I picked up another Gottlieb for the family for Christmas and what do you know the plug was bad with bare wires. Thanks to Ron’s “start at the plug” my house didn’t burn down 😂
I used to think Magic Erasers were just marketing nonsense until we got a whiteboard at work that's both for writing on and projecting on. It has a special textured surface that requires what's basically a Magic Eraser to remove the dry erase markings. Plain whiteboard erasers don't do anything, but the Magic Eraser works like a champ. Pretty amazing little cleaners!
Yeah if you look into how they're made, they're really just a chunk of melamine foam and the stuff actually does work great, I just buy the cheap stuff though :)
Looks great! The lady who bought it will sure love how that turned out! Hope that Jubilee gets its own video series soon, the stencil in the cabinet and the backglass look so cool!
Looking sweet! After the magic eraser, I’ve sometimes lightly used some Novus #2 and a lint free cloth to polish the surface and bring out the shine before waxing. Yours is looking very nice. Thanks again for the video. Enjoy the commentary too. Great stuff.
the art work reminds me of the pre-psychedelic "jukebox jamboree" style entertainment you see proliferating in post war america. the bigger the band, the more wild it was, big daddy.
The yellowing is usually caused by the clearcoat yellowing. It is not really nicotine in this case as the whole machine would be coated in it, not just the playfield. Clearcoats use chemicals that yellow over time, especially when exposed to light. Very similar to how your polished floor boards will yellow over time, and even older "ceiling white" paint tends to yellow over time.
That’s kind of what I was thinking too... you know we work on these old buildings a lot too and I frequently find old paint that had yellowed sometimes very dramatically... it’s almost always very uniform too!
@@LyonsArcade yes. It's not like the UV on plastics, it is definitely a chemical reaction, but does involve light as the covered bits are not usually as yellowed 🙂
Your videos are the best. Especially the music tracks you play in most of your videos. Awesome Ron. Merry Christmas to you, your brother Donnie, and your family.
Lots of life in those four pops up in the top half, but this machine would be a far better candidate for that post between the flippers than Stern's Stars was. That huge yawning chasm between those tiny tiny flippers just ain't fair! Who says size doesn't matter?
Looks great Ron , Looks like the "unobtainium " triangle bumpers are in good shape . But if you need a set i have some 3d repros i can send you :) Have a Merry Christmas .
I wish you showed removing the bar that holds the glass. I just inherited this same machine, and am stuck trying to remove that bar. Any tips? I am able to move the lever inside the coin door, but the bar doesn't seem to budge
You've got to move that bar way over, and then the bar will come straight up off the glass. It's common that it's stuck to the glass, there is a foam pad up there called a 'beer seal' that if someone literally spilt a beer or a soda or something on the glass, it will soak up in that pad and make it stick to the glass. Try wobbling it a little bit and if you can move it slightly it's loose it's just stuck to the glass. That's a nice machine you inherited!
@@LyonsArcade Wow, thank you so much for the speedy reply! I'll give it another shot tonight - maybe if I yell at it a little that will help ;) This was in the basement of my parents house they just sold, I remember playing it as a child, so I'm hoping it's not in too bad of shape (haven't plugged it in yet). Thanks again, and wish me luck!
Why doesn't that music start to play and time does up when I'm working on a project? You some kinda wizzard? 😋 Listening more then watching today. Might have to watch again tonight cause you're distracting and I got a new stove project going on lol Thanks man 👍👍👍
As of yesterday, I have a pinball machine here in my living room! Stoked! Nice job on this machine! Looks like the left flipper is a little off from the right?
Seeing a game become complete again is so satisfying. What kind of wax do you use? I got addicted to Carnauba wax after using it on just two pinball machines. I want to eat it :D
Definitely Carnuba wax I love that stuff. Old school classic car stuff from the 90's too, when I used to wax my old cars I'd use the same wax, it's very nice and thick.
I'm curious about the "ears" that the swingers attach to. It wasn't quite clear due to the time lapse, but are they welded to their screws? That must restrict how much you can tighten them. In general, how tight do you screw the pieces to the playfield? It really looks great, but that's no surprise given that you're doing the work. Merry Christmas!
It looks like they changed the design later, this is the first machine they used spinners on.... but yes the screw has the ears welded to them. They worked very well though and tightened up just fine, When tightening screws basically you just go until it's tight at maybe... 10 foot pounds of torque, just snug with your hand but not too crazy, they're mostly wood screws in wood so if you keep tightening you're going to break something. Thank you for the kind words William, and Merry Christmas!
They make a standard screwdriver bit for drills. As easy as these screws come out, have you tried using one of those with a cordless drill? What wood material did they use to build these? Plywood? I'm thinking that this is where all the little cracks you described (in the man's face) came from. Plywood is not a very good smooth surface. I think they relied on the paint to fill in the cracks. But over the years, the ball action brings those cracks out and then fills them with dirt. Is that your assessment? And what do you like to use for wax? ..never mind. I found it (Meguire's) on your web page. Could use a link from youtube to your web page. I had to google it.
There was a pinball machine in the mid 60's i saw in St. Louis with rows of holes and some of the rows moved, you could put extra money to get more balls. Think they paid out coins. Have you ever seen some like that? Think it was 5 cents or a penny a ball after 5
Those are called "Bingo" pinball machines Fred, some of the real old timers insist on calling those "pinball" machines and the ones like this that we call Pinball machines, "flipper" machines. The Bingos are pretty cool, I own a few but the deal is they are VERY complex, they're about 3 of these EM machines rolled into 1. I will be repairing some on this channel eventually but to be honest it won't be for at least another year.
@@LyonsArcade Would LOVE to get one of them. I also use to go to Palace Amusements in Asbury Park NJ in 1974-75 when I was station at Ft Monmouth NJ (Now closed) They had 15 to 20 of them in one area and would go to play them on Payday weekend. I like the pastel colors on that playfield. It's got a nice variety without being blinding.

Hi Joe, I normally use Novus 2 to clean the playfield and plastics and always get very good results. Never used a magic eraser before.
You definitely should use Novus #2 and you definitely should not use a Magic Eraser
OMG! You put the trumpet spinner where the saxophone player is on the playfield and vice versa! The world is going to END! :D
