    If erupting soon or in 5 years does not make any difference when the population is not evacuated and the settlements moved to a save location. Same as usual - trillions spent on wars and not a dime on something that benefits the "normal" population and human life in general.
    It's like we are living in a death cult.
    I wonder how big those berms would need to be 🙂. I find Grindavik insane already where we have decided to protect a little town and facilities that sit right on a volcano field. What's wrong with us people really? We call us intelligent but in these cases (same with these insane wars) I look for signs of intelligence - heart intelligence to be precise because the brain and mind can come up with any s*** and believe it's sane when it is not.

      While I think that people should not live in the proximities of any volcano, ever, I am aware that those trillions you speak of are not a sort of reserve that anyone has access to as needed, freely. That does not exist anywhere. I don't think the area towns have the funds to do a massive evacuation of residents, their belongings, businesses... AND improvise a safe place for everyone to live with all the perks of modern living, and not a refugee camp-like setting. I don't even believe that the Italian government has the free funds to build whole cities in a whim to relocate all the people living in Campi Flegrei.... It is the people living there that must recognize the danger and decide to move away. That's it, and that is not an easy task for most people.

      @@10whitelilith10 There's always the human inertia of wishful thinking ("nothing's going to happen!") or the perception of feeling powerless to do anything (as we see here).
      We see this repeated in history, particularly with Pompeii, and also Mount Pelee's 1902 eruption. Both had enough warning signs, and in both times people chose not to act.
      And by doing so, became a historical statistic.

    • @markusgorelli5278
      @markusgorelli5278 3 місяці тому

      @@10whitelilith10 Adding to shadowcatcherfox's comment, we do know that there were some wealthy people in Pompeii. I would imagine that some people delayed leaving BECAUSE of their wealth and nice villas that they did not want to abandon.
      We can give some leeway to the inhabitants of Pompeii and Mt. Pelee because they were probably not aware that a volcano could explode like that. Maybe the former thought that all they had to do was keep ash fall off their roofs and the latter that they just needed to keep an eye out for lava flows like in Iceland which are relatively easily avoided when they start to flow.
      But that isn't the case here. We do have some idea on what could happen - and that it could be worse than anything yet recorded. So as regard those who can in fact afford to move, apart from "nothing's going to happen" we can also have "I don't want to be the first" or "I don't want to go through all that trouble and then nothing happens and people look at me as a fool"

Historically speaking, Yellowstone has been much more violent, but it only has 16-20% melt in the magma chamber and thus not enough eruptible magma, eruptible magma has to be between 35-50% melt. Campi Flegrei, on the other hand, is officially classified as restless and the scientists have officially made a statement that they can't rule out an eruption in the short term.

      As far as I can tell, a planet-wide episode of erupting volcanos isn't possible because the individual mountains are not linked in any way. Cones in the same area or range may share a magma chamber, but more distant peaks do not. What we are experiencing is an end of a peaceeful period and the beginning of a more active epoch.

    It's time for folks to start listening to and understanding SCIENCE and FACTS. This is not a supernatural or divine progression of events, and neither are any other naturally occuring phenomena going on. Religion, and the beliefs you believe in, should be kept well out of scientific discussions. A good few replies on here are from people who clearly forget that one person's religious beliefs can be vastly different from someone else's. Not only does a belief only work for the believer, it is too often forgotten that their belief is frequently anywhere on the scale between laughable and grossly offensive to others. Keep up the good work @silki24 , your dedication and commitment is very much appreciated. Regards from Lancashire, UK.

    If we would be able to understand the how when and why, then we would be able to predict things going to happen better. For instance take Krakatao in Indonesia, the time it took to become dangerous again took around 120 years.
    We are having more means and instruments to look better and deeper into the earth. Looking with an open mind can tell us to change our point of view.
    How are magmachambers formed?
    Is it as we take for now or is it completely different from what we expect?
    Hypothetical taken, are they formed by a magma moving deeply under the crust, was a week spot the reason it created a massiv chamber?
    Is this river of magma still flowing through it?
    As magma needs high temperature to keep fluid, howcome it isn't when its in rest not changing in rock.
    So only movement, or air coming to it can keep it flowing..
    With finding the right answers that could explain movements you can start prediction. Without proof it keeps a game of chance. As it is now developing its a assumption game.

