I appreciate the video. Very helpful and informative. I just finished an M4A1 clone-ish build. It is sort of "correct", or about as correct as a civilian can build. My lower has "US Property" markings and safe/semi/auto markings. It is semi-auto, of course. I did a lot of study and one thing I found, especially with photos of rifles "in the wild", is that there are many variances which show up. Some may be field expedients applied by individual users. Especially with accessories and things like grips and buttstocks, rail covers. Since the MK18 Mod 1 is a SOCOM weapon, I imagine there are even more variances in the field. I am thinking of building a MK18 Mod 1 next, as I have a correct lower to use. It would be my first SBR build. My M4A1 uses a Colt 14.5" barrel, but I pinned and welded an extended A2 flash hider to avoid the SBR. The total difference in length was .35" and I wasn't going to go through registration and taxes for less than a half inch in overall length, and virtually no difference in appearance.

Top notch build. I believe the McFarland one-piece gas ring was a part of the BCG overhaul too. I think that was either for Block I or II. I’ve never thought the O-ring was necessary on the civvy clones (e.g., no fun switch). The OEM Colt gold spring with insert by itself is actually really good. But I understand why you would add it for a clone.
The crane extractor o-ring predates the colt gold spring/black insert. With the older extractor spring and blue insert, it was determined to be a point of failure on shorties, the o-ring being an interim solution to add more tension to the extractor claw. Some of the oldest M4 carbines I've used still have the original rifle spring and blue inserts without the crane o-ring. The newer gold spring and black inserts were the permanent fix for the extraction issues, and do not require the o-ring. Not trying to be critical, I hope someone finds this informative.

Where did you get the rail covers you have on this build? i’d love to get them for my rifle.
Thank you for your very kind comments. The rail covers are from Ergo Grips. Magpul and B&T make similar ones now. But the originals were Ergo
How do you know what to put on the UID tag
Carolina Laser Works knows the proper part numbers and you can look the CAGE codes up online.
Awesome builds man. I binge watched your MK18 videos. I have a MK18 RIS II Upper. Thinking about cutting down my Colt LE6920 16” barrel and putting my RIS II on that rifle. Would a 6920 receiver set and cut barrel be acceptable as “clone correct”?
It depends on the year, but for the most part, yes.
@@thetexasgunvault just looked up the SN. It’s a 2012. Thanks!
Hey Jason, what is the size of your rail for that shorty. And build what and how you want half the people wouldn't now the difference 😂. Keep it up, brother 👍🏾
9.55 inches. Thank you so much!
@thetexasgunvault thank you sir
Thats amazing bro nice build. Ive wanted a mk18 since i first saw one in person in Iraq when i worked with SF. Now how much did it cost is my question.
When I assembled it, I dropped nearly 8k for everything.
Very nice weapon
Thank you so much!
I’m surprised you didn’t go with the binary trigger
No, I wanted something as close to the originals as possible.
I have a big question why is that pineapple upside down?
IYKYK
good one! thank you
Glad you liked it!
Question in total how much would you say this build cost you?
I would say around 8K
The MK-18 was my 2nd AR I built and modded
That is awesome!
Hey bud where did you get that 99051 front sight I can’t find it anywhere I’m almost complete with my mk18 I can’t find them anywhere and is your barrel a SOCOM profile or government profile
SOCOM profile and I found the sight online somewhere. It has been awhile and I do not remember where.
@@thetexasgunvault well they are damn near impossible to find but I have studied your video enough to remember every single part of your cqbr mod 1 off the top of my head and how much it cost
garand thumb just did a video on this today!!! talk about perfect timing!!! 19Nov2023
Thank you so much!
Hey man, you did a good job and probably the most clone correct mod1 I've ever seen! I'm also a cloner. I built a not so clone correct MK18 mod 1, so I know how much time and money is in this thing. 😎👍
I appreciate that and it means a lot to me!
Good morning, Jason, mate, a quick question, Is there a gun under the attachments? I would love to be a clone clown. But I live in a country where we are not allowed such great kit, Cheers
America is always looking for freedom loving patriots to move here!
Great video. Maybe just don't worry so much about the haters
I appreciate that!
Beautiful piece. But my eye kept drifting to the upside-down pineapple on the wall. lol
#IYKYK
Yep. LOL. Life it too damn short.
