    Hello Nelson, Two years later and I use your tutorial video to refresh the lesson on spraying fungicide. Third week of June and it's bloom booster, superthrive, cal-mag and seaweed feeding. After dinner I'll spray with Physan-20 and wash the patio. Our cats and dog will be in for the evening so everything will be dry in the morning. Thanks again and kindly remind your viewers about revisiting your tutorial videos. Respectfully,

      You’re such a teacher. 🤩 Perfectly put. I’m on my spraying season as well. Pests have been pretty damaging. I’ve found a couple of orchids damaged from scales and mites. I have so many that I do miss some here and there furring the heavy heat. I’ll be spraying this week for sure.

    Hi Nelson, Just found your video on the Physan 20. I have a succulent and cacti collection and noticed a small breakout in rust fungus. I live in San Diego and we are getting a lot of rain so of course I’m not surprised that I have the breakout. I’ve never pretreated but with climate change I’m going to have to start this regimen in the future. I have a question regarding when you pre-treat plants if it rains a couple of days after you have treated should you retreat again? How often are you treating with the Physan 20 when you have not had a breakout. On the plants that have the fungus should I move to stronger treatment? Or do you think the Physan 20 will be enough. Appreciate your advice 🙏🏼

    Great tutorial Nelson I’am agree with you with this exact sphagnum moss if I’am right she’s coming from New Zealand,i love it because it’s a long fiber and far easier to repot ,one advice Nelson i think that your phalaenopsis will be more happy mounted than in a pot.And thanks to recall that we have to watering before adding fertilizer or phyzen ! I’am again stunning how much it’s green in your area’s ! Here it’s hot and dry wind coming from North Africa so it’s several spray by day ! • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Sebastien. I did learn that phals do well on mounts as long as the roots are rapped in the moss. I tried both ways with and without moss. The bare roots dry the plant out. I’m replanting most of my phals now in pots and taking them to my indoor terrace. They love it there. We have an extremely humid climate in Miami. We live inside a greenhouse. Our plants never go dry here. Miami keeps it green.

It’s so painful ! Can I recommend you to check this beautiful African orchids like anselia africana and an other crossing it’s not African orchids ! Its sedirea japonica x vandopsis parishii ! I owned the latest and it’s a must to have the fragrance is just remarkable it’s a kind of phal but with grapes spikes ! Very easy to blooming for Christmas ! • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому

      Hey Jo! Hope you found the sprayer at Aldi. I always do 2 teaspoons now because Physan is not as strong or toxic as Captain Fungicide or other strong fungicides. As a preventative I find it better when upping the dosage on the Physan. And yes, rinse rinse rinse after any application. Specially when you have pets. I hardly ever use the hardcore stuff because I’m not keen on those heavy chemicals. I’m seeing how neem oil as a preventative will work on my orchids for pest. I also want to reduce the use of pesticide due to all my beautiful bees, butterflies, and dragonflies that inhabit my garden.

      @@jodeming5088 I have not been using the neem oil yet. I have a new bottle to use. When I get back I will begin spraying with neem oil. I may have to buy a separate sprayer only because neem oil does clog the sprayers after several uses. Okay me of the set back from using neem. In India the farmers use allot of natural oils and plants to eliminate pests. They are big users of neem. I just have to figure out a way to use it effectively in my zone. We are in pests center out here in the Everglades.

      Where I live it is a haven for every pest you can imagine. It’s really really bad. I’ve tried so many organic products and they all go to waist cause it does nothing to the pest. I even had a coconut tree get filled with white flies to the point it looked like snow. It literally happened at the blink of an eye. I had to spray with Orthene which is a very extreme pesticide. It was the only option. The whiteflies were already reaching my orchids in my areca palms. One application killed them all. But I hate to have to use it cause of the bees and butterflies. I’m looking into using neem oil again as a preventive to avoid the heavy chemicals. But in severe cases the neem oil does absolutely nothing.

      @naturenel  2 роки тому

      Hello there Jan! You are very welcome. I loved what you guys brought to the show. Really awesome minis.😍 I usually treat my scales with Permatrol . It’s a soapy type of insecticide that is not as toxic as Orthene. That’s the strongest out there that I’ve used, but only in really bad infested plants. It’s very strong and extremely toxic. You can not spray unless properly geared up. Also if you have any animals or pets, they can get poisoned by it. So always try less toxic first and use the hard stuf in worse case scenario. I’m actually gonna start using neem oil again. The chemicals are harmful to the bees so I am trying out new alternatives.

    Nelson, I lost a huge cymbidium to Black Rot so now am on HIGH ALERT for anything! Suggestion was made to use the Physan 20 routinely every 3 weeks (I'm in North Georgia (zone 7B). And the systemic fungicide every 6 weeks. What would you suggest? I've sprayed both 5/28. Thanks!!

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there Hal. I normally spray once a week for preventative during the wet season as a rule of thumb. If it’s really humid and wet constantly, I begin a cycle of every 4 day spraying. You may want to focus the fungicide mainly on cymbidiums, Agraecums, and Zygopetalums. They seem to get allot of fungus compared to other orchids. Double dose it. 2 teaspoons per gallon. Now I’m basing everything on my zone and setup. You are zone 7. Very different than mine. So I would go slow on the fungicide and see how that works. If you still see an increase on fungus, then start hitting it every 4 days for about a month.

      @@naturenel Thank you, I have never used chemicals with my orquids, I always use Neem oil, I'm going to try this Physan20, it is raining a lot and see how this one works.

      Repotme does for a $24 shipping fee, but their prices for physan 20 are a bit higher.

    Can you mix the chemical to treat thrips with Physan 20? Thanks.

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому +2

      You can. You may use Permatrol with Physan 20. Keep in mind you are increasing the toxicity when cocktailing your chemicals. Wear protective gear.

    Nelson, I think I did a boo boo, I did half of a cap of pure physan 20 and now two of my orchids look weird and I think they may die… I hope not!!! Help!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🫣🌸🌞❤️🥹🥹🥹

      @naturenel  2 роки тому +1

      Oh no! It’s 1/2 a teaspoon to a gallon of water. But even if you use a cap it should not kill them. Physan 20 is not a harsh chemical. Do you have the orchids in the sun? Sometimes that can cause leaf burn when you do the fungicide. Also only spray them early morning. Not in the afternoon. All feeding, fungicide/pesticides , and watering are done early morning. Keep me posted. For now all you can do is rinse them well to relieve it from the excess fungicide. But please do it early so that once the morning sun starts warning up, the orchids begin to dry.

      @@naturenel I have them in my apartment in the Bronx NY, no direct sun… but it was a few days ago and they look off… I did not rinse them because I thought I May have rotted my Phalaenopsis. Thanks Nelson… hope I don’t do this again. I am monitoring them one seems the root are dying (drying) and the leaves have spotted and have breaks in both of the orchids. 🥹🦠🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому +1

      @@ileanavalerio3637 it sounds more like you have root rot. If the base of the orchid looks black, chances are it may be too much watering. If you keep them indoors and the medium holds moisture, that can also be a factor. In keeping orchids there are tons of variables that go into growing them and your environment is the main one. I hope they bounce back🙏🏼

    Put water in first then fungicide. It won’t foam up.

    • @naturenel
      @naturenel  2 роки тому +1

      Yes but then you have to mix the 2 gallons well. By using the hose inside it circulates the product and water evenly. It’s my personal preference.

      @@naturenel Make sure you clean the outside of the hose very well since it will have residual fungicide and you do not want to get it on your hands. Also make sure the bench or what ever the hose touch gets washed off well. I worked with radioactive isotopes and it teaches you very well about cross contamination.
