I did the same. I am terrible when I am playing the game. I triple or quadruple-check switches. Going the wrong way is a massive time waste with the shunting train.
I've just unlocked my DE6 too. Loving the ability of the loco to haul the huge loads it can, though prepping said loads with a DE2 can be a pain. Also assembling the trains correctly, finding that hard. Had a load of empties from the Harbour to the Steel Mill last night that derailed right at the entry to the drop off track cost me my bonuses at the Goods Factory. Felt the time pressure with that delivery.
You completely nailed the aspect I enjoy the most out of this game. Juggling multiple jobs and bonuses is absolutely the most fun railroad gameplay out there. Can't wait for Simulator!
It is indeed one of the best game features. You can juggle with all kinds of jobs before activating them. It's good game design you can use de2 to prepare your "train" and then bring the de6 and haul it and all of this you can do freely without need to start the main hauling job. This is really good that we as players are able move cars as we wish and we can start job when train is already leaving the railyard 👍
Hit the "buy" button yesterday. Saw a couple of interesting things on their roadmap: 1.Future-proofing for AI trains, passenger transport and customization milestones 2.Double-tracks, passing sidings Ooohhh
I found the bug almost exclusively happening when you use the remote inside of the cabin. I think under some circumstances the game interprets your keyboard controls for the loco and remote simultaneously and this somehow confuses the engine. The simplest solution here is to not use the remote at all because the keyboard controls work regardless of where you are on the locomotive. The only thing you can't do without the remote is automatic coupling and decoupling.
Call me crazy but I decided to hall 5 cargos at once with the de2 from the harbour with only 10 hours in the game. It ended up being 1090 tons, I used 3 DE2’s it made it alright tbf but probably wouldn’t take anything more
I too am loving the DE6. Did a couple of jobs already and use the DE2 for shunting as well. Just started with the militairy, but Mil1 didn't yield any jobs in the harbor when i checked.. maybe i should go up the mountain to see if there's anything up there worth driving for :) I thought i had it made when i saw a 100.000+ job, but turned out that was militairy 3 licence.. doh! I'll get there eventually. Thanks for the videoseries, loving it!
Squirrel, I love watching you play the games I never would. You need to stop cutting it though, I will take silent squirrel for the whole duration of the mjob!
Just got the DE6 myself. I agree it is a joy to drive, but the visibility is murder; would be almost unusable if it wasn't for the remote. I know there are some railroads that run with the long hood forward. I have no idea how they can see going that way.
I use the 3rd way when counting which number I need to uncouple. Your first job consists of 12 cars, your second job consists of 4 cars that is 16 and you start with 1 (because of the loco) this is even easier in my opinion 1+12+4 boom 17 :D
Requires you to count all the jobs in front of what you want to drop and include multiple locos (if you have them) but ok. I prefer to count what I want to drop off the back 😊
What I like to do is to always haul a DE2 at the end of the train. Btw at the career manager you can use mouse controls, so you don't have to push the buttons below the screen.
You dont actually have to remove the loco from the consist (or from the line you dropped them off) to handout jobs. the only requirement is all the cars (of the job) must be inside the destiny line. it's just annoying to get out off the mess
By default, the stations are set to passthrough unless you have flicked them before or there are not passthrough lines in them (like food factory and town). i think it's good to leave them like that after you leave to minimize the screw-things-up chance
You could have let the oil cars roll with some brake on, flipped the switch and picked them back up after getting the bonus on both scrap jobs. You might even have been able to take the other logistic haul from the harbour!
This series has been an absolute Godsend in helping me get started after only buying the game last week, awesome content thanks Squirrel. Had similar issues with the remote myself after changing key binds, sometimes would lose throttle, other times throttle would jam on full and I couldn't slow it down. Reverted back to default controls and had no issues since
@RedcoatViking yeah that was sheer luck, usually I buy a game and it goes on sale the following week 😂 love the content btw those 3 minute reviews are a great way to see if a game appeals and is worth looking at further cheers
Can you detach rear cars let a gap develop before a split, after your engine and front cars pass the switch, pull the switch and let them roll into a different station while driving another train?
Great videos Squirrel, I´m thinking about buying this when the next big update lands..but to be frank, dosen´t it quick become boring? anything to use your money on? any competition? gameplay wise you know...
this has nothing to do with this video, but i am playing ets2 while watching this video. i was hiring new truckers for my company and than i saw a trucker named paul f with a very familiar face. so i did a little bit of research and yes its you XD. i fired directly one of my trucker to make room for you and hired you.
