Quite a fun project I put together for Kids Camp...the children loved building their own rockets and then we all launched them to see who's went higher.

    We did this in middle school in the early 2000's. It seemed like the entire grade had a lot of fun with these science projects.

    These were sold in Germany, Toy Stores in 1952. I had one when i was 7 years old.

    When I was really young, my friends dad made one of these, except he used a air compressor. I took the stuff home, wanting my dad to make one. We connected it to the compressor and it wouldn't launch. My dad put it up too 300lbs just to see if it would explode. These plastic bottles are very strong. Anyway, we launched it at around 150lbs. It disappeared, and we thought it was gone. A few minutes later, it hit my neighbor's driveway with such force, my dads like, we are lucky it didn't kill anyone. It hit really hard, probably would have killed someone if it hit them in the head. This looks much safer. Foot pump.

      Omg thank God noone got hurt and btw u could've used Nitrogen and water as soon as u flip it,it launches in the air

      Yes... my friend's dad has an air compressor (I don't) so we did something similar except we held the bottles on our hands. It exploded in my hands. Needless to say if was more that a little sore.

    I did this 3 years ago in 8th grade and for fun we had to put a chip in the rocket and somehow let the chip stay in one piece when it fell back down to the ground.

      ***** the one in the video is not cut, there is another bottle attached to the top. the nozzle is the bottle opening. It goes up very high, much higher than just air. Try it.

    this looks great! One question. What is the release mechanism? Do you pull a string and pull out the long nails, releasing the neck of the bottle?

    Instead of using an iPod for filming the rocket launch you should look on ebay for something called a spy DVR camera. You can buy them for under $10 and they are very small and film at 720p. Great vid!

    you dont even need much, just some duct tape, a bottle, a pump, and a hosepipe connected to water (and something to tie the hosepipe to)

      +Cold Frag , you pull the nails that hold the stopper in out, and the bottle "pops" off the stopper, propelling up. Watch my other video - how to make, where I explain how it works.
