Thank you so much! My rack came with two sets of bottom mounts (small and large) and it was creating a world of confusion 😭😭😭😭

Hi. Not sure I follow what you're saying. Once the J-Bars are attached to the roof rack, you don't have to do anything with the bolts to take the kayak on and off. You'd only adjust/remove the bolts if you wanted to take the entire J-Bar off. Feel free to send a link to whatever videos you're referencing. Thanks.

My assembly puts metal plate inside rubber sleeve. Look closely at sleeve and you see molded indents to accommodate plate. This way sleeve is against cargo crossbar reducing crossbar compression and slippage.

Hi R Mitch. That is interesting! I (Meg) am kind of a stickler for detail, so I went back and looked at the printed manufacturer's installation instructions, plus checked out the video instructions of a few other identical models on UA-cam, and they all had the metal plate on the outside of the rubber sleeve. Having said that, I do agree with you that it could go on the inside and that it does make some sense to be there, for the reason you state and also to provide some scratch resistance to the cross bar. It seems that the other, smaller attachment plate would also have a rubber sleeve if it were intended to be used this way though, perhaps? Thanks for the comment!

I agree with you as my instructions and watching youtubes say what you say. What bothered me was my rubber sleeve definitely has molded locations on the inside for the large plate.

Hi there. Maybe we will consider adding an "installation" video. This one was really just intended to show you how to assemble it properly.