What makes Simulation so good is the fact Simulation teaches you how to do things, I learned how to do the Nürburgring thanks to Sim Racing, I am a Sim Racing freak, I do go on Euro Truck Simulator though for the chillax type gaming, This type of Simulation is so relaxing its daft that people are not using Simulation as a relaxant, Euro Truck Sim is relaxing, Euro Truck does the night time so well is crazy, It's like photo graphics, Same as AMS2 though, My favorite Sim racing title is AMS2 at the moment, My Dad was a Train driver for about 26 years for British Rail, Started with the freights then went passenger, On the intercity 125 during the 90s, My Dad put some hours in train driving I know that much, I actually remember going to work with my Dad when I was a kid, Even go in the cabin, But the engine room, Where they fixed the Engines and damn the Intercity 125 got a big engine, But they all have, lol.... Great way of learning how to do things is by way of Simulation, Ain't it beautiful, lol......
"Has the back of my train passed that point yet?" is the other use of your pocket watch or your own stopwatch. It's 36 seconds to do 100 meters at 10kph Your lengths were 203, 159 and 53 meters, for a total of 415 meters. 36 * 4.15 = 149.4 seconds at 10kph. Which then is... 75 seconds @20kph 50 seconds @30kph 38 seconds @40kph 30 seconds @50kph 25 seconds @60kph ... etc. Write that little chart out at the start and when you go past a an important point hit the timer. For safety use a slightly slower speed on the chart than what you're driving at, and there you go... at least as long as you don't need to time more than 1 point within the length of your train anyway.
I have just purchased the game after watching your gameplay :) just a quick question. How do you get full name of stations on the map? Mine are all abbreviated.
After the one drop off, could just threw the last drop just behind you before leaving the yards, watch your videos and listen to you self say ( " you could put your last drop off behind your loco and make very good time. Can't wait to get this in VR, seeing everyone playing Derail Valley, makes me love how you guys and girls are having a great time with this game. Awesome job with the videos, squirrel. Just can't wait to play with these trains. My kind of world I would live in. 👍
You keep talking about the logistical hauls needing to be split at the end, I've not played nor seen many LH jobs in video, but I don't know that I've seen any LH jobs need to be split. Put on sidings with other cars on it, yeah, but don't remember seeing any have to be split at the end. Not that they wouldn't, it wouldn't make sense to have a shunting job just to put away empty cars. I thought the term "logistical haul" didn't have to do with needing to do anything special with the cars, as in figuring out the logistics of making it happen, but the *railroad* logistics of having to move empty cars with no freight and therefore not making money but the cars do no good at the location they are. As in oil tankers do no good at the harbor, as they can't be loaded with oil there, so they have to be moved back to the oil well. Same with log cars from the sawmill, they end up there from bringing in logs but they have no other use other than returning empty to the forest to be loaded again.
Love the ease with which you move around the train and comment. Im a newb and spend each entire run staring at my dials and panicking about changing points. Great video
Is there anything stopping you from doing the exact same thing but instead of starting all three jobs at once, taking the Logistic Haul job with you and starting it at the Steel Mill after completing the freight hauls to get all three bonuses? Never played the game before but I do remember you can take jobs with you to keep them from despawning.
Having the loco on the tracks can prevent jobs spawning there in the future. There is usually atleast one track thats used for just servicing, no jobs can spawn there, so its fine to put your loco there
Yes I wish it was... Could see it having a friend run the second loco while in transit then shutting down and jumping ahead to set the switches up..... I can see that leading into the friend running a second train doing a different contract, so now you would be managing a train company... LOL
That oil drop, I was sitting here screaming at my monitor "NO NO NO THAT SWITCH!"
I did the same.
I am terrible when I am playing the game. I triple or quadruple-check switches. Going the wrong way is a massive time waste with the shunting train.

I've been waiting to see DE6 gameplay before I bite the bullet on my playthrough, thanks Squirrel!
I'd like to point out, you can manually switch a switch if you're on top of it. No need for the radio if you're on top of it.
With 3 DE6 engines you can haul up to 3200 tons on any slope in the game.
Really enjoying this series.
Hi Squirrel. The remote bug is annoying, but if you just turn it off and on again, and re-pair to the loco, that has always fixed it for me.
I found the bug almost exclusively happening when you use the remote inside of the cabin. Atleast its better than the SH282 in the visibility department, there the best place to stand is hanging onto the ladders on the side

Is there any sort of traffic in this sim, or is the player the only train in the game? I would like to see a review of that feature.
Player is the only traffic, yet.
I’ve heard they plan to add AI traffic and passing sidings and passenger trains in the future

This is the "Overhauled" version. The new version "Simulator" is coming June 30th 2023. It will be a free update to the game.
Why exactly should you remove the loco at the end of the job and where should it be put?
Having the loco on the tracks can prevent jobs spawning there in the future.
There is usually atleast one track thats used for just servicing, no jobs can spawn there, so its fine to put your loco there
if the remote bugs out just hit tab then bring remote back up it fixes that bug
