Elliot, I'm from Austria, 65, and Your enthusiasm remembers me of myself, when I started collecting movies at the age of about 20. At this time ist was S8, VHS (mäh..), later LDs, DVDs, HDVDs and BDs. Always with the intent to upgrade "only my most beloved" movies (which became of course more and more over the many years) - and at the same time broadening my interests. Now I count about 5000 different movies in my collection (still buying physical media although I do streaming as well). At the end I see myself running out of space and (!) lifetime. So many movies to watch, but so little time left. But: it IS a wonderful hobby. Did I mention, the I collect music too? You are right, it's the best of all times for a collector; I envy You that You can start Your collection with BD/UHD and so many choices of wonderful labels... Enjoy! And: Thanks for a lot of good tipps, You gave me in Your nice videos...
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! It sounds like you have a wonderful collection from decades of film loving. I hope to be here at 65, still enjoying movies as much as I do today. And collecting is a great way to discover new works of art, whether movies, music, books, etc. Cheers!
I really love what you're doing here, both in terms of collecting physical media and the way you structure your videos in terms of the details you explore, both for older films and newer released. As such, this video in particular has inspired me to list my top 10 personal favourite physical media releases in my collection that I am proud of (the only criteria being that it must be 1080P & up--no DVDs). So (in order of importance + rarity) they are: 1.Crash (1996)--Arrow Video restoration (4K ltd. edition/w Poster, art cards & booklet) 2.Ronin (1998)--Arrow Video restoration/w sleeve (I own 2 copies of this; the other is still sealed & looking to sell it) 3.Possession (1981)--Just a very rare-print UK Blu-Ray of an old "Video Nasty" that I paid only £12.00 for 5 years ago. Feel very privileged to own it--especially given the insane markup it currently faces on the 2nd hand market--and anticipate 88 Films/Arrow to remaster it at some point in the future, even though this transfer is more than sufficient. 4.Downfall (2004)--Zavvi Steelbook (in excellent condition) 5.Incendies (2010)--Denis Villeneuve's most underrated film. Currently out of print in the UK; like Possession, I paid next to nothing for this and is now on a much higher markup on the second-hand market. 6.Columbia Classics Vol.1 (I overpaid for this, but not by too much; it's still worth the wait) 7.Columbia Classics Vol.2 (I also overpaid for this one--though nowhere near as much as the first. Not as good as the first collection, but still a damn-good release that I'm very pleased to have gotten my hands on). 8.Blade Runner (1982)--4-disk, 4K ltd. edition, complete with 5 cuts, including: US theatrical cut, International Theatrical Cut, Workprint cut (with the voiceover), Directors Cut, Final Cut & Final Cut on 4K + all of the bonus features ever made & booklet with artwork) 9.The Deer Hunter (1978)--4K ltd. edition/w artcards, booklet, early script, short story it was based on, soundtrack CD, bonus features. 10.Goodfellas (1990)--4K ltd. edition/w hardcase, booklet, art cards & poster
Thank you Elliot! Long time subscriber, but for various reasons I haven’t been collecting films on physical media for years. You helped change my mind. More than that, you’ve expanded my knowledge of cinema. It’s a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there, but your videos are a wonderful guide and keep us up to date. I love how thorough you get into detail about the films and features, even encoding issues/artefacts etc. and all the super fine details. That’s what i look for too. I appreciate having a trustworthy opinion to get into the weeds and help decide what’s most worth purchasing. Keep up the great work mate, it’s so appreciated!! Elliot loves Green Ice 💚🧊
Thank you for showcasing John Ford. If you haven't seen it already, Pete Bogdanovich (director of "The Last Picture Show") created a cheeky, insightful documentary, "Directed by John Ford."
Tinto brass is to the female derriere what Russ Meyer is to the bosom, but with a more cinematic eye. I recently purchased The Train through Kino Lorber's March Madness sale. The last time I watched it was on commercial television many years ago.
The reason why Next Goal Wins took a while to release was that they reshot with Fassbinder replacing Armie Hammer. This was due to the controversy around his lifestyle choices... For what it's worth it's a nice film with a great story. Apparently there is a documentary about the real team and I'd love to see it!
Oof I didn't know that Armie Hammer was meant to be in this. I just looked it up and apparently it was Will Arnett's character he was playing. Arnett definitely has the better comedic chops.
That Impulse set looks fun. I’ve only just been introduced to the label because they are the US distributor for The Big Gundown (which their edition is phenomenal)
I always watch the whole video haha. Too many movies, too little time! Its a struggle but hopefully one we can enjoy and not get negatively overwhelmed. Thanks Elliott who likes Green Ice haha
Elliot loves Green Ice. Always look forward to seeing your next video. Keep it up! I've recently got into Giallo films after never seeing one before, would love to hear your thoughts on some of the Giallo films and boutique blu ray's you have seen.
I didn't see you as the Flesh+ Blood and All Ladies Do It type guy. When it comes to film I do appreciate open minded people who like all genres from all nations. Since you recommended it I ordered the Tinto Brass film.
Next Goal Wins is truly dreadful and sooooo predictable. I saw it as a surprise film at my local cinema. The only surprise was that I stayed the course!
if you're going to talk about tinto brass i think you should mention the far better jean rollin. shiver of the vampires, lips of blood and night of the hunted are absolute musts.
Inspector Two is pure entertainment. Honk Kong Cinema is Rich. I never knew, post Bruce Lee I never watched or knew of all these incredible Asian films.
I did get 'All that money can buy' after seeing your previous video - really good film, made me think Twilight Zone (and Burgess Meredith in 'Printer's Devil' especially). Only 2 negatives - protagonist's acting was a bit wooden, and the finale seemed rushed - 'A matter of life and death' expanded jury sequence comes to mind as the right length. However, Mr Snatch & Belle were just superb and Criterion restored this excellently. Oh, and Elliot loves Green Ice 😊
I'm genuinely curious how you have time to watch this many movies. I try to watch a movie a day but with adult life and new releases, it's getting more and more difficult.
I know what you mean. It can be very tough, especially when life throws things at you on top of normal commitments. Fortunately, as this channel has grown, I've been able to devote more of my time to watching films. Some days I may watch as many as 5 films in between other bits of work, but I'm probably averaging about 1-2 films a day. Thanks for being here and supporting!
Elliot loves Green Ice. I kind of quit boutique blurays because of the absurd prices nowadays. But maybe I can squeeze in one or two good ones a month. Room at the Top and The Train draw my attention.
The Train 4K UHD from Kino is 40% off at the moment! Well worth it - amzn.to/3Ua4Ewt
is this region B?

