I took the Way of the Playa to America.
The courses in Virginia and Maryland are beautiful and I wish I could stay longer but I was only there for 5-6 days before going to Phoenix.
The temperature was not for me, but it was nice to meet playas. They make it all worth it. It's difficult because of all the isolation and shutdowns throughout 2020 and 2021.

Next time I would come to this area for 2 months. I would come in Spring or summer and learn the grass and the conditions. There was no time as I was touring in DC and Virginia enjoying time there with my wife as a tourist and as a semi honeymoon as we were separated for 7 months in 2020 after getting married 2 months prior.
I hit the ball like a baus in this round despite landing the prior day in the evening. The short game is always the first to go when you're unpracticed, or tired. That can be sharpened up but you need a larger arsenal in the grasses here in this part of the world. I had never seen tjem before, but I think about 10 hours of practice should be enough to work them out.

Get myself back to the mindset i held as a beginner golfer - stress free! As i improved i tended to put more pressure on myself which can lead to me not always being the best playa to play with. Embracing the stree-free approach will allow me to have more fun and lead to better scores by taking out the stupid shots

@@clsisul A lifelong American may miss out on how good you've got it. I moved to the US 14 years ago. Greatest country on earth. I think people confused "greatest" with "nicest place to live" or "most free services". But the US is certainly the greatest.
Blue Mash is one of my "home" courses. Love that the playa in chief enjoyed it. Such a gem in late fall.

@@GolfSidekick Also, these are not the greatest conditions to play in the north atm when leaves fall from trees and also are in the middle of the fairways. Sometimes because of that, you can lose a ball when you know you have hit it very good and in normally a safe spot. Better time to play in north is mid sping that is around mid-april ( little bit later in some states) until max mid october... Glad to see you are in America, TRUST THE SYSTEM, WADDAPLAYA !

My goals are to finally become a happy golfer after many years of loving the game but struggling with consistency and fearing the game at times , I've only recently started watching your videos and they are a breath of fresh air , you've opened my eyes and I am now putting a lot of constructive practice in, having lessons putting a lot more thought in to my golf , my goal is to get my handicap of 25 down enjoy my golf and become a playa and a baus
Nice playa. Just play golf. Enjoy the scenery, the time outside, the walk. The golf is only secondary and the swing is non existent

For the last year or so, I was thinking about moving to Thailand or Indonesia, where I could golf and fish, to get away from the corrupt Karens here trying to destroy my country. I live not far from Blue Mash and it was great watching you play on a course I have played on. Love your program and keeping fun as the most important thing in golf. I hope to break 80 this year by following your philosophy and putting in more time for practice.
You can. Get up and down in 3 shots or less inside 100 yards and you're breaking 80

Stoked to see the ‘Merica footage! My goal for 2022 is to get outside my comfort zone and play rounds with strangers. I work in a restaurant so my days off usually don’t work out to play with them so I’ll look for a wide open tee time to play solo. Just recently broke 100 and still feel like a burden when I’m in a group but I’m slowing getting over it thanks in part to your videos with jmac and blog! Keep doing gods work king of the playas!
The more you play with new people, the more you will be comfortable. Remember, no one cares about your score. THey just care that you're pleasant

One of my favorite courses in MD. Only played it once when a good friend of mine’s dad asked me to join when I visited in between college breaks. His daughter couldn’t care less about golfing so just the two of us went out. He (the dad) passed away shortly after but was very kind and genuine and loved the game of golf more than anyone I’ve met. Very good memories there.

today i had played an 18 hole competition off the back tee's and i play off 20 and usually shoot around low 90's to high 80's but today i beat my personal record of 87 and shot 73 off the stick, if you werent around Matt i would of never known how to break 80 with the way of the PLAYA so thank you so much for posting and keep up the outstanding work my man :)

I played this course regularly since I grew up about an hour away and it brings back great memories. I have since moved to Alabama and I had to do the opposite by learning how to play bermuda & zoysia grass instead of bent. Thank you for the chance to see the course again,

Glad to see you back. Imagine what you would have shot say two years ago. With no idea on playing the short game around the greens you shot darn well. Make your way down to North Carolina and visit Pinehurst.
2022 goal is definitely to get more sleep - your vids keeping me awake watching into the wee hours. But whenever I go to sleep and dream the birdie music I know the next day is gonna be a good day on the course!

My goal for 2022 is to lower my handicap and take some lessons. Fell in love with golf at the end of 2021 and have watched almost all your vids. Taken a lot of the strokes shaved tips to the course. Waddaplaya

Blue Mash is a great course! Of all the Maryland courses, you picked a winner. Golf goal is to bring my 9.5 HCP to a 3 or even a 2!
great content as always! First one to kick off the tour i can tell there is plenty more of that to come. Americans have a great casual golf culture, hope one day to get there myself to experience it. Good to get the playas insight in to the difference in course conditions - never heard it broken down and made relatable like that before.

My goals are to gain some consistency so that I can have a reasonable handicap. I also want to learn to hit a draw in order to gain some distance. I enjoy your videos because they help me with the mental aspect of the game which is another area I need work on. Enjoying the game helps with confidence but some days I'm hitting so poorly I have a hard time enjoying myself. Accomplishing these goals will help me love golf even more. Become a playa and a baus!!!
Perhaps softening your fade and optimizing some spin with quipment can gain you distance without needing to hit an (often less controllable) draw. Couple lessons can help a lot with ball striking

LOL, "48 Freedom Degrees", love it. Go north young man. We played a New Jersey course last weekend and I broke my record with a low temp of 19 freedom degrees. Too bad my score didn't drop as well, but still a lot of fun. I enjoy the channel, welcome to the US.
Matt, on courses with elevated greens with Kentucky Blue or Bent you can hit green side chips by drilling into the turf just like you would out of a bunker-the club never touches the ball and the explosion under the ball tosses the ball onto the green.

Been waiting for this. Blue Mash is a beauty. Noticed that you didn't hit driver once. You hit it further than most so it didn't matter on some holes where driver is always the club, like #2 and #3.
Thing fell out the sole of the club and I hadn't hit it properly since. That loss of weigh dropped the swing weight down too far so I had headworms with the driver.

I always have a few goals each year...related to overall scoring average (2022 goal is 79.9), getting better at particular shots (last year I finally figured out how to hit out of green side bunkers...this year I need to figure out fairway bunkers), and the incremental journey of quelling the frustration and seeking the mellow 'way of the playa'). This year's main goal, however, is finally learning and dialing in my carry distances with my irons.

Blue Mash is a really class track - only about 20 minutes from me. The countryside is amazing here in the fall. Given the -10C weather here today, I'd be thrilled to be in Thailand right now.
I've been following the Way of the Playa and broke 90 for my first round of 2022. I'm going to keep training and hopefully avoid 90's the rest of the year so I can justify buying some new clubs :)
My goal is to not let my emotions get the better of me, as soon as I clear my mind I litterally play so much better. Slowing down play & each shot to maximise my chance of shooting a lower score :)
