bro I just saw this live on YT last night, he must've been the first guy to get the orchestra synth thing on his guitar!!! All those string parts on this are Adrian's strat, so goofy
His lyrics can be a little on the nose. I prefer his guitar playing and singing to his lyrics.

3:55 is oddly nostalgic. The sound is muffled up as a clouded memory and its so sad. The best part of the song for me. Its feels like remembering something but its not like it used to be. Its simultaniously creepy, sad and nostalgic.

@@theancienteternaloaktree I was at their concert in 1995. “THRAK” Tour and Tony seems like a very cool and very busy guy who played three instruments bass, double bass, Chapman stick bass and sang backing vocals, I agree with you, he is a really secret weapon in KC, just an amazing tall, bald guy with moustache and one of the best bass players and musician in the world
@CrimsonGiant A very interesting part in the great song, which starts typically as KC, while Adrian's singing part evokes the spirit of The Beatles to the chorus, which has something of the old KC, as you said that part is a synthesis of nostalgia, sadness and something creepy and beautiful part too, where Adrian Belew plays on the guitar synth along with Levin’s beautiful double bass, imo that part is reminiscent of the orchestration of old horror movies from the 50s maybe even before, but it’s my opinion you don’t have to agree with me , but it incredibly reminds me of that kind of music.

I really like this album and this incarnation of King Crimson. This album is jam packed with great music to dig into. Adrian Belew really was a great addition to the band. He really brought vigor and life to the band. Also, I can relate to being a dinosaur. I was so delighted when the band reformed around 1996 and released this album and went on tour. It was the first time I got to see the band live. Never missed them after that. Thanks for sharing.
Can we all give a big hand to Mr. Fripp for not turning off the comments section to these new King Crimson releases. We love Crimson and want to express our feelings, God forbid the JoJo crowd get wind of this.

I've only had this CD for 15 years, but it absolutely blows my mind how modern it sounds every time I come back to it. This is how you do the perfect balance of heavy/dynamic.

For all the love I have for the first album, THIS is the King Crimson lineup I'll always remember. So many great musicians. Yeah, that Wally Cox lookin' guy was probably the most creative guitarist of the first generation (OK, Frank Zappa's probably the competition). I'm glad I was around when it all began back in the late '60s.
Dislike early King Crimson. Best sounding with newer releases to me. This song is GENIUS! Love the dissonance 🎉

Wonderful song. I find it perfect.
I just started getting into King Crimson and I can say that this is definitely some of the best stuff by them so far
I am not really a big fan of prog rock, I'm more into hard rock stuff, but I like King Crimson early albuns and this song... I think this song is perfect. The lyrics are great, the riffs are heavy and the melody is beautiful, sad, epic and mesmerizing all at the same time. This song is just... Jurassic. It's a T-Rex of a song.
Have you heard King Crimson's Red, it might be for you. It's like a prog band making a metal album. Starless is especially amazing!

Controversial but Thrak is in my top 3 Crimson albums. Bruford is on fire.
there's nothing controversial about that. KC's discography is so diverse that no one can tell you one album is better than the other. It's like comparing albums of different genres. Crimson is the king

Thrak is a fantastic album one of their best IMHO.The post 1980 magnificent trio being Discipline, Beat and Thrak.
Totally slept on. It's very solid. No doubt the most eclectic King Crimson album which makes it memorable in its own right. Jazz, funk, metal and ambient, is all mixed up in there somewhere.

my pops was a life long King Crimson fan, this album came out when i was in seventh grade and learned to program some radio station stuff. this was the first song i played on my extremely short lived channel

Seems like just yesterday in 1995 I bought this album (CD) before going to work in my cubicle. I must have listened all day, especially to this song. I remember thinking back then that rock had gone to crap, little would I realize how much worse things would get, a barren wasteland today.
It's not. You are just not looking hard enough or in the right places. Maybe take a look at something outside the top 40s charts for once.
I don't know how you ever found KC back then if you can't find decent music these days.
The 90's had some unbelievable rock, and there's plenty of great stuff available now too.
New King Gizzard joint coming out, Black Midi is going strong, Black Country New Road and Squid are both fantastic, Amyl and The Sniffers are pretty good if you're into punk rock. Honestly I can't think of a better time for rock music within the last twenty years!

I saw their concert from the THRAK tour in Den Hagg (The Hague) in 1995, I've seen a lot of concerts in my life, but this one I'll remember for the rest of my life... Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Trey Gunn, Bill Bruford and Pat Mastelotto, they played songs from the 80s (Discipline etc), from the THRAK album and just three songs from the 70s Red, Larks' Tongues in Aspic -Pt 2 and Talking Drum, it was an amazing surreal experience and atmosphere that can't be described with words. By the way, the beginning of Dinosaur is played by Belew on the guitar synth and on the last part as well. What can I say except, a brilliant band and great music.

I like to interpret the lyrics "any clever predator could have a piece of me" as "come get a piece of me", as Mr. Belew is also a dinosaur apparently, and dinosaurs are not so clever. I think it fits the manic, desperate, aggressive atmosphere of the track. But it made more sense when I heard "fellow predator". As a whole I think the track is a self deprecating dismissal of the "dinosaur rock" label. Again, though, it is mixed with both desperation and aggression. Like "if this is dinosaur rock, we still have more bite than you"

Their first release was in 1969 Court of the Crimson King. They predate grunge & AIC by a bit.
