What puts me off about Notion is the fact that there is no end to end encryption for your data which is a serious red flag in my book. They say that only employees would have access to your data and only with permission but, that feels like a loop hole ripe for exploitation from within and from outside the company. Obsidian on the other hand stores your data locally on your machine so is infinitely more secure by its very nature. While I like Notions implementation, well developed UI and relatively simple learning curve compared to Obsidian, the lack of end to end encryption with Notion is a serious red flag for me. Don't get me wrong ... I really like Notion compared to Obsidian but, I'd rather forgo the PROS that Notion provides compared to Obsidian, with respect to learning curve and usability, than risk the security of my personal data by using Notion. I think privacy and security, especially given the ever increasing sophistication of data breaches and risks we are faced with in this day and age, should be a key component of any product comparison reviews. Everyone should always understand any potential risks that a product you entrust with your privacy and personal data presents.
This is well put. I understand Obsidian is more secure because the data is stored locally. Also, you are right about their employees accessing customers' data. I suggest using Obsidian in this case and saving files on an external hard drive for backup purposes.
Notion allows you to work offline. It has both offline and online option while obsidian haven't online. I just tried to see if I can reach my notes offline on notion and I see that I can. I think it stores your notes on local if you set up the app as personal usage at the first.
Good video. I've been considering to start using notion or obsidian and having trouble to make a decision. My project is getting bigger and bigger (I'm making an app, and a video game for side projects) and using plain text document doesn't cut it anymore. But yeah, thanks for very informative video!
@@mks-mobile thanks for the reply. Yeah, I downloaded obsidian (and a plugin called dataview, it looks like it uses SQL like query) just now and I'm gonna look up a general starting guide before diving in :)
@@loribolognini are you serious? No, it does not work offline. Try logging in sans a net connection. Not a gonna happen. It there was a way, Notion users would not be begging for it.
@DaddyThunderKok69 So what you are saying is if you close Notion, logout, whatever and turnoff all access to the Internet, you can some how get past the login screen, access and edit your pages? WOW, I am impressed. Do tell, what OS are you using and how do you do what thousands of others including Notion cannot do?
@DaddyThunderKok69 try shutting down your phone's access. Turn off your cell connection and wifi connection and try it again. I am not trying to pick a fight, it is just that I stopped using Notion because I need a guarantee that I can get to my work notes at all times. People have been clamoring for offline Notion access for a very long time. Anyway, take care. 😀

@@mks-mobile also obsidian is offline and that big positive for me. (i have no idea if Notion is Offline or not 🤔🤔)

No problem. Obsidian should be your app if you are working on an app.

Briefly and useful. Like
Thank you
Thanks for the straight forward review, it will help me decide on with product to use.
Happy to help :)
Thank you for the work
No problem
Thanks !
Good Video. But 'AnyType' blows both of them away IMHO! 😄
Great video.
That said, when I compare Notion to Obsidian, Notion is a no go because it cannot let me work offline. Obsidian does.
This is incorrect. Notion works offline no problem with the native apps.

@@robertmaxey5406 have you tried installing the version for Win, Mac, iOS or Android? They work beautifully offline.
