You are amazing mr katz i appreciate your years of experience and the want to teach im 28 and have been a finish carpenter for about 7 yrs now this information is amazing
Sometimes to avoid the raw cut face from soaking up the glue I spread glue over the cut face and seal it by smearing it into the face with my finger. Let it dry and then do the final glue up
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I bought several of your books and dvds . And if I had any questions you got back to me in a timely manner, I also enjoyed the pencil and decal that you sent as well
The first rule of carpentry is you have to have music on. The radio and coffee pot is the first thing that gets set on the work table. I refuse to even put my pouch on or unload the saws until the music is on, lol.
@@weekendwarrior3420 Oh man that brings back bad memories. I was using 18 gauge to so it was like a one in a billion shot and I was amazed it even penetrated the copper, was a slow leak so it took weeks for the Freon to get low enough for them to notice it. Then even longer to figure Where, what and how as the Freon just evaporated and didn't leak out the wall like water would.. So by the time they got to me, they were not happy to say the least Yep, your tip is the best one in the comments in my opinion, lol.
lol, you noticed that to. I cant say nothing though as I put nothing nor do I use a string line. I eye-ball it, if it is really bad I slide my scraper behind it pry it out and shot a nail while prying which holds it there maybe a second one if its a big gap, as the painters are coming right behind me with the caulk which becomes a shim in my opinion. Not saying the real shim is not better but base pays little to nothing in new construction and if your not knocking out the whole house in a day you would make more money being a Walmart door greeter, lol at least in Texas that's the way it is now.
50:35 Sorry, but these self-returns look ugly. Self-returns only look good if they are associated with and punctuate another element such as a column or a window. The first one was asking for a plinth block or thicker casing, the next one creates that weird triangle "cutout" instead of just terminating to the casing...
You know, I just LOVE IT when someone complains about something that someone else put a lot of effort into and put up on YT for FREE! Thanks for the laugh!! But the reason the background music is high is because the original audio from the DVD's contained music that YT wouldn't allow, so I had to drown it out with additional background music. I'm so sorry if you were disturbed by it!!! :)
Thank you for making these available, Gary - they are great.

Good tip, especially when working with MDF--it's called priming with glue, or pre-glueing. Great idea!

It would be easier to understand all his words without the music.
it would be easier to have a discussion without all the whining
@@osmith5086 Welcome to utube. BTW, I think, comments help author earn money, so let's keep whining and whining about whining.

@@Kevin-mp5of That's a great idea to write into the contract.
Thank you mister, these videos have been a great help to me
The nails shouldn't be too long so they don't shoot right through water lines.
learned that one 25 years ago the hard way. shot through the Freon line for the AC, cost me more than the job was worth, lol
@@mwgrc ua-cam.com/video/wv7BTwHo7Ws/v-deo.html The funny thing is, he calls them "carpenters" for some reason.

Can baseboards be 7/16 off the floor?
Impressive skills!
thank you
I usually put glue on my shims so they don't fall down.

@@mwgrc I guess the purpose of the shim is to not let the nail suck it in, and it can fall down after that like a rocket stage :-)

poor audio quality, background music is more pronounced than your instruction
