- What does it mean to be creative? Appropriation has a long history in Art and some artists have used it as a creative strategy. However, where is the line between creation and plagiarism; between homage and theft? What is the difference between a remake and a reinvention? In this video, we will look at the history of appropriation in art and the several international artists that use it. These artists include Picasso, Duchamp, Pop Artists, the Pictures Generation, Asian artists, street artists and more; over 65 artists are showcased!
NOTE: There is an error in the video at the 6:46 mark where the work of Barbara Kruger is shown, but the title reads Martha Rosler. Apologies.

Agreed! Feel so lucky it showed up on recommended watch list.
Frank, this is the most concise yet thorough treatise on the subject I've ever seen. You distilled-condensed what took me decades to learn into minutes and made it entertaining as well. Bravo!
Thank you for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated!
So many paintings and collages I had seen before that I can now contextualise thanks to your video!

You are my favorite channel here on UA-cam. So good. Thank you for making this particular video. Tired of everyone thinking creativity is original. Everything is a remix!
I appreciate that! Thank you for taking the time comment. Indeed, just like Kirby Ferguson said, everything is a remix.
Thank you for the Great work Frank much appreciated! I just noticed that when you mentioned Barbara Kruger you had Martha Rosler's name shown on the screen 6: 47 unless, of course, this is your way of appropriating :D thank you again very informative!
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I noticed that error. I think I pinned a comment about it. Not sure the best way to fix it without killing off links.
Super interesting and so well done !
Thank you! Cheers!

Feel free to embed/link as possible.
The ones who appropriate pre-existing images are called creatives. Those who don't are called Artists. Artists are original, creatives are copies.
Interesting perspective.
It’s just VORING POST-NEO DADA.
Fair enough. To each their own.
