturers for testing failures, likely due to manufacturing inconsistencies and not having a buffer because they make their plates thinner.
Just bought the GBRS Assault belt and all the goodies to set it up could not be happier with the quality I’ve seen so far!
I can only imagine what the cost is going to be. I'm already plotting to see what I can sell to afford these plates. To older vets like myself, 50, and busted up pretty good the weight difference between my existing armor and these will change everything for me. Thanks for the videos
I'm not sure exactly what plate that was but I think it was the $400 3+ plate, shot stop
$400(each)for lv 3 $447 for green tip and $379 for soft armor insert(pair).
I enjoy watching real high speed guys doing tests on equipment. They know what they are looking for in performance. Like “according to their testing that is an unfair hit” and the reply being in the effect of yeah but it’s a real hit possibility. From figment to placement and them actually putting the rounds on the plates. All around good stuff. My favorite though...”fuck it, one more!”
So cool to see this company expanding into different arenas and not hiding anything from the consumer. Literally publishing their testing to the internet for all to see. DJ smiling at the plate after it stops green tip like a fat kid glaring at cake is so authentic lol
As soon as I heard them good ol boys speak, I already knew the plates were going to be next level.
Pretty good video to wake up to and watch. Good information fellas.
GBRS approved. Will not compromise and only the best.
Interested to see some 16" and 20" barrel length tests with good M193 and M855 at 15yds or less 🤔 some of the high velocity 40-45ish grain varmint rounds would also be interesting... If the full diameter base of the projectile remains intact after impact those things can have some surprising effects on armor! especially out of 20-24" barrels... but much less likely to actually encounter than the examples I mentioned previously 😉👍
I definitely get what you are asking but these guys are professionals, their only worry is what they encounter on a regular basis.
@@James_Edward59 The vast majority of AR15s in the US will be 16". If their focus is on training LE atm, 16" would definitely be relevant. Other armor companies seem to test with a 20" barrel, though, so they should be good to go.
@@James_Edward59 until you roll up to a domestic call and some drunken idiot has a bushmaster A4 loaded with greentip... 16" is still the most common, but 20" AR's are not exactly rare! Especially older ones, even pre ban versions that were stolen or transferred upon the death of the original owner.
Those varmint rounds are screaming fast, but they lose velocity like no other.
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf @Berry Reading I can see where you two are coming from but the majority of LEO’s will be coming into contact with criminals. Most criminals and drug raids, they come across SBR’s or Pistols with regular ball ammo. Also, when I said “what they encounter on a regular basis”, I was talking about in their former career as Operators because they also still train Military as well as LEO’s.
Would’ve liked to see the results out of a standard 16” barrel rather than hoping the enemies are running 10.3”. Significantly different velocities.
I don’t know but I like hearing DJ just talk I could listen to his stories all day long lol
Of course the AK was gold. Loving it guys.
It just seems like Its been a long time since there has been a breath of fresh air out here. Stay the Course GBRS I like breathing fresh air
Those are some life savers right there! Impressive isn't enough said!
Can’t wait to purchase those & the optic risers for all my rifles.
Waiting on the riser myself.
Looking forward to your plates hitting the market.
@@NOMADPLUSOFFICIAL GBRS trains civs. I would expect them to support civs having this armor because we can and we should have it. Just like how every other armor company does
@@NOMADPLUSOFFICIAL how long ago. He recently said they do. I'm very sure I just heard them say the do like 2 videos ago
Found GBRS from watching DJ’s interview with Shawn Ryan. Thank you for my freedom sir.
I’ll be looking for plate options from GBRS…and I thought they always used the impact of a round to stamp their logos onto soft goods
Keep up the good work great knowledge for anymore trying to learn more! Your all the best
The Red, White, and Blue plate carrier is from Shellback Tactical. They are out of stock though. Somehow I completely missed who is making the plates though.
Thank you for all the knowledge 🙏 these knowledge transfers videos are the best 👌
Great content as always!
Sounds like a game changer!
Wow! The technology has gotten crazy!
So where are these plates at the GBRS store?
When are these going to be available? I'm looking to get a new set of plates. Very interested. I'm impressed with the capacity and at the range you are shooting them at
So what is the difference in helping the back face deformation between the soft armor ICW or a normal trama pad or airflow padding from like lbt or (insert your favorite manufacture)?
Incredible stuff
Always looking fwrd for these videos, awesome content.
Awesome content as always guys, keep Killin' it!
Getting into the already saturated body armor market is tough. Going to have either beat prices or weight of other company’s offerings.
That's the one thing that Steel has going for it over the Ceramic and Poly-composite plates is the greatly reduced kinetic transfer to the body, there's no need for a backer or trauma pad with them, but the obvious caveats of weight, and the mildly concerning aspect of skipping/ deflecting rounds coming along with (though with some well made AR550 plates and their often proprietary catch-coatings that's greatly reduced, i've done design and testing with systems like that in the past for 2 different companies).
