After all that tactical mayhem and stress, the resource collecting part came as a decompression in the final part of each mission. I remember reading a whole book while the collectors were doing their thing in the background. What an amazing game!
Hah, I remember reading and finishing a whole book while the harvester fleet was doing its job in the background after every mission. The Naked Sun by Asimov, if I remember right. Everytime I see that book, I immediately associate it with Homeworld.
Just had a random thought "Theres a lot of ambience in YT about stuff....Wait! Is there one about Homeworld with occasional radio chatter?!" And lo and behold, there it is duude. If I ever plan to run the Traveller RPG I'll be sure to use this as background noise.
