Jason was such a delight to listen to. Well-read, clever, funny, and bright. This is an awful -- and disturbing-- decision by the Sox. Head-scratching.
You guys are hitting it right on the head! I am soooooooo pissed!!!! Jerry is doing everything possible to make me hate this team!!! And they don't give a crap! No Sox fest, (did we ever have one?) , they won't fire the WORST manager in baseball or the worst pitching coach in baseball but they will trade away a fan favorite in Jake Burger, everything they're doing...and it's as clear as it can be they will not be spending any kind of major free agent money....we're going to be a AAA ball club next year with no possibility to compete. Yay!
Players come and go. Managers come and go. I can live with that. Letting Benetti go is a different story. I am absolutely incensed by this. The White Sox should have done everything possible, within reason, to keep Jason on the Southside for his entire career but it is crystal clear they didn't. Jason is one of us. He's a White Sox fan. Doing play-by-play for the ballclub he grew up cheering was his dream job. To let someone like that walk away without doing everything possible to keep him is one of the many direct insults to the fans from the last few years. The level of smugness and hubris Reinsdorf has shown in the last few years has been truly mind-boggling but letting Benetti walk is absolutely beyond the pale. I honestly have to wonder what's next? Is Jerry going to stand at one of the ballpark entrances on opening day and spit in the face of every fan who passes through the turnstiles? He might as well at this point because figuratively, that's all he's done over the past few years.
I haven't gone to a game since Game 3 vs. Houston in the '21 D.S. (the only win) and got so damn fed up this past season I basically stopped watching in early July. I now wish I woulda watched just a little more to hear Benetti. This tells you everything you need to know about the state of the organization. A guy who grew up loving the Sox, becomes an announcer, literally living his dream, and now like that he up and goes to another team, a divisional team, because our owner is a joke. We thought this year was bad, oh boy. I'm convinced this team will never win a playoff series again in my lifetime. I'm only 38.
As a Tigers fan all I can say is, "Wow - thanks Chicago!!!" The games have never been this enjoyable as a listener - when Jason is off for a day I'm bored out of my mind. Love this guy.
Sox losing Benetti? What else can they do wrong? Damn shame! Another reason why I'll be a Sox fan til death, but I DIDN'T WATCH A SINGLE GAME THIS YEAR!