Nice job researching, developing, and testing this stuff, certainly a good looking product that will hold up in such a competitive industry.
Good comment… I always wondered what it would feel like under the armor. “Ball ping hammer “
This is a promising development.
even more important to practice on face shots
Boys I love the content I'm going bak and rewatching every video!!! I am curious tho what kind of Oakleys is DJ wearing those are absolutely sick!!!
Never mind I found them but keep up the great content it’s super interesting!
Dirty skivvies! That label transferred like mamas ring! :) Thanks GBRS!
the plates now are so mush lighter and can handle so much more. They would actually be something you could wear while still being able to stay moving and burning along without the drag of a bulky 8lb plate.
I've heard through the grapevine Dayton Armor is producing lightweight level 4 Armor for the Varsity Team....pricey stuff 😳
Been wanting another set of plates to replace my current set. Looking forward to these dropping.
Give Bob a raise! 😉
Trauma pads are to absorb the blunt force Trauma from the impact.
Not bad, you gotta beat HESCO on weight or price, because they already make proven, trusted armor.
Please do your own research
Hesco has failed 4 NIJ FIT safety audit tests (on the 3610, 3400, 4600 and 4400), subsequent re-tests resulted in the 3610 and 4600 being recalled. I don't think most people are aware of how serious this is.
@@AsherEquipped yeah, more like they need to beat RMA
@@TacoTory556 problem is is how bad Hesco qc is. Which is sad how people just blindly trust hesco.
@@TacoTory556 Okay, but what would happen if someone got shot with a plate before it was recalled and died? Glad they recalled and made it good, but seriously having 4 recalls in less the 6 years is HORRIBLE.
@@ACGBLR My understanding from CALLING Hesco is that there were material changes from suppliers that led to the failures. Material can still pass QC, but due to manufacturing changes from suppliers, it can alter a design enough to effect ballistics. It’s not so black and white as people speculating would like to assume. Regardless, they weren’t hiding or deceiving anyone, and went way outside of what was required to upgrade to better models.
East Tennessee! Good video guys, I keep saying it! Yalls shit is on fire 🔥!🇺🇲☝️🤘
I have what ib could afford but there's a good chance my big a55 will be picking those up in the future
Outstanding
I dont know if anyone else noticed but they are shooting shellback tactical plate carriers. GBRS has never talked about that company and doesnt use their plate carriers. Why would they have those to shoot unless the company making the plates brought them?
I got the first like heck yeah
rip
I am so fuck’n glad I haven’t bought new plates yet. Gett’n these ASAP.
Nice stuff guys
My level 4 plates are to dang heavy..I will definitely check them out👍
So the reason I don’t like the backers is the sweat makes it suck wearing it everyday. I have a plate breather behind mine.
That's a dope plate carrier 🇺🇸💪🙂
You can tell cole hates all this camera shit haha
you could’ve just got the hoplite 23620 it’s stand alone
Great video
Count me in!
Damn those plates are crazy
I’m curious as to the BFD also the NIJ standards need big reform like acknowledging special threat calibers and in my opinion other certifications for armour being able to take rounds with less than 25 to 22mm of BFD. Being an idea of the top of my head. Not the 44mm standard.
The nij standards are about to change. We're waiting but it's already kinda out
Hey guys great plates!!! When will the plate that stops green tip hit the market would love to go from a 4.4# plate to a 3# plate.
Outstanding!
I can only assume this is Smith Defense body armor?
What about the mount you guys using (at about 2:00min). Can you give some info on it? Great content, just do more ;)
Never clicked a video so fast in my life
Question that we're all wondering: which company is the OEM for these?
That is the scary part. The label says "location of manufacturer: USA" which is about as plain as plain can be. Any real company and manufacturer will put the city and state.
I think it's shotstop. That's what ferro uses and I've seen GBRS test them in vids before.
@@charlieghague It does have some similar specs as SSB, which is unfortunate because they're such a shady company. DuRiTiUm is just the way polyethylene is set up. Pretty much like weaving a basket. You can read their public patent and see that, but they make it sound to be a big thing, which it's just marketing hype.
@@cc-vg4ed why does that make them shady? Doesn't sound like they're lying about it if easy to find. Using Duritium doesn't matter if it works and their stuff works.
@@charlieghague shotstop was caught replacing part of the plate with over 1” of foam around the edges, they still do it, and they’re why nobody respectable recommends their garbage
GBRS, if you want to see the backface damage, you might want to use clay and not a rubber dummy…..just saying.
In their teaser for this series they had images with actual dummies with organs and bones so next video maybe.
Likely they already know what that damage is like, that's what the soft padding backer is for, to absorb some of that damage
@JustAnotherTowerClimber They only served 18 years each, more than half of that in Tier 1
@@zach1972 Well, that padding is just for that plate. A III in conjunction with a level IIIA backer, is there to make sure the backface deformation is less than 44mm. With out that back, the BFD would far exceed that parameter.
