Fun fact; English Bulldogs tend to wiggle their butts when excited because of their lack of, or very small tails. If excited enough their entire back half or more will wiggle.
Dogs can be so excited, they wiggle their butts as well as their tails.
They will also dance out while eating. 🤣 i used to dog sit a boxer and a bulldog. They had to eat separately because the bulldog takes 30 minutes to dance and walk and eat LOL
I had an English Cocker Spaniel with a very short tail and she would also do that! She'd wiggle half of her back when excited!
(PS, my family adopted her at age 5, so we aren't the ones who cut her tail)

This is a result of irresponsible breeding practices by greedy humans.
In Netherlands I believe they are breeding bulldogs with longer faces to reduce some of their health problems, mostly breathing, and I think it's very cool
As the owner of a very old (13) yrs old french bulldog… for as wonderful dogs as they are I very much can’t recommend them. Health problems, the brachy face, it’s rough. She’s a great dog, they all are, but get a healthier breed or mutt. It’ll save you money and stress 😂

Bullies are THE personality dog. Sadly breeders have corrupted their conformation.They need to get back to basing the line on the mastiff. It would give them a longer and healthier life.

I did have a bulldog (she died of a heart attack at 9) who had a very bad tail pocket. She had such bad yeast infections that the vet said the best thing to do was amputate her tail. It was the best thing we ever did to make her happy and no longer in pain. Yes it was an expensive surgery but well worth it.

When I was a pro dog groomer 30 yrs ago I always awarded every one a treat at the end even if naughty, and I always verbalized by saying clearly, "All Done!" The treat creates bonding and the words told them the ordeal was over. Dogs have good memories.
Dog grooming is one of the only professions where kissing your clients is not an ethical issue and I think that’s great
Bulldogs are what you get when you're rich enough to not care how much you're going to spend on vet bills. They really do have freakin' adorable personalities though!
Yeah I really really wish they didn't exist. But that is not their fault and they are still precious babies.
Well I've spent over 2 grand on my mutt in just 4 months. That's just vet bills. He's a mixed breed lab.

That's not included all the teeth extractions and BOAS surgeries.
I've rescued bulldogs for many years... I swear I'd be mortgage free if I hadn't... but I wouldn't change it for the world. One dog in particular cost over $11,000 in her first year.. her health issues were not typical of a bulldog breed, just a very rare disease...

My girl's tail was a tight little loop, and we called it the cinnamon roll.
I was lucky enough to watch over my landlords BD for 3 days. She was older and snored loudly and passed gas. She growled and hummed and loved sleeping with me at night. I gave her my blanket when I moved away. She loved it.
I miss my Bulldog Gracie. She lived till 14. Gentlest dog I ever had. And yes, she was very expensive to take care of!!!! Very smart. Sweet. Lovable. Sassy. Hilarious. Couch potato pal.
It breaks my heart how bulldogs can only be born by c-section. They can't even be born naturally. Man was not kind developing this breed.
Maybe people should try to re-breed an earlier version of a bulldog.

I LOVE how you are HONEST about different health problems of breeds and how different breeds can also be MORE EXPENSIVE to own than others. Millions of dogs are abused and abandoned every year worldwide because people picked the WRONG BREED for themselves.

I've worked with dogs in several settings for only a few years, and I've seen so many examples of why short nosed breeds suffer from what we've done to them through breeding. Wrinkles (every last one) are usually not looked after so they get yucky and rusty quick. You better get your bully vaccinated twice yearly for bordetella if you intend on bringing them in to any area where other dogs frequent. It escalates to the point of medical emergency scary quickly because the poor things can't breathe right to begin with. When they get excited and get running they often will vomit white foam, a good indicator that they're unable to get enough air into them to support them during play. Frenchies especially are some of the most boisterous and hard-core players, and don't know when they need to take a break. They'll run until they're vomiting, and once they're done, they'll just keep on going. I can't say I've seen many old bulldogs or frenchies either, come to think of it, which sucks, because they're lovely sweet, hilarious dogs. We've just royally screwed them over physically. I see the appeal, they can be so adorable and squishy and wiggly and cute, but it's 100% not worth the physical issues they have to go through just to live. also, not to be forgotton, you often have to wipe a bulldogs bum after every poop if you want to keep everything sanitary, as often their asshole is situated in an inconvenient place.
This is definitely not the experience everyone has with English Bulldogs at all. They’re not runners, but mine have certainly never foamed at the mouth or required wiping. The largest issue have been cherry eyes, and the time our current guy ate a small avocado pit that a family member dropped and it caused a blockage. He has very minor skin allergies so he needs a bath every few weeks, and you need to clean his folds, but he’s pretty low maintenance otherwise. He’s having some mobility issues now but it’s expected at his age. My parents recently got a dog stroller so he can still go around the neighborhood for an hour and it’s stinking adorable. Before anyone comes after me, we got him from an elderly couple that could no longer care for him after their son moved away and couldn’t take him.
@@laurenr8977 I'm VERY glad that your dogs are doing well and don't have issues. And I will agree with you. Some ARE better then others. But as someone who sees many dogs from many different breeders and many different families it doesn't seem right to continue exaggerating their already exaggerated features through breeding. I'm sure you know this, but something is seriously wrong when an animal is unable to reproduce without human intervention. They are limited in life by their features which are a result of our aesthetic desires. I don't think that's fair to them. they also can't pant effectively, meaning they have trouble regulating their temperature and are dangerously uncomfortable in the heat. Google BOAS if you haven't already.
As the owner of two English bulldogs. It's refreshing to see groomer the know so much about each breed. You're simply great at what you do for a living. PS every Bulldog owner should have the Bulldogs soft palate scoped and removed. It's like a tonsillectomy they can add five years to your Bulldog my oldest one is 14.
You're a terrible, selfish person for owning these dogs and encouraging breeding dogs that need surgery.
It's awful how they have bred bulldogs, some of them can hardly breathe and they have a massive underbite.

