Extravagantly cool. I'm surprised they aren't even more expensive. Pen-shaped cartridges! Looks horribly uncomfortable. Want. Thanks for introducing us to this (by me formerly unknown) pen.
Thanks Blake, I just found you. I have been buying old pens and second hand pens at auction and looking at this one for awhile. I will have a closer look next time I see one for sale.
I visited the Cartier store in downtown Houston looking for ink. I was told they have not made the cartridges in a very, very long time. The service technician had been worning for the store for 12 years and had never seen one. I eventually gave in and paid out the nose for a 10-pack on ebay. I bet someone could 3D print these cartridges with the right type of material. Edit- just a note, you can refill the empty cartridges with a syringe. My cartridges were very dry, but were very easy to clean out.
Looks cool. I liked that they had given attention to details and supply tools for the user. Better to buy the dried out cartriges for safety. Ha ha At least, one can fill and reuse them. Is the feed ebonite?
I am having a hard time getting the ink to flow. I have run it under warm water to clear the nib. Have not run water down the barrel where ink cartridge goes. I am using Mont Blanc Oyster Grey ink. Any ideas?
Hi Clay, I have run water down the barrel to flush out the pen. I do not know if this will damage the pen but it has been fine for mine. I have been using Iroshizuku inks with this pen with good results.
@@BlakesBroadcast Thank you. I tried it and got a lot of ink color out. However, I still had no ink flow. I do now have it working as I added in my latest comment above. It seems to be working now. Hope it stays working.
I found something that appears to have resolved my lack not ink flow issue. The cartridge is smaller (shorter) than the well it fits in. When the magazine is fitted back into the pen body, that cartridge must be pushed up in the well, therefore no link is made ink to nib. I stuck a small piece of folded plastic into the gap, reinserted the magazine, and it works. I guess it was just being pushed away from making good contact. Weird that they did not engineer that possibility out.
Hi Julie, so you are able to open the latch all the way on the bottom of the pen? If it doesn't open the best thing to do would be to bring it to Cartier for repair or send it to a trusted pen restorer. You could try soaking the pen to loosen it up but I don't know if this will damage the pen or not.
It's nice to see this pen being reviewed rather than another Leonardo or Visconti from other reviewers.
Agreed. Or another TWSBI review lol!
I am glad I could review an uncommon pen.
I have one myself and love it
It is such a unique pen! Glad to hear from another happy owner.

You are welcome! I love this pen. It is such an unusual design but it works, and it works well.

Welcome aboard! It is a fun and fascinating pen.
Nice pen, Blake. Great review here. I have that pen in Sterling Silver.
Thank you Tim! I wouldn't mind one in sterling...probably a bit more pricey than mine but I love sterling silver pens.

I like refilling the cartridges with a syringe as Cartier ink is a bit on the dry side.
Terrific exploration of our past!
Thank you David!

Hi Dash, thanks for the comment. I believe the feed on these are plastic but I could be wrong.
Great video, Blake! Thanks for sharing!
Is the pen available in different colours?
Cheers from Brazil!
Hello. I have this one in sterling silver.
It comes mostly in gold or silver metallic finishes as well as some rarer lacquer finishes.

Actually quite beautiful in a wonky sort of way !! Have you refilled the cartridges with your own choice of bottled ink?
Hi Gino, I do refill the cartridges with bottled ink. I've been using some Iroshizuku inks in this pen with very nice results.

That is interesting. I suppose with the design that would be possible.
hello good sir.
my father has this pen, how much is worth it?
thank you.
It depends on the finish and the condition. I would say they are worth $250-$400 for one in good condition.
@@BlakesBroadcast thank you good sir.
Can an empty cartridge be refilled with ink rather than buying a new cartridge?
Yes, they can be reused many times in my experience. I like putting Iroshizuku ink in this pen.
It just needs a syringe
Anyone have a source for the wheels to adjust the nib?
eBay is probably the best place to get them.
@@BlakesBroadcast Thanks
what is the worth of the ballpoint version with box?
It depends on the condition and the finish. If it is in good condition it should be worth around $200 or more.
Can I sell one of my pen like this?
I am sure you can.
Hi I have a Cartier Vendome but I can't pull out the ink cartridge barrel - any suggestions??
Thank you
Julie

Hi, thanks for your response, probably best to take it into a Cartier store. J
