Another great vid, many thanks. Good lines, and smooth. Some laps with a really good instructor would likely yield solid reduction in lap times. Fun helmet cam angle. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks! That's really cool that you recognized us. We had just finished a track day at Raceway Park. Your restaurant is awesome, best guacamole I've had in a while, had to order two 👍
Interesting content. I bought a 2017 Z06 Z07 with stage 3 aero installed a couple months ago and was wondering how much of an effect the aero has on acceleration. Clearly for the street, I need to dial back to stage 1 aero as stage 3 isn't doing any favors for straight-line (or fuel economy LOL). I did one track day at Gateway near STL with the Z06 with stage 3 aero installed. Compared to my 2023 CT5-V Blackwing, the Vette would enter the front straight about 5mph faster coming off of the banked oval but couldn't break 140mph before braking for turn 1. My 5BW was slower entering the straight but hit as high as 143mph before I got into the binders for turn 1. So clearly the Z06's aero is helping it in corners but hurting it in the straights. My best laptop time in the Z06 was 1:12.x whereas my 5BW's best was 1:14.x..
Sweet Z06 I love the video. Best track car under 100k hands down. I think stage 3 Aero is perfect for the Z06 unless you are running 1/4 mile events and trying to go 8's then it's no good.
I’d always go stage 3. If I had a car fast enough to require downforce on a track that is. Maybe on the TTRS I’ll do something like that, but I won’t be running a big wing until I’ve fully upgraded the powertrain of the car. What a sound from the Z06 by the way. It accelerates really fast, and the gearing from 3rd to 4th is real short, and my Passat is the same way surprisingly. It gets it to speed without losing so much torque, but my car maxes out without speed limiter at the end of 4th gear, at just 120 mph, 12 above the previous factory speed cutoff. I do like the amount of race displays the corvette C7 has. Tracking your lap times, acceleration times, and also the cool race mode display it uses. It’s the American track car. 1:34 is not bad with your tire setup and first time on the track setup. Hope you feel better man I just got over a 2 week cold and respiratory infection lol. That shit sucks. Nice video as always. Good to know you are a fan of Batman
Yeah me too. I leave the Stage 3 because it looks pretty bad ass too. I only bring it back to Stage 1 if I know I am going to a straight line event. The TTRS would be a monster on the track too. I wish I had the chance to take the one I drove to NJMP or even my home track. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears in the Z06 are all very short and sweet. But 5th gear is long AF and that's the Achilles' Heel here. Have you tried a top speed run in the Passat? 120MPH seems a tad low for 205HP. I think even the Abarth in stock form can hit 132 given the space. I like that modern cars have all the timers now but I still don't trust it as much as I trust my VBOX and dedicated GPS loggers. Must be something going around. Lots of people have been all effed up these past few weeks with some crazy cold.
Track Day TV the VW won’t get past 120 due to it being front wheel drive. Simply is a drivetrain pulling the car against the air that just doesn’t work with physics, but works against it. This is why you don’t see any front wheel drive cars going over 160 mph even in 2019, and AWD cars not getting to 200 mph for the same reason. Top speed is best set with a RWD car, because it’s pushing the car through the air. This is why the Koenigsegg Agera is able to go so fast. The same goes for the Venom GT. The Chiron and Veyron use the W16, and it takes 4 turbochargers combined with 16 cylinders to get the car to 250 mph. It isn’t that they’re heavy, it’s that they’re AWD. But the Agera RS is RWD, and so is the Venom GT, using half of the amount of boost modules and half the amount of cylinders and they are getting near 300 mph easily. FWD is absolutely terrible for top speed, and it doesn’t really matter how much power you put into a FWD car. It simply just doesn’t work with physics. That 5th gear on the corvette must blow. You should try to get a TCU tune for the car. It’d be easily tunable being an automatic, and you could maybe even dyno Tune your gearing as well, and adjust the gearing ratios to accommodate for that 5th gear. Instead of starting 5th at 4,500 rpm, you can tune it to start more in the V8 band of about 5,500. It’s expensive though, but that’s just expensive to someone like me lol, 18 years old with an entry level professional job
That makes a lot of sense. I never put 2 and 2 together and thought of it that way but I guess you learn something new every day. I've only owned one FWD car in my life and it's my first car which was a 95 Nissan Maxima lol. I sold it to my cousin, but I think it still runs and I should do a video on that. Maybe next April 1st 😄 It's not terrible simply because there's so much power to get you through it, but it does suck in comparison to the first 4 gears were it's just gear after gear. However, you want to avoid any sort of tune in general with GM, because they are sticklers for voiding your warranty for any reason they can find. Plus they are specifically targeting tunes because that's the first thing they dig for when you bring your car in for any repair work under warranty. A TCU tune on the car isn't as bad as you think (I think it was a few hundred bucks last time I checked) but you would need to physically change the ratios to really make a difference. It's still American and it's not nearly as bad as tuning a European or Italian car.
