That's pretty amazing! being 14 and not able to drive yet im really bumbed i couldn't bird more on the first. But im also thankful that my dad was able to drive me out and get to see some! It was great! Although your day was nothing to compare to 62 birds is really amazing! i only got 21 birds.
While the birds were cool to see, my favorite memory from the day is getting to hang out with Rob and Eric and have a big adventure. It's great that you got to spend time with your dad driving around! Often times, it's the people that make the memories and not just the birds :)
Thanks so much, Mark! We appreciate it! I don't know about Michigan, but around here the Purple Sandpipers typically only stay for a few hours it seems
Congratulations! That's really cool that you manage to get 62 species for the 1st of the year. I wasn't able to go anywhere, so I was just birding at home, and I only saw 6 species.
Great account of your day! You did very well. Watching you guys and Lesley the Bird Nerd raises my spirits as you have some gorgeous birds in in US and Canada. In this video my favourites were the turnstone, the elegant heron and the owls. Great video! Happy New Year!
I really enjoyed this video! I’ve always loved birds, but just recently I’ve started learning how to ID and have been having so much fun! I live in Florida so the species are plentiful! Thanks for the video and congrats on 62!
Hey, River! My number 1 tip would be to make lots of content and see what connects with your viewers the most. There are a couple good channels on UA-cam focusing on growth and this is one you may want to check out. -Derek ua-cam.com/video/aeDPI-7aMJU/v-deo.html
@@BadgerlandBirding sad to say I’m not even sure. I had to spend most of the day driving to GA in snow and rain, but I did have a nice flock of goose sp. in the morning 😂
What an awesome day! So many of those birds, even the ones that are more common for your area would have been lifers for me. I just got a tripod for Christmas and have been putting it to good use. I think an unofficial New Year's resolution for me will be to do more birding.
@@BadgerlandBirding yea but, there is a lot more snow here than in this video which definitely affects the amount of migratory birds that stay for the winter
That was awesome. I did the same thing here in North Florida. Plan was to get 100 species but ended the day with 96 species. Nice kickstart for the year. Least one Purple Sandpiper shows up here in Huguenot Park almost every winter, probably only place in Florida where they do come regularly and yes, they do like to hang out with Ruddy Turnstones. Great birding! 👍
That's interesting that they like to hang out together. Sounds like you had a very solid first of the year as well! What was your favorite bird you saw?
I'm jealous! Good for you guys. I had to work on the 1st (I'm a park ranger) so I got about 30 species as I was leading hikes all day. Maybe one of these years I'll get the day off so I can do a proper first of the year count.
Wow 62 birds in any state would be fantastic but especially where you guys are located there in Wisconsin fantastic here in California where I'm at see my best New Year's Day I think I had 57 species I had 30 of them just in my yard alone when I lived in South Laguna that's in Laguna Beach California for you guys there anyways I'm glad I found your channel I'll definitely be a frequent visitor of it might even want to book a tour with you guys if you guys happen to go to Panama I would love to go to Panama all right happy birding.

Agreed
Its nice to see other 14 Year old birders :)
Same here lol
Write it down, Y'All my favorite birding channel. I am hoping to see a purple soon. Holland, MI State Park has had a purple almost every winter.

Outstanding! 62 is a solid effort. Now you have me already looking forward to January 1st!

Great recap of a great day!

Really enjoyed the video. It pumped me up for a bird survey I’m doing on Saturday for the Audubon Society. Thanks.
I'm glad it made you excited for your survey! Good luck and find some rarities for us!
Makes me excited for 01/01/23 since I didn't start listing until March this year. 203 species though! (in U.K)
Great first day. Congrats
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Thanks. As I read this just got a heads up for a yellow throated warbler. Wouhouu
What an amazing video! I have a question; what would be your number 1 tip for small birding channels who want to grow on UA-cam?

@@BadgerlandBirding okay, Thank you!
Congrats! That’s a heck of a start to 2022! You’ve got a lot of rarities across the lake from where I’m at. Time to send the east to Michigan!
It's definitely been a good year around the lake
Well that was fantastic!!❤️☮️

I love your channel. I also have a life list of birds and I've seen over 260 different species of birds.
Thanks so much for watching! Solid total!
@@BadgerlandBirding So far, I've seen 261 species of birds to be exact.

I just got the 58th species of this year the snow bunting, crazy you guys saw 62 on the first day.

Yes, we do. Very handy tool for tallying species and keeping precise records
When are you two going ivory Billed hunting?
There could potentially be a video about that in our futures!
