When I was a sophomore in high school , in the midst of muscle car mania, a young couple that lived in the cul-de-sac where a friend of mine lived bought a 1965 Impala SS with a 396 and a four speed. This car had to be one of the first that could be ordered with a 396. We kids knew what the flags stood for on a Chevrolet. The flags for the 396 and the 396 above the flags was over the moon for us. I think it was the same color as this car and it had a four on the floor with a console. We were totally blown away!