Elliot loves Green Ice! Very clever 😅
Love listening to you talk movies! Thank you for being you!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I'll keep doing this sort of thing as long as it continues to help people find new films
Elliot loves Green Ice, and so do I! It was a cracking film, among a bumper month for Imprint releases!
Elliot loves green eyes, and I love your channel.
Elliot loves Green Ice. Cheers, Elliot!

Thanks for the heads up! We hope you will talk about Frivolous Lola 4K UHD release as well.
Yeah I think it’s on the way from MVD! Cheers and keep up the good work
Thank you for showcasing John Ford. If you haven't seen it already, Pete Bogdanovich (director of "The Last Picture Show") created a cheeky, insightful documentary, "Directed by John Ford."

Elliot loves Green Ice. Seriously, thanks for all you do for us! 😊
Tinto brass is to the female derriere what Russ Meyer is to the bosom, but with a more cinematic eye. I recently purchased The Train through Kino Lorber's March Madness sale. The last time I watched it was on commercial television many years ago.
The 4K of 'Frivolous Lola' is now available from Cult Epics.
Elliot Loves Green Ice; but seriously, thanks for the info on those new Blu-rays from Warner Archive ... I feel a multiple disc purchase is in order.
Elliot loves green ice haha! Love your channel mate have listened for a long time.
Elliot loves Green Ice. Great update on a bunch of blu-rays. Keep em coming! 📽🍿
Second Sight have really crushed it recently! Havn't seen Borderlands but really want to now! Thanks for the recommendation!
It was a great discovery for me! I hope you enjoy it if/when you get round to it. Cheers for watching!
I just bought Room at the Top from Kino Lorber's Spring Sale. Glad to hear such great things about it.
Elliot loves green ice. I enjoy your content.

that was epic!
Love your videos though it is always depressing to look for the video to find it is only region A in many cases (such as the Boob Blu-ray)
Warner Archives are all region free as far as I know! Should be safe to import
Elliot loves GREEEEEEEN IIIIIIUVE
Elliot loves Green Ice
Elliott loves Green Ice. There.
Elliot loves Green Ice. Some really good films there 😊
I am collecting mainly some titles from Criterion, Radiance, Indicator and Second Run and that is more than enough for me!!!
Elliot Loves Green Ice
Hi Elliot, i got Green Ice from imprint, saw it years ago, was quite slow, could of been shorter.
I just bought 13 Blu-rays and 5 books from Hamilton Book
Very nice! I love to hear the physical media buying going strong.
Thanks, Internet, for this suggestion!!
Elliot lives Green Ice!
Inspector Two is pure entertainment. Honk Kong Cinema is Rich. I never knew, post Bruce Lee I never watched or knew of all these incredible Asian films.

Elliot loves Old Spice?
I love Amy Yip more though.
17:07 Are you picking up Frivolous Lola as well?
A warm Hi from iran
hello!
Where do you find the time to watch all these films?
More Asian films is just what the film doctor ordered.
Where have you had money talks from? It’s been OOP for ages and I can’t see it newly listed anywhere to get disc replacement?
I got this before the issues were found and I believe the listings have been pulled until the new discs are printed. Should be soon I imagine!
Btw … in 'All that money can buy' Belle sings a lullaby to the baby - if you speak French, the lyrics are 😳

@@ElliotCoen You are living the dream my friend. Mind if I ask if this is now you're full time or are you able to do other work as well?
Having a ten year old and working too many hours, I’m lucky if I get in one (of my choice) per week!
The Comedy Man needs a lot more eyes on it.
I want to know more about what the ladies are doing. Why they're all doing it...
Im watching from prison
