Villa were 100% not in the Champions League in 1996! Only one team was in it at that time. It was the 80’s they were in it (European Cup). Joe showing his age here.

Correction for Joe: Villa did not play in the Champions League in 1996. They finished 4th in 95/96 season to qualify for the UEFA Cup. They were knocked out the 1st round of the UEFA Cup by Helsingborgs in 96/97.

If you don't know, the Champions League, at that time, is still restricted for the domestic winners. UEFA allowed non-domestic winners to participate in this competition starting in 1999/2000 season.

New award should be Rookie of the year. Qualifications are Have to be promoted from the academy, started the season 19 or younger, and have less than 10 apps prior to the start of the season. Kobbie Mainoo would be the winner this season

Big Corrections: This is the first time Aston Villa will have the Champions League football since the competition was rebranded from European Cup. They last time participated it in 1983 as a defending champions. They were knocked out by Juventus in the quarterfinal.
Out of liverpools attackers Diaz is the one i’m most comfortable with leaving, he runs a lot and never stops trying but it feels like he doesn’t actually threaten goalkeepers often enough maybe slot will get the most out of him

Crazy Cole Palmer is hyped up for scoring penalty kicks. As much as Cole was involved with the successful attacks with Chelsea he was still on an underperforming billion dollar Chelsea squad that failed to make Europe again. Man scored one good goal this season.

As a Liverpool fan I have to agree with Dougie about Diaz, he's missed a lot of chances and seems like hes unable to score in so many games. At least Darwin although misses a lot also scores more than Diaz and assists more than Diaz but still gets criticized more than Diaz despite having been undeniably better.

If you're building a team and you get a choice between only one of Rodri and Watkins, you take Rodri no question. There are plenty of players like Watkins. He's maybe had the best season out of all strikers in the league, but even still he won't start for the national team. Rodri has had an unbeaten season and is no doubt the most complete midfielder in the world.

Ive been saying it for a year that the last season was an anomaly for rashford. Only once prior to last season had he scored 20 or more goals every other season has has similar numbers to this one. But his overall perfomances have been off

Non penalty goals and assists gang, Watkins fully deserves POTY
Theiry Henry had 24 goals and 20 assists 02-03 and won pfa player of the year and had around 2-3 penalty goals. So Watkins is definitely one of the biggest contenders for the player of the year and 25 goal logic should not stand true.
These shouts seem to be heavily biased towards how teams have ended the season rather than taking the whole season into account it feels like.

Unai for me (as a Spurs supporter) tops Pep for MotY purely bc Pep - who is hands down brilliant ofc - has never managed a team that wasn’t highest spending in their league if not the world. Pep to solidify his legendary status, for me, needs to go to a Villa, or Spurs, or Leverkusen, or Bilbao, and build up from a position of not having a billion figure squad

Still don't think that's true because I don't think any manager can do what peps done , like look at how other teams have spent their money on players and have failed so massively , him being a world class manager has a lot to do with how all the teams he has managed became super teams. I saw another pundit say something that I agree with. Thinking back to last season, when Roy came in it coincided with him getting Olise and Eze back fit and the team started firing again. Again, the new manager arrives and coincides with Olise n Eze being back and having players like Wharton knocking about.
Has already aged badly with them finishing 10th! But I stand by it, if Dougie Freedman and Olise leave (interest around Eze and Mateta too and they'll be desperate to keep hold of Guehi and Andersen), then Glasner's job will be a lot tougher next year, in what will be a more competitive league than this year.

Moronic comments if I'm going to be honest about Man u. If any other big six team had the same injury problem we did none would've done as good except for city. Tottenham and chelsea probably would've been on a relegation battle. We had significant portions of the season with literally 9 injured cb and no available left backs on the entire season. Saying anything other than it was exclusively an injury problem is wild.