    • @nnonotnow
      @nnonotnow 3 місяці тому

      Magma is fluid under the crust. It's called lava when it reaches the surface. It's liquid state does not require motion.

      @@nnonotnow sorry, but this action is to wake up people. Scientist who are mostly looking from one perspective. I know very well that when magma reaches through the crust its called lava.
      And if you look at the earth crust its mostly build of layers upon layers of lava where faultlines or weakpoints in the earthcrust are messured.
      If you witnessed a say it coincidence, a reaction between earthquakes on a certain point and a little then 2 hours later an outburst of a volcano, would you then still kept focus on magmachambers are the reason for a eruption or are you willing to change your perspective, sight at things if you reached a hundred percent score? So can action and reaction be different of what we take as a standard! I think looking with more perspective could mean a better understanding of the earth and how it works.

    • @D3m3nz4
      @D3m3nz4 3 місяці тому

      That would be pretty much impossible. Even it's smaller eruptions have been mostly been a VEI 4. The little eruption in 1538 was one of the smallest eruptions (VEI 2) and built Monte Nuovo in a week, with the bulk of the new cone being built in just 24 hours. It generated almost continuous explosions mainly phreatomagmatic, producing pyroclastic density currents. If an event of just that size happened today it would kill hundreds of thousands of people. Even a VEI 3 would be problematic, god forbid a VEI 5 or higher, which it has done before just 50 year after it's prior eruption.

    The problem is not a volcano or an iceage ! The problems are politics and politicians that are thinking in terms of 1800-1900 !
    If an iceage ocurs after an eruption, of one of the supervolcanos, then productivity - (maybe) from farmproducts (food) in the US (one of the world wide biggest producers) - gets lost for some years or decades.
    The ONLY thing that will help if productivity get's lost, is to replace this lost productivity !
    In an Iceage maybe its possible today, to water north africa and replace the Sahara dessert with farmland - like the Sahara was a few thousend years ago !
    But the politicians are thinking in the old terms of Colonialtime an Leadership with military force.
    But this will not help if productivity gets lost !
    We also would be able to define laws that can handel mass migration - but therefore we have to give up old lawsystems.
    The know how is existing - but not used from those people who are responsible to use it !

I really don't want to be right again but it is looking incredibly likely that we are on the verge of a cataclysmic event and I really do hope that any people in the immediate danger zone who do wish to flee have the option to do so, very soon ideally. That said, if this bad boy blows then the vast majority of us are pretty screwed anyway. Add to this the Mount Helens news along with the ongoing lava vs the Lagoonies situation and it sure feels like the planet is up to something super sketchy. Terrifying but it is what it is.

    What I try to imagine is the moment at which the realization comes for the responsible specialists and government people. Let's say next week there's another 4.x earthquake and two days later the fumaroles at Solvatara increase their temperature by 3º...
    I'm not a volcanologist, so I don't know the triggering points that initiates red alert.
    But let's add one more worry-moment: within two days another 1 or 2 cm uplift is added.
    How much time will be left (once the red alert is given) for the people to evacuate? What I mean is... this is not Yellowstone, this is not St. Helens... this is in the middle of a big city with 3 million people on top of a huge pressure cooker without safety pin. How much time is needed to get them out and relocate them? Is one week enough? I doubt it. One month?
    Or will this be just guesswork... so help them God?
    I'm worried for the (many) people.

    Ok, I know it is a minor point when or if CF goes, it will be bad for Europe, but Campi Flegrei is NOT a super volcano. It has never produced a VEI 8 in the past which is the definition of a super volcano. When you talk about science, specificity is important.

      it is one as it has erupted more than 240 million cubic square km , that is the benchmark

    • @braggarmybrat
      @braggarmybrat 3 місяці тому +1

      I agree, that is the benchmark, however CF has not met it. Here's a quote: "Non-scientific media have described the area as a supervolcano[2] but it does not meet the criterion set by vulcanologists: an eruption with a volcanic explosivity index (VEI) of 8,[3] the largest recorded value on the index. This means the volume of deposits for such an eruption is greater than 1,000 cubic kilometers (240 cubic miles).[4] The Neapolitan Yellow Tuff eruption (about 12ka BP) produced "just" 50 cubic kilometers.[5] It is, however, one of relatively few volcanoes large enough to form a caldera." But as I said, whether it's a 6 7 or 8, it will still be a bad day.
