From someone who has worked and volunteered in Rio's favelas and met and married his wife from a favela, I can tell you that the U.S. embassy would have done fuck all to revenge your death. My wife and I saved our little Brazilian nephew from a gangland slaying after he foolishly lost one of the "Chefe's" M16 assault rifles, (it's a long story.) They wanted $25,000 for the rifle or his head. If the Chefe hadn't of grown up with his aunt then they would have killed him. He was put to work from midnight to 6am selling crack to pay off the rifle. Most favelas in Rio are controlled by the Comando Vermelho or the Policia mineira. These people are at war with each other. In the favela they say, "Andar com a boca de Siri." This means; "walk with the mouth of a crab." Meaning: keep your mouth shut and mind your own business. Sir, with all due respect, you are excited by all the sexy women and the "cool scene" but learn to speak Portuguese and have more humility. These people are wonderfully creative and passionate but many of them suffer a great deal of oppression and violence. Brazil is all fun and games until someone rubs someone the wrong way or they decide to BURN YOU two ways to HELL and back. Se cuida Malandragem!!
