Loving your channel. Apologies in advance for the somewhat political nature of this comment - I just want to make a superficial observation about general political culture comparing US to Scotland.... and along the way encourage folk to consider reversing the Highland Clearances to the 'colonies' during the 18th and 19th centuries.
I'm a NE Highlander born and bred, but we bide in Edinburgh noo... I've always considered myself to be socialist in outlook and spent my working life as a doctor in the NHS. I have several American friends, living on both sides of the pond, mainly from blue states but a few in Texas (oil industry of course). I was initially surprised by the reactions whenever I described Scotland as a "social democracy" - some recoil in horror as if I said we're communist! It took me a while to understand where that came from... but I get it it now. We may speak very similar language but there are significant differences in our cultures and attitudes.
Scotland is underpopulated at just under 5.5m vs total UK population of 69.3m ie barely 8% of the UK population in 32% of UK land mass, albeit with lots of mountains and lochs in the northern half. England has about 85% of the population in only 53% of the land mass. The UK government is vastly dominated by English MPs so it comes as no surprise that the UK government is trying to curtail immigration. On the other hand the Scottish government has repeatedly asked UK gov for a Scotland-only immigration visa which has been flatly denied... 😞
Don't let that deter you though - Scots are a friendly bunch and we welcome folk who want to come to live here and add their voices to our communities whatever their accent or native language. As the old Scots saying goes - "Come on in. The kettle's on", or the alternative in Gàidhlig na h-Alba "ceud mìle fàilte"!

I agree with you 100 percent. My grandfather immigrated to New York from Scotland in the early 1900's. He came as a bricklayer and became a Republican. He would not like the Republican party today. I am devastated with the election.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but you sound incredibly paranoid in all your videos. I agree with much of what you claim and I like your channel, respectfully, you are notorious for blowing things way out of proportion and generalizing. I am a registered democrat in a red state, Kentucky, with a democrat governor. Maybe where you lived in Oklahoma was a pile but the usa is quite large. I have a great community of people and amazing home in the country in rolling hills. My tap water is fine and and the schools aren’t dangerous. I value responsible gun ownership and common sense regs.
Back to the election, if democrats weren’t so weak trump would have never been elected. Also in Scotland social media can land you in jail. I think Scotland is beautiful but you can have it. I’d love to visit. We survived a Trump presidency once . Our government has checks and balances that worked well.
Cheers thanks for the content. Just a discussion disagreement no malice intended

You got it right about Idiocracy and The Handmaid's Tale! However, we are staying and trying again in 4 years, just hoping he hasn't broken the country too bad. The cabinet picks pretty much say it all, it's going to be a real shit show. I asked my doctor yesterday to get me all caught up on vaccines, to last thru 2028, what an insane thing to have to consider. But, we've got a good life up here in Alaska, so we'll enjoy the little things and hope things improve at the midterms. It's probably gonna take decades to change the Supreme Court and the Senate majority though, unfortunately.

Completely agree with you - me and my friends have been completely shocked not only that he got re-elected, but decidedly so 😢 I feel very grateful to live in a solid blue state AND be dual citizen 🎉 Right now I can’t watch the news because I can’t do another 4 years of being outraged every 2 mins 🤬🤷‍♀️ I don’t know what this will mean for the country/Western democracy 😢 And this time he has no blocks as the Supreme a court, senate and now house are all repub controlled now. I don’t get it - I struggled understanding after W got re-elected, but who knew how much worse it could get 😳

"because I can’t do another 4 years of being outraged every 2 mins". - here's a thought, just stop listening to the media - all of them. None of them regardless of whether they are red or blue are worth anything. Nothing will change fundamentally regardless of who is charge because the US is fundamentally an oligarchy with corporations controlling the narrative. Better to just live your life and pay no attention to the rhetoric. Trump was all bluster in 2016 and didn't do much in his first term. People being outraged over Trump or Biden or Harris are pissing their life away over something they cannot control. These politicians are all the same, what makes it appear existential is the 'fear porn' of the media. Just ignore them. You'll be much happier.

    • @AndrewColomy

It's hubris. The left refuses to accept that primary issues continue to exist in America, like high gas prices, high food prices, a border that's out of control and drugs and criminals funneling into the country. They're all too worried about Ukraine, and Palestine, and climate change, and all these other issues we're supposed to just throw money at and fix while we remain neglected at home. We allow other countries to take advantage of us. Republicans, for the longest time, were lambasted as Nazis, bigots, and extremists, and when the extremely vocal and annoying minority calls the silent majority all these terrible things, the silent majority is going to rise up. Now, we're making our voices heard. The left wanted to play stupid games and now they're winning stupid prizes.

Plutocracy is not really the right term.
In a Plutocracy only the rich have the right to vote, which is called "census suffrage" which is the main pillar for a Plutocracy, and that isn´t the case in the USA.
The USA is simply no "modern democracy" but an "antiquated democracy" which made sense in the 18th + 19th century but is not suitable anymore for the 21th century.
And education is also a big problem in the USA, because "Who doesn´t know stuff, is then forced to believe stuff" so as consequence it becomes then less important "what is said", but important is then "who has said" because you have to - believe - that one who you - believe - is trustworthy = way too much "believe" than "knowing" is there in play = which leads into "Cult of personality"

The United States is over , just hope I’m not around for the complete collapse. Sorry ma'am, but you are a doomer. If you don't know what that means google it. The Americans thought it was a good idea to put an unelected and unqualified joke of a candidate on the presidential ticket. No, I'm not speaking of Donald. At least he has something going for him. This is a return to normalcy. I'm not American but I understand that skipping a whole part of the political process like qualifying as a candidate inside your own party is a very important part of the democratic process. At least that's how we do it here. I guess we're just more democratic then.

Hi. I respect that you don't want to discuss politics..so I'm not going g go do that. I simply want you to know that Donald Trump did Not get the majority of popular votes. Kamala Harris did. Just as when Hilary C. ran; the Electoral College did us in again.
The majority of voting Whites male/female voted for Trump (especially the males..The combined white vote I think was 57%). The majority of women in all ethnicities (except white voted for Kamala) and the majority of black/Hispanic males voted for Kamala; although imvho..these categories should have been 100%.
The majority of America does not embrace nor support fascism. I'm glad you've found a more straightforward and peaceful place to live.
