  • Ugly job. great time to drain your oil. it will dribble out of the cooler line if you don't.

I did this today on 96 Eldorado and just jacking passenger side up and going from the bottom is alot easier then removing a bunch of stuff. There is a plate down there designed for replacing the alternator so you wouldnt have to take off so much.

I realize this video is 3 years old but I'd like to add to this video since it is more detailed and more on target then the rest. I just did this job today and would like to add. The radiator does not need to come out HOWEVER it IS recommended for the simple reason you risk damaging the core if the alternator bangs it too much. I left my radiator in but you have NO room left. I also had a 3 wire connector that nobody else has (seems to be a diode trio wire (not sure) I also have heated glass and could be part of that system. IF you leave the rad in, take the battery out, the support bar passenger side, torque strut and bracket, rad support plastic holder, headlight plastic. I was lucky, my alternator was replaced before, the hidden bolt was not reinstalled and the manifold bolt you show was still backed all the way off. Remove the alternator access panel (attached to the rad support), the alternator will come out the bottom. You will have to nudge the air conditioning line out of the way. just a second opinion

I just did this same job on a 99 deville...I had no trouble seeing the last bolt from underneath but my advice is this...if you can afford to pay somebody else to do this job...Pay them!

Oh my life my wasted wasted life. 0815FunkMaster why don't you love me? Hey, I can see a light ... far off in the distance, someone is calling my name ..... Grandma? is that you?

Hello. Done 02/2016. I have a 98 Eldorado and it took me days to remove the alternator. One day I realize that there is a metal plate to remove from the bottom frame under the alternator. no need to remove the lights and radiator. in and out in a few minutes save your fluid unless you need to flush it.

I read somewhere there is a metal plate underneath...unbolted you will have had direct access to the alternator...

You can see the bolt when you remove the small plastic bottom plate under the radiator. When you now look from under your car the bolt is just a bit down the AC/Compressor.
