Those awards are all Grammy awards. His grandfather is Derek Collier a renowned violinist who studied and taught at the Royal Academy of Music. His mother is also a violist who taught at the Royal Academy herself. Jacob grew up around musicians and is a musical savant of sorts with an almost super human ear, perfect pitch and a ridiculous sense of time. He is arguably the most influential music theorist of the last decade, and is an incredibly high level jazz pianist; on top of being a song-writer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and being trained in classical voice from the age of 7. I've worked with accomplished musicians that know his mother and they say his whole family are just insanely talented but Jacob is out of this world.
@@UNCLEMOMO That's just nepotism. There are plenty overrated people in all fields of the arts who are given access to the best instruction and exposure but are relatively mediocre in their fields, lack natural God-given talent, and have clout because of their parents' class in society. Jacob Collier is the most overrated musician of the past decade. You cannot deny it.
@@MazBringsby I'd think the first person to agree with you is JC himself. JC had the perfect environment and nepotism is a part of that environment. If you understand music then it's undeniable that his music theory is beyond almost if not all modern popular artists. I can see why you wouldn't like him, but at least give him the benefit of the doubt. All the musicians I've seen that don't like him seem to acknowledge the fact that he is undeniable, and with good reason.
those are actually all grammys for his own music i'm pretty sure, mostly arrangements of covers like this, but which he produces himself! He won grammys for his covers/arrangements of All Night Long, Moon River, You and I, and also the Flinstones theme song if i'm not mistaken!
@@UNCLEMOMO Where would I find this reaction to "Moon River?" It doesn't come up on UA-cam and I would love to see your reaction to this utterly astounding musical accomplishment.
How strange that there are people who claim that Jacob Collier is overrated. Tell that to Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones , though these will be names of which those who denigrate his prodigious talent will be unaware.
"how many instruments do you see in this room?" Man if he did a pan of the camera you would see at least a hundred different instruments and he is proficient in all of them
I saw in one of your replies below that you've done a reaction to Jacob's version of "Moon River." I'm very, very interested in seeing that but I can't find it anywhere? I would be most appreciative if you could tell me what the story with that reaction is. Thanks so much.
Wow he killed It. I'm sorry for Coldplay, but OMG his delivery ... Overmelming. By the way if you desire a new extraordinary experience listen to Dimash a Kazak singer who will let you fly on his stunning roller coaster. Don't listen to Dimash's songs before reactions, enjoy the Surprise. However I think it's better for you to have a knowhow of his background. Stay safe and healthy, peace from Italy
Jacob Collier is the most overrated musician of the 21st century so far. He can't sing to save his life, and his musical choices are bizzarely self-indulgent and unpleasant.
@@UNCLEMOMO I have been listening to music for over 30 years and still listen to recordings going back as far as the 1930s. The lie that Jacob Collier is a musical genius is an insult to the works of hundreds of thousands of musicians who he isn't even capable of emulating, let alone forging new artistic ground with his own creativity and emotional heft. Everything Jacob Collier does is gimmicky and he has grown to be so self-aggrandizing and egotistical despite not really winning over the jazz or classical communities. They can give him 20 Grammys if they want, no intelligent person I know plays or owns Jacob Collier records. This is more of a result of nepotism and aggressive marketing than actual love of his discography by the public.

And his newest Album got nominated Best Album of the year with no covers! His song "you won't hold me" of this album got a grammy!
