Great video Kevin. This was definitely a lot of fun, the anticipation of waiting for the list and then your always welcoming pleasant demeanor bringing it home. This is my first winter smoking a pipe, I only started in early January. But I jumped right in and I’ve tried 10 or so different blends. I definitely like them all from the basic Americans to the aromatics all the way to the heavy English blends. I’m happy to say that I’ve already gotten a chance to try the plum pudding and that was my pic. That is a serious smoke. I don’t smoke it all the time but it always satisfies. There are many on this list that I am looking forward to trying but I think my next couple new tobaccos will be the lane 1Q and the Northwoods. Like you said, it seems to be a right of passage. That old dark fired is catching my attention as well.

Appreciate your time doing this Kevin . Being a newbie with limited funds and no brick & mortar shops nearby , Northwoods is the only one on the list I have had a chance to try . I enjoy all the reviews however and can be knowledgeable of my selections when I get a chance to order some online .

Kevin. Have you tried Seattle Pipe Club’s RAINIER LEVANT? IT is my favorite. So far it is the only one that I can get a dominant flavor. It is a floral, lavender. Be blessed my friend. John
I don’t think I have, if I did it was years ago. If you enjoy floral essence be sure to research blends with Lakeland Essence. I talk about this in my GH Bob’s Chocolate Flake review

Since I found this channel about 3 days ago I already watched more than half of your videos and they are all great and enjoyable. I know I'm so late on this one and it's certainly not cold anymore but I wanna say I really like Ashton Artisan's blend and I would like to add Peterson Irish flake, one of my all time favorites. I only have a little less than one year experience but wanted to share my opinion. Hope everyone has a great day.

I’ve never seen Lane 1Q at a reasonable price in the UK , but Gaywith Hoggarth do American Delite tobacco which is I’ve heard a very good shot at Lane Limited 1Q ..And of course for anyone wanting to try an English type tobacco then Peterson Early Morning Pipe is an excellent first step for the newer piper being not so strong as Nightcap.

A fun list, Kevin, and also a testament to the strong influence of the YTPC. Apart from the tobacco at #8, you would find that the other 7 are among the most frequently mentioned by other pipers in any context. That's also how tobaccos trend and become difficult to get. Only a few presenters locate and review largely 'unknown' blends.
Yes, most of these have gained significant traction over recent years, but for good reason! All are quite enjoyable and are readily accessible

I've been pipe smoking for less than a year so far, and I have tried a lot of tobaccos. Only two of my favorites were on this list, but I find it amazing how many of these I've not tried yet. Thanks for sharing everyone, good stuff.

A great list indeed! Was a bit surprised more seasonal blends didn’t make the cut like Cringle Cake, Rattray’s Holiday blend, etc.
Cringle Flake is popular and one of the better Sutliff offerings for sure

I have been anxiously awaiting this list ever since you posed the question. I got to say the only one that was a surprise for me was 1-Q. I've always considered that one a year round everyday smoke. Not necessarily a seasonal blend but I can definitely appreciate 1-Q.

That's a pretty good list Hobbiton team! Well done. Enjoyed it as always Kevin. (Although for me, Plum Pudding is one that I wouldn't touch even if it was the only blend available...) What can I say? This hobby is truly subjective, which is what makes it so fun!
Very true! What’s great is there is something out there for everyone to connect with and enjoy. I find it fascinating
Right now my go to winter smokes are: HH ODF, Amphora Burley, Scottish Cake, Haunted Bookshop, OJK White, 1-Q/HBS mixed, Westminster, Bill Bailey's Balkan. I ran out of Nightcap, Quiet Nights and Artisan Blend last winter and haven't picked up more. Pretty much burley/ kentucky blends and heavier englishes are perfect for cold weather.
Oh! And I also love Sir Walter Raleigh and Burley Without A Bite for lighter winter smokes when I'm out and about or driving.

Great video and thanks for compiling this data! It feels like Northwoods popularity has been growing exponentially the last couple of years (though that could just be my perception). I tried it for the first time this fall and it’s absolutely a go-to for me now! I got to get around to trying Plum Pudding.