Track Day TV still runs? Wow that’s great There are tuning companies in Texas that will craft you new gears based on how you tune them via a simulation software that determines the results of the new gearing in comparison to the old gearing. It’s expensive shit but really cool. And see, every car I buy, I really don’t care for warranty because I’ll have other options to choose from without that putting me in warranty prison, but I guess it’s just because I’m not a wise adult yet and don’t see the importance in it. At least i see some importance in a 401k which I’ve already started. I did ask a couple shops if they’d dyno tune my car and they declined, saying my car doesn’t have enough power capability, even when the crankshaft is actually forged, which I just found out yesterday. The Audi TTRS has the exact same motor as my car, everything is forged except for the aluminum block, different intake manifold and hoses, but everything inside the block is exactly the same actually. It’s just boosted. Still #1 on my dream car list! Anyways, was nice chatting as always. I’m going to see avengers endgame right now. sadly one big bombshell spoiler has been dropped on my face, so I know sort of who we lose in the movie, but I’ll do my best to enjoy it. Cya in the next vid
Yup, 150K miles, two minor accidents and a few dozen neutral bombs later, it's still going. I usually don't care for warranties on slightly cheaper cars like my Abarth 124. But on the Z06, no matter which way you cut the cake, it'll cost you 12-15K if you blow an engine. Don't ask me how I know lol. I'm not big on giving out financial advice on a car channel, but start saving early, it pays off in the long run for sure. Enjoy Avengers, I'm going to have to wait at least til the weekend, I hate crowded theaters. Reminds me, I still have to watch Shazam. Cheers buddy 🤙
@Rleader1 Thanks, I think it certainly did, although it’s hard to analyze the affect from traction loss on the VBOX, I included the 70-130 and 80-130 in this case because it looked like it hooked from about 65 onward.
I noticed you kept the front at the stage 3 aero the whole time .. Bec the stage 1 front aero is diff than the stage 2 and 3 aero .. it’s the tiny little lip so your test is by way of swapping the rear wicker only ?
It’s great to see the C7 Z06 on track. More of that ( and the cars you tested too, like the tuned TT RS ). Please! Some questions: Didn’t you get a remap or chip tuning to take full advantage with the other upgrades ? Would you consider to get some aero upgrades from the ZR1? I think even on the most extreme configuration the Z06 still needs downforce. Oh! The data you showed in the video is hard to keep in mind, so it’s great when you at the end summarize all that for comparision. Thanks👍🏻
Thanks for the comment! Definitely going to have more track videos now that the season opened up. To answer you questions: No, I didn't remap or tune the car because GM is a real PITA when it comes to tunes and because I track it so much, I want to retain the factory warranty in the event that something happens. Also those mods are within the parameters of the factory tune so it can adjust for them. I don't think I'll be getting more aggressive aero in terms of something like a big wing, but maybe the ZR1 bumper for better cooling.
considering this do you think there will be as much of a straight line acceleration difference with the c8 z06 base model compared to their most track focused version?
Hey Dan, I can tell you have good driving skills and a lot of courage! I assume you've tracked other cars before. Do you think you would get more out of a lower performance car that you could push closer to the limit? The Z06 is such a beast that you have to lift early. Also do you follow Formula One?
Thanks! I do track semi-regularly (at least once a month if weather permits). Depends on the car and track, for this particular track, the Z06 actually does fairly well on and you can easily see the limits of the car here with the proper sized balls. People have broken 1:30 with the same car but I do stand by the motto that it's easier to drive a slow car fast and if you take something like a prepped Miata or even something in the M2 Competition level, you could push it to 10/10ths, no problem. However, in my observation, it would be hard for those cars to beat a 1:30 time in stock or OEM+ form (unless highly built), even driven to the limit. Unfortunately, I don't. I tried, but I just couldn't stick to it.
Well technically, it’s more like S1.5 in my opinion. The S3 rear spoiler is an easy 8 bolt situation where you can just remove them and put the S1 winglets on. The front is a little more annoying. But all you need to do is turn the wheel side to side to get the S3 winglets off and boom, it’s practically almost the same as the stage 1 splitter. Most of the time I just leave the front winglets on because it’s just too much of a pain and take off the rear for high speed straight line runs.