Serious question & absolutely no judgement- My brother has 3 & all 3 had to have surgery to have part of their pallet removed so they could breath better. I was the one to provide their pick up & after care as I was able to give 24/7 care for a few days. The vet explained that bulldogs are pretty high up there when it comes to medical issues from modern breeding practices. A few other bulldog owners have agreed while some swear it's lies. Have you had any problems with your own bulldogs health?

There’s apparently an effort to create “retro-pugs” with longer snouts and less health issues. It seems like a slow, but worthwhile, solution.

Yeah, i am glad it is being talked about more. I hope confirmation shows also start penalizing super flat faces and over the top wrinkles -- or breeders start breeding longer snouts regardless of what the dogshow world thinks. In general they are very sweet dogs and they don't deserve the problems they're dealt.
Hearing that even this five month old had troubles breathing with a hood was surprising to hear, and sad :( I respect that she was honest about their health problems.

They're not happy. Just like Persians and other flat-faced cat breeds, they're doomed to a short life full of suffering.
I love when you talk about purebred breeds and always say "if you want one, I hope you're rich" it's such a good reminder that these dogs come with a lot of responsibility, so you should be prepared to spend money.
This video helped me understand why I don't see many bulldogs or short-legged dogs in my neighborhood.

I love English Bulldogs, my grandfather had one. She passed away just a few months after he had, she was actually pretty old but when he was gone she just seemed to not have the will to go on herself. I loved that snorting farting lump of dog.

I LOVE HER!!!! I remember years ago giving my dad's bulldog a bath with him when he was about that old. We tied him to a plastic chair and he hated the bath. Well he was strong enough st that time to pull the leg off the chair I was sitting on. So he bolted for it, and took the chair down with him.

I feel so sorry for bulldogs and pugs when I see them. They've been bred into massive genetic problems with their airways and legs that they have to live with because of people who do not understand what they're doing to the dogs. I'm generally against government imposing too much on people, but breeding dogs into such defects should be illegal.
A guy in the Netherlands bred out the squished nose out of pugs and is offering the "healthy" option. (Health, being a subjective thing that can be influenced by other factors than genetics.)
Or worse, they understand but don't care because it's cute.
Same with all the other flat face dog breeds. It's cruel. They struggle breathing when I see them at the dog park.

I have a rescue English bulldog and he is the most amazing dog I have had and although I would love another bulldog I cant do it. My dogs name is happy and he is the happiest dog ever but when I see him struggling to breathe at the park I cry it's awful I will never add to the problem of breeding any of the flat nosed dogs. Thus far we have gotten lucky with ours he has very good breeding and no health problems at the moment but they don't have a long life expectancy for a reason and any dog that cannot naturally give birth to puppies shouldnt be breed they almost always need a c section it's sick
After seeing a lot of bulldogs suffering from some of the health issues involved with their breed around my area I am so very lucky that my family’s British bulldog Henry has done extremely well, no cherry eye, no bowed legs and currently he’s outliving his average life expectancy. We got really lucky with him

Aw my dad used to have a bulldog, its name was gumby, he *loved* my mom, he died 2-3 years ago, he was 16!
I thought that was a good age for any dog, but then I googled the life span of a bulldog 😢😟. I wish they had longer lifespans. I have a really good feeling Little Gumby lived his best life, and was well cared for. I'm sorry for ya'lls loss!

I like bulldogs, but I wish they'd breed them with more of a muzzle. They have so many health problems.
Back in like the 40s they did have more of a muzzle but over the years of human intervention they've gotten worse in health and have completely lost their original look

@@cjr1881 it's true though. When you look at pictures of some breeds from the 1900-1920s, many of them look much less extreme than today. Shar peis, bloodhounds, Neopolitan mastiffs and Basset Hounds had some wrinkles, but they hardly looked like the hanging sacks of skin they are today (the Neopolitan mastiffs example is especially shocking). German shepherds had a straight, normal back and not the bizarre frog legs they have now. Bull terriers didn't have heads that looked like grains of rice. Pugs, French Bulldogs and Bulldogs didn't have flat profiles, they had actual snonts albeit still stubby.
What is disturbing is many breeders will also claim that there is a reason behind some of their extreme physical traits, yet when you look at old pictures and paintings of those dogs -- from back when they were actually being used for their intended purpose -- they didn't look nearly as extreme. We need to stop rewarding extremes conformations in the show rings, especially as a large portion of breeders feel the need to participate in them in order to be seen as legitimate.

We had a womderful Engl. bulldog Winston. He helped teach a lil' baby boy, our neighbor, how to walk. The little boy Kyle put his arm out to steady himself with our dog, who slowed his pace to exactly match the child's. A lifetime sweet memory.
A Very loving, most loyal, and upbeat personality. He had seizures in his latter years, & lived to about age 7.
We were Winston's 2nd owners.

I like the way you told the truth about the horrible breeding we’ve subjected brachy dogs to but still being kind to the individual dog.
The folds also get yeast infections along with the bacteria. I work at a vet hospital and this is one of the biggest things we deal with on a daily basis, and not just for bulldogs.
Pet owners, like she said, if your pet gets wet, be sure to dry them off as thoroughly as you can, and make sure to keep their ear canals dry as well. This will help prevent yeast infections and save you a trip to the vet. Plus it will smell way better.
