Bonjour, October had always been my favorite time of year. I love witnessing the colors of nature change, deepen, flying and falling to the ground. The golden low light of day…the indescribable smell of cooler temperatures and yes, my birthday! My favorite -what-I-jokingly pegged a “Holiday” where I choose to celebrate my life and feel very grateful for it. For living. Experiencing those near misses along with great successes! My life was a challenge but balanced and I appreciated my journeys as much as possible. I used that day, my birthday, October 16 to reflect and rejoice. But this October was by far one of my most undesirable months. Justin and I both caught Covid, my second time and not another easy one to recover from. Laffy ate mushrooms and spent 2 days in the hospital and then tragically of all days he managed to sneak out the garden and find his way meandering the streets. We didn’t know. Justin returned from working on the other side of the garden and found Laffy laying down on the grass and panting by the garden door he’s used to wiggle his way out. We immediately rushed him to the pet hospital assuming he was attacked by another dog. In the car I kept looking back at him and his panting looked as though he was smiling at me. His mouth wide and eyes full of excitement that he was in the car. He was so strong. But then…soon after arriving to the Veterinarians, Laffy was gone. He passed away from internal bleeding. A swollen abdomen, evident bruising and blood from his mouth. The Doctor told us that a car most likely hit him. Who knows by whom. No one has come forward.
Laffy found his way back home. He managed to return home. That strong little fur soul. He found his way back so that we could find him.
We took him back home right away and in the morning Justin picked out his burial home, just underneath one of our walnut trees with views of the most glorious sunrises and the Pyrenees mountains in the distance. We held a little memorial for 2 and placed a large slab of slate over his grave. The same color of his coat. We held to one another tightly and every day since.
He wasn’t just an animal for us. He was a part of our little family. He was a member and equally treated as one. He ate what we ate. Nearly traveled with us everywhere and was loved and cared for and spoiled. He was like a child I can never have. He will always be missed, loved and remembered.
RIP Laffy, the one with the purest and most unconditional love of all.

I’m so sorry to hear about Laffy.. my heart is bleeding for you and with you, I lost my darling Freddy 6 months ago and I still feel very broken.. some days I can laugh about him and his adorable silly ways and some days I cry .. but every single day I miss him.. take care of yourselves and go gently 🐶🕯️🙏🏼

Oh so sorry about Laffy. You were both terrific loving parents to your fur baby! The room is so very pretty. However, not sure very practical, what happens when red wine gets spilled? I would reconsider white on a couch. Also a comfy foot stool, lamps for reading and nightstands would be a consideration. Most guests need a nightstand, and a place to put your luggage. I seldom put clothes in a dresser. I prefer to leave them in the suitcase, unless I am hanging them. I did not see any hooks for jackets, hats, purses, totes. A rug would be nice too. Lovely video.

So so sorry to hear the news about sweet Laffy. This is the second channel that I follow that has lost a loved pet in tragic circumstances in the last month (Chopper the Labrador at La Moulin Roche). Try to take comfort in the fact that he was hugely loved & had a great life with you. I have gone through the same loss 6 times now & it never gets any easier. Maybe one day you will be able to open your heart to a rescue dog in France as there are so many that need homes❤️
Can I offer a few suggestions about the gite? As someone who has stayed in quite a few, I find that matching night stands either side of the bed are almost essential. You need a lamp for reading & somewhere to put a book, glass of water, glasses etc.
although I love your picture gallery above the fireplace, have you thought about doing a similar thing with gold framed mirrors? You have some small ones on the wall which look somewhat ‘bitty’ & lost but if you grouped them all together above the fire (including the long one on the left hand of the fireplace) it would be much more dramatic. Otherwise it is a beautiful tranquil space to stay in.

He was! I wish it weren’t so hard but it’s getting easier now…I’m so happy he’s lived a wonderful life.

Very sad to hear of Laffy passing away. Time is a great healer Jenny and Justin. The light in the gite is beautiful. If you rent out for the winter? Why not have the bed opposite the fire so they look at the lit fire, the mirror on what was the bed head wall, and settee where it is now should that work?

Dear Ones, so very shocked saddened for your loss of Laffy. He charmed us all. Hes so cute. He was just playing fetch earlier while watching you spruce up the gite. It seems very sudden. Had he been ill?
Ive rescued 9 dogs in 15 yrs. All but 3 of them were very young. 6 of them have passed in my arms at the vet after suffering long illnesses in less than 4 years.
Each one different from the other. 2 were sisters i hand raised from 15 Oz. Theyre all like children to me. Nala had to go to her peace May
12. Followed by Nova on September 26. This has been a year of loss for many of us. Heartbroken.

Love your room , the large gilded mirror especially ❤ two things I would change from a styling point of view , is I would group all the candle sticks together to one side in different height orientation , to one side and placing the pictures to the other side , again in different size orientation. And the outdoor chair’s defiantly should go outside where they belong. They look awkward , cluttering the space and not needed in that room ! In the far corner , I would place an antique or vintage chair or even another chest of draws making the space so-metrical to the fireplace 😊I would like to also offer my deepest condolences for the loss of your beautiful boy Laffy! I know first hand how sad it is to lose a beloved pet, that is part of your family. May all the beautiful memories bring you joy and peace 🙏🥰

Justin and Jeni, I’m so very sorry to hear of your loss. I was flooded with memories of when I lost my dog, my best friend, my companion. The one that loved me unconditionally. The tears and sadness took awhile but they eventually turned to the best of memories. There are so many of us out here that you don’t know, but we have been following your journey. So sorry you lost your beloved Laffy. He was born the same year as one of our dogs who died 2 yrs ago. Our dogs are definitely part of our family and I know the loss and pain you must be experiencing. It sounded very sudden.

Put sofa underneath the window on one side put a accent, chair there where you have the small mirror next to the sofa but a sofa table there or a desk and then you have the wall on the other side free so can add more furniture too like a hutch bookshelf, 😊
At the end of the bed put a bench there for storage add a mirror above the fireplace to bring more light and make the room look larger
The wall art place it above the desk over there by the sofa
And then add the wall art to the opposite side of the fireplace above the dresser so on the other side of the desk there would be wall art, so it matches on both sides 😊
All wonderful advice thank you! A mirror above the mantle place, two balancing painting on each side of the wall and a sort of desk or round table for eating would be ideal on the blank wall. Also, those chairs have got to go! 💕