Not sure about the running lean part, I ran it all way down to the fuel light and it seemed okay. A few other Vette guys I know do the same. The PTB the ported throttle body and according to a lot of people, it helps with the throttle delay and makes the input more responsive. They say there is no peak HP gain, but in my tests, I found an improvement in straight line acceleration as well more mid-range punch. Easy to do and relatively inexpensive ($150-350 depending on vendor). Some people actually have gone so far as to put a ported LT5 (ZR1) throttle body on this car and have seen even more gains.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Cool thanks for the PTB explanation, I guess for M7 it doesn't apply. For drag racing they say you don't want to race with less than 1/4 tank of gas, it will run lean sometimes. I think it's worse for road course racing since fuel is splashed all over the tank, I tried HPDE once and with half tank it actually showed 1/4. Hopefully more people will chime in but one track day or twice you wont' notice it right away.
Actually, it supposed help equally as much with the M7. I originally got it for my M7 and after I replaced it with the A8, I put it on this one. I don't know much about the whole fuel situation, but I personally think it's good practice to keep it above 1/4 tank as well.
I prefer to paddle shift because it allows me a little more control. I tried leaving it in Auto, going into Performance Shift Mode, and letting the car do its thing, but it felt a little awkward at times and perhaps not conducive to my driving style. Also I think paddles help with reducing overheating tendencies.
I’d work on the throttle inputs, and you Gould be able to brake deeper into the turn. Try late wording some of those turns and you should be able to carry more speed through them. Great vid.
Thanks for the suggestions. I know there was a bit more left in the car and myself, but being my first time around this course, I wanted to take it "sorta" easy. My goal is to break into sub-1:30 this summer.
Great vid bro! I have a '15 C7 Z51 Supercharger with an ECS blower and 8 psi putting down 542 rwhp 534 rwtq. Id love to race a stock stage 1 aero C7 Z06 A8 and see what would happen!!
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Lol no im down in the hot South in Georgia. Hopefully i can find some competition at the dragstrip's and 1/2 mile events down here. Keep up the great content bro. High quality material
It got a little hairy but it was all under control 😉. That's a tricky corner though, sort of long sweeper into a decreasing radius and that can really test the car/driver.
Yeah, they closed the drag strip but they still have the road course and the rest of the park going. Sad really, I live 10 min from there and that was my childhood.
That sucks man, I hope it gets sorted out soon. Hate the feeling of the car not running right. On a side note, with 1000HP, you should have a lot more left in it than 160MPH.

Still can’t believe no one has come out with a way to increase the speed of the paddle response yet.

I purchased extensions that go on top of the paddles. To actually swap them out requires steering wheel removal which is a PITA.
Track Day TV oh okay cool they look really great. I'm guessing there aluminum?
Yup, I believe they are aluminum or perhaps some form of metal. They feel much better than tapping on the plastic stock paddles.
Idk how you havent blown up yet
Thanks! I'm always down. Are you in the Northeast?
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Lol no im down in the hot South in Georgia. Hopefully i can find some competition at the dragstrip's and 1/2 mile events down here. Keep up the great content bro. High quality material
3:06 you over steered and almost spun her around. But otherwise it was a good video, looks like a fun track day.
It got a little hairy but it was all under control 😉. That's a tricky corner though, sort of long sweeper into a decreasing radius and that can really test the car/driver.
When I was with my Z51 3lt, EVEN COROLLA DROVE FASTER THAN ME ! Pugai
😄😄😄
I herd Englishtown finally shut down ! you need to get the flock out of NJ and come to LV or West Coast ! NJ is screwed now.
Yeah, they closed the drag strip but they still have the road course and the rest of the park going. Sad really, I live 10 min from there and that was my childhood.
Airbag deployment would be potentially lethal.
I thought the same thing as I was going through the footage.
is that in god forsaken NJ ? bring that bad boy to Willow or Seca in CALI and it will be happy !
Yes California!!!!
Bishhhhhh I'm batman 🤣🤣
Still waiting for that Tesla on the track video!
Blew my z06 on 1/2 mile racing. We were in 2nd place until kaput. trapping near 160 mph on crap 91 and meth
That sucks man, I hope it gets sorted out soon. Hate the feeling of the car not running right. On a side note, with 1000HP, you should have a lot more left in it than 160MPH.
The voice over delivery is WAY too dramatic.
First time on the channel? I'm literally dying of a cold and trying to be as "undramatic" as possible in this video.
First time and last time apparently. I've been subscribing to pretty much every automotive enthusiast channel and your dramatic voice monologue literally gave me the chills in embarrassment. Take the hit and move on.
Can't win 'em all ✌
Not with extreme pretentiousness no. Let the cars be the stars because they are.@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy
@@umiami80 So let me get this straight, you watched one video of this dude where he narrated cuz he was sick (clearly mentioned it in the last part of the video), and then you proceed to tell him that his private YT channel is trash despite him gaining tens of thousands of subscribers with this kind of content in a matter of months. Bruh, c'mon, that's some haterade or just plain ignorance. You must be really feeling some sort of way based on these comments.
