    "He should play the music as written or not play it at all." Chopin 1843
    He would be turning in his grave now lol. Keep up the good work man! Loved this version of Chopin!

      I'm not a Chopin expert, but as I understand it he mostly took issue with pianists (namely Liszt) who would go off on really long and overly complex tangents that were hard for difficulty's sake and tended to bring the actual music to a screeching halt. Basically the "guitar wank" of the day. I'm not so sure he'd have a big problem with this since it's mostly just a reimagining or rearragement rather than blatantly showing off.
      But yeah, either way, this is fantastic.

    • @ErikCPianoman
      @ErikCPianoman 7 років тому +27

      KoboldCommando also Liszt was infamous for going into concerts 'unprepared' and he'd sightread pieces, improvise and embellish them on the spot and dazzle people with his technical prowess. This ticked off the Schumann's and that whole crowd (I believe Clara complained in her diary that she can't understand how Liszt can play a piece in a concert without having practiced it first and how disrespectful that is to the piece and the audience). Liszt had many 'enemies' but he also had usually found a way to get on people's good side. Also people respected his command of the keyboard. In fact Chopin dedicated his op. 10 set of etudes to Liszt and upon hearing him play some for the first time, Chopin exclaimed something along the lines of "this is how I imagined they should be played".

      I've never understood why we should even care what Chopin would think about how his music is treated, given the obvious irrelevancy of the emotional experience of a dead person.

      Kristian J. Respect isn’t given to make the person you are respecting feel good, it is to make yourself feel good and to honour that person’s wishes. I never improvise whatsoever with Chopin because he is known to have written music that was not meant for unnecessary embellishment.

    The great classical pianist Vladimir Horowitz was so impressed by a performance of the piece “Tea for Two” by the great jazz pianist Art Tatum that he asked Tatum for a copy of the score, to which Tatum is said to have replied: “I was only improvising.”

    Revolutionary etude is one of the most important etudes Chopin wrote. It talks about Warsaw bombardment, blood, tears, death, sacrifice, loneliness, etc. Pianist is great of course but for me, when i know story of this piece, its not that funny.

    • @GelleSzebasztian
      @GelleSzebasztian 8 років тому +8

      It is not funny for me at all, but it is pleasant for me to hear the fusion of good music, and in my opinion this version still expresses these "images" just with some new different tools of expressions.

      I don't think a piece's background has to be taken into account to give a good performance. I absolutely respect the piece and Chopin himself because of the inspiration the original piece came from, but that doesn't mean that it is prohibited from being elaborated on. Variations are usually done purely from a musical perspective.

As in my case they couldn't help but exuberantly express their enthusiasm.and joy. I loved it the first time I heard it and I'm sure I'll hit a hundred