Love the video Kevin! What a wonderful list! Love it. Own all of them on the list so dont have ro make a special order but wow, what a great list:
8) I own some tins of the Articins blend but haven't smoked any yet. Letting it get some age on it.
7) Gaslight is delicious. Cellaring it too.
6) Lane 1-Q is always tasty and is up there with my any time of year favorites.
5) Old Dark Fired. Always tasty. Love it. Probably makes my top 10 (I think)
4) Quiet Nights was my pick - absolutely love it.
3) NightCap - have not smoked any but own a few tins.
2) Boswell Northwoods is high on my list for sure. Love it Countryside and just about all of their English blends.
1) Plum Pudding is super tasty - love it. One of my all time favorites. Possibly 3 of my all time favorites. So good!

Lane 1-Q, Night Cap, and Northwoods are the only blends from this list I have tried. I do have an un-opened can of Quiet Nights, but I'm not a fan of the spicy English blends.

Ashton's Artian's Blend is one of my top 2 Favorite blends. GL Pease Meridian and Chelsea Morning rounding it out.

You and I might be long lost brothers, just kidding but those are my top 3 blends also. Just swap Chelsea Morning with Artisans Blend and Meridian coming in at #3.
Excellent video! I perused the comments to see if my question was already addressed. Can you please lead me to where I can find a blue stem like you have on that cob? It's gorgeous. I have a Missouri Meerschaum Cobbit Dwarf that I think would look great with one. BTW, this morning I'm smoking CAO's Eileen's Dream (great year-'round, IMO) in my new Baraccini Mare Blu 673 -- a delightful smoke in a delightful pipe. Cheers, brother!

It’s quite flavorful and striking, even for the novice pipe smoker. It definitely gets folks attention and is normally readily accessible which helps. I remember being wow’d by it myself very early in my first year of pipe smoking. But even down the road, it’s still an excellent blend.
Kevin: I've been getting into Barking Dog Match and Holiday Mixture Match. They have latakia but also burley and perique, so some call them American/English. They taste like an English with some extra seasoning plus some topping. They are considered codger blends. By the way, How about them Hawgs beating Kentucky yesterday!

You're fun to watch. I knew you were describing plum pudding at the end. I would honestly switch Plum Pudding for Northwoods, but they are both super different and amazing in their own way. Also, did I miss it? I didn't see Bengal Slices.

Great list! I have every tobacco you mentioned except Northwoods. I have yet to try anything from Boswell's, need to change that soon.
I'm not surprised plum pudding made number 1, I just wish I liked it more. For some reason the flavor falls completely flat after the first third of the bowl for me. It's really disappointing... I really like the other offerings from SPC that I've tried so far, not sure what the issue with plum pudding is. I've tried the original and the special reserve with the same results. I also have a tin of sr flake I've yet to try but I'm not holding my breath.
Boswell makes some great blends. My favorite of theirs is Countryside so be sure to get some of that if you order (I’ve reviewed it). Yeah it’s unlikely the SPC PP SR Flake will magically make you like the blend if you aren’t a fan of the other PP offerings. Some blends just won’t connect with you and that’s ok! Many others will :)
TR Ratings on the choices in order of Kevin’s presentation: (1) Ashton’s Artisan Blend = 3.53; (2) GLP’s Gaslight = 3.32; (3) Lane Limited’s 1Q = 2.78; (4) MacBaren HH Old Dark Fired = 3.56; (5) GLP’s Quiet Nights = 3.52; (6) Peterson’s Nightcap = 3.46; (7) Boswell’s Northwoods = 3.53; (8) Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding = 3.48.
In my opinion, these are excellent choices - I have all but the Boswell, and in the case of the Plum Pudding, I only have the ‘special reserve.’ I’d also note that I’ve seen a tendency on TR (Tobacco Reviews) to diss Aromatics in general - 1-Q is stellar, perhaps not complicated, but I believe should always be in one’s repertoire, if not for itself then for its blending characteristics.
I am however confused about the white stuff on the ground and why there is the need for the heavy clothing in the heartland of America?

I was able to try several different HU blends and really enjoyed them (see my HU “Smoke With Me” video)! I wish they were more accessible here in the States. Winter Moroccan Bazaar sounds great!

Depends on what you are comparing it to, but higher than many blends, yes. That being said, it may not affect you at all. Everyone reacts differently to blends.