Just because they guys were sf, doesn’t mean they are experts on all things. There are a lot of snake oil salesman in the armor industry. So take what they say with a grain of salt. Don’t take it as gospel.
@@zach1972 only
💪 knowledge transfer
I'd stick w/ level 4 but didn't the guy say it wasn't rated for m855 but it stopped it?
It's just not certified yet. From what he said anyway. Those are great plates though.
That was a different plate.
Every time you guys post something I learn. I'm really getting into to your company and I'm about ready to bite the bullet and finally buy some equipment that's not Crye Precision or Haley Strategic haha!
Damn, impressive!
Curious to see your opinion on the Soft armor rifle rated plates on the market now.
man, i wish i could afford the PE plates
I have those plates and DJ is exactly right they don't fit without the backer.
What kind of plates are they?
@@matthewtaylor9065 read description
@@draleigh8881 The description doesn't say who manufactures them.
@@cc-vg4ed haha your trolling right? GBRS GROUP..... they'll be coming soon haha this is the testing.
@@draleigh8881 so you think GBRS Group is the one manufacturing these? So they spent millions of dollars to open a manufacturing facility to make body armor? You do realize there are only a handful of actual manufacturers in the USA that make ceramic/poly plates. Google "white label"
GBRS when are these available? Those were 10x12 (medium) shooter cut correct?
They sent some out and people found out that they were faulty and not what was show in this video so the stopped production and have gone radio silent since then
Was wondering when you were gonna have these plates for sale?
Any idea when these plates are going to be available again?
Doesnt dayton armor at the same size provide the same protection at a lower weight? These must cost significantly less
From what I've heard, dayton's plates suffer from pretty severe backface deformation and that's why they aren't certified
@@ChevTecGroup you are right, when m855 was tested, they had 36mm of backface deformation. When 44mm is considered a failure, that is a little too close.
@@ChevTecGroup I figured there was some reason why, otherwise theyd be all for it im sure
Love the GBRS videos! Me and my buddy watch them as soon as they come out. One question. Who manufactures the plates used in this video? Would love to buy from them!
When are the Gbrs plates going to be available I want one for sure!
Does the military not provide you with plates, or are the ones they supply no good?
Mil plates are certified. We get level IV AP rated. They are ceramic and heavy.

Cool, new video.
What kind of plates are they.? And more importantly how much?
Two Panerais on set today? Nice.
Now I wonder how much these going to be running
Good information my brothers 👌 as always the information is out there and I gathered it over the years from my own training and others it really comes down to supporting the Chanels and Co. I believe in most....L&R ....ONE MIND ANY WEAPON......
Amazing life saving stuff man amazing content
Just in time for Green Tip (M855) to become totally irrelevant. Basically 1970’s ballistic technology. 855A1/M80A1 will carve through just about anything below Level IV at CQ distances. Green Tip is basically the official round of the LARPer today.
When are you boys going to offer these for sale?
Out of ignorance or possibly misunderstanding, why would one opt for a polyethylene NIJ III ICW that weighs around 3.9lbs without the backer? When there’s Stand Alone Multi Hit NIJ IV plates that meet NIJ .06 that weigh roughly 6lbs from Hesco that weigh 4.9lbs? I love what GBRS has been doing, however I’m confused why they don’t go with a buoyant multi hit 10x12 stand alone IV from Hesco….
which level IV plate from hesco is buoyant? Level IV plates have a decent thickness ceramic so none of them float.
Audio seems a little wierd on this one.
This came up in my feed. Very cool technology coming abroad. I get center mass. My question is this. Why ony that size plate? It would appear your abdomen is exposed. Take a round to the stomach and thats pretty quick septic set in. Thank you to the WHOLE group for your service. I greatly (more than ANY words can be said) being able to carry on my day as a free man. Stay safe and be well.
Crazy that no matter how much things change they still stay the same. During the middle age, knights and men and arms would out on arming jackets then chain mail and finally their plate armor. Remove the chain mail and beef up the armor plate. And just cut the jacket down to match the plate.
Wear can we get the plates when your done with the test
DanBet Helical 3D printing with mafron woven ceramic is the next approach. The micro helical voids will be infused with graphite for energy dispersion and mass collapse containment
But not very many know if this concept. Screen shot this. It’ll be coming to a clandestine market near you within 20 months
Living in Europe... this technology just became pretty much real shit to consider in the last week. How much would this set me, and others considering it, back money wise?
Shawn Ryan said once that green tip is bullshit and "it's actually pretty detrimental". But hey if the plate is rated for a certain round and it takes it without failing, it doesn't really matter.
So shawn had contradicted himself?
You cant argue video proof
Where is a good place to get the backer?????
I wonder how it would hold up if bubba and his 22" ar shows up
