I love their advice about just writing an alternative plot point to see if it works, rather than just endlessly thinking about it. I tend to think and think and think, and never write. Perhaps if I just start writing more, and thinking less, I'll be able to think more clearly, and write a better story.

A tip Robert Rodriguez has always given on writing and creating, do not wait to be inspired. Start writing and creating and you will inspire yourself or your own thoughts

writing is a process. Sometimes it just comes to you, beginning, middle, and end. Other times you wait 10 years to figure out that "perfect ending". Writing in a journal, or writing short movies are great, you can write anything and it doesn't even have to be good. Just gets your ideas flowing. But for that one really good idea, it can take a long time to develop it. Patience is not your enemy when it comes to writing. Not being prepared to actually do something when the idea hits you is the sin.

I literally just told myself JUST WRITING IT would be faster than continually deliberating...and THERE THEY SAID IT. Love this.

Good stuff. IMO the last point is the best - a screenplay is not the finished product, but rather the start of a collaborative process. The better the screenplay the more people will want to collaborate on it and get it to the screen.

I struggle most with the balance between "write your best stuff" and "don't view it as too precious to reshape it"

I think you could find yourself doing your best work by committing to the rewriting process and being willing to change any piece that could use some improvement. It doesn't have to be one or the other. You don't know what your best work is right from the start.

This was informative athough I can't get anyone to explain how two people can write it together... are they writing as the same time? is one writing a scene and the other adds on? the dialogue? who determines that? how is that done together?

    1. Pick an idea: Have a premise
    2. An idea can come from anywhere *Character then building a plot
**A plot then build out the characters
    ***Title
    3. Learn the rules and then break all of them. - - Characters must change
    - Make it relatable
    - Something to root for
    4. There is no art without CONTRAST (Comedic/Dramatic)
    5. Keep the story simple:
    - Story still works as a regular story
    6. Keep Drafting: You will have tons of drafts
    7. Disagreements will occur with a partner. The key is to determine the level of care. And the lesser level of care should acquiesce to the stronger level of care.

I have an idea for a horror movie. Today kids and adults play video games. In these games like Call of Duty and Apex Legends people are super mean to one another. My idea is that someone or something can find the exact location of someone and they get back at the other person in real life. This already kind of happens in real life because sometimes gamers find other gamers and SWAT them. My idea is that the find them and kill them and everyone else in the home. The twist would be that everyone is looking for a human but in the end it is not human at all. Maybe the supernatural being is the toxic hate build up of years of unchecked hate.
I don’t know, I get a lot of silly movie ideas. I have watched a lot of movies over the years.
I love the advice from this video, thanks.

Well, another perspective would be that a script is like the blueprint for a new building. Once it is done, the visitors will think about the initial design, mainly if it is a great or a terrible structure. If it is average, most of the people wouldn't even think about construction drafts in the first place.

    • @bOmBAsTiK
      @bOmBAsTiK 3 роки тому

Yeah, your (mis)spellings are the tip-off that you're not necessarily the best writer. Doesn't mean that you're not a great storyteller. Evan seems to be more the writer here than Seth, so yes if you find the right person, perhaps it can work for you. However, if you expect someone to just "write" what's in your head that you dictate to them, you may want to hire an assistant for that. Otherwise, a screenwriter you collaborate with will likely demand SCRIPT credit while you only get STORY credit, which usually is the lesser of the pie, if sold.
