When we were kids my dad worked for the city and brought a dump-truck load of beautiful black sand home. Us kids played in it for weeks with our Tonkas and it was much later I learned it was dried sewage sludge from the disposal plant destined as fertilizer for the garden.
Stan when you're digging down like this, start wide. For every 6" down you do, move 6" in and that will leave you a 1 to 1 slope on your sides when you're done and you won't have to come back and mess with it later. Used to dig pits with bulldozers and that's a nice trick. Good work. Love the videos
Been watching you videos for years now and from your videos I have learn a lot from all your techniques and knowledge I use when I build homes here in east tx
Hey stan A trick to get the sand out from the top of the trailer is when its lifted all the way up tap as high as u can reach with a rubber mallet it will knock the sand lose so more material comes out without adding to the next load
My parents yard is the same way. There's about 3" of top soil, then pure sand as far as you can dig. When we built the in-ground pool, it was still sand 8ft down. We had to keep spraying it down with water while we were coating the slope and bottom with vermiculite. Makes for a BIG water bill during the summer.
Had a bobcat t150! Absolutely loved it, love electric and push button joy stick but bobcat runs so smooth with hand foot, used to walk them on front wheels only all the time lol
My neighborhood here in southern ct actually has that exact same sand under it. When they built the neighborhood they sold all the topsoil and that’s the same color sand. Digging for pools is so easy and don’t even need to complete a perk test. Go down about another 10-15 ft in places and find very fine pea gravel.
That almost reminds me of the sand around my parent's place in MN -- made for great sandbox sand growing up as it was about as fine as sugar. Didn't have quite the reddish color of what you're loading though. Also worked extremely well for leveling -- better than what I've usually seen being sold as mason sand in big box stores. ...we always called the sand on their property "sugar sand"
Hi Stan, For this application moving the sand, The trailer I made would have worked perfectly. I was about a 3000 lb trailer that I made, and I put a 6000lb self dumping hopper on it. Loaded or empty it was easy and fast to dump by hand, and the steel was thick enough that it I hit it with a small excavator bucket it wouldn't self destruct. Also the cost was low.
If you dig down anywhere from 3 to 30 feet in my area, you get this type of sand. Guys buy cheap land outside of town and make sand pits. We probably have 20+ sand pits within 20 miles or my property. Contractors will use the surge ponds as borrow pits to get the sand for grading and under pad work.
Maybe your investment this year should be a dually pickup. 7.3L gas single cab f350 or 450. use it for plowing on large lots and hauling equipment in the off season. You could even go all out and do a super single conversion or custom service box.
You are a good trailer backer upper guy. I can back a trailer just about anywhere. But if I don't have a trailer hooked up, it takes me 100 tries to back just the truck into the garage.
I never worked where I had to drive anything with a trailer, 40 years in a machine shop. But one time while renting a U-Haul vehicle I happened to look in the glove box and they had instructions on backing a trailer. Most people, including me up until that time, will put your hand at the top of the wheel so you have to reverse your actions, want the trailer to go to your right, turn the wheel to the left. BUT the U-Haul instructions said to put your hand at the BOTTOM of the steering wheel, you want the trailer to go to your right, turn the wheel to the right. Later on when I was towing a trailer I tried that, SO MUCH easier. Why I shared that I don't know, but it helped me to back a trailer.
Good hint: always leave a grease gun inside the machine! If you know you need something regularly leave it inside the machine. That's what I do with my machine's... every machine has a window cleaning spray inside because I use it that often.
Hey Stanley, So me, being easily confused, didn't really get a clear instruction for your method. Of course, I can see how you are digging in this back and forth and widen and you go down...was that the basic method here? Would you have done it differently if your track was in good working order? You're pulling 9 tons of sand with a half ton pickup? Did I hear right?
its a 3/4 ton Ram
He is more likely closer to 6 to 7 tons. its looks like a 14k trailer. Standard tires on a 14 k trailer would squish to the ground and the breaks would ... Well there wouldnt be any. ;p I would not do 7 tons will the 3/4 tons. But my 1.5 ton can handle it.
@@rtwllc4793 assuming his estimate is right and the trailer can handle it.... This is one case where I don't mind a 3/4 ton bumper towing this. He's going just down the road so he's not going very fast and isn't putting anyone else in danger.
