Lance Reddick's Battle with Typecasting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лис 2019
- Typecasting is something that every actor has to deal with throughout their career, and although you may think it's strange to get upset when you're being offered jobs, Lance Reddick was just sick of playing the same types of characters over and over again.

RIP Lance Reddick he was a tremendously talented actor and he was excellent on Lost, Fringe and American Horror Story. Gone too soon sadly but what a great career ans legacy to leave behind!
Man, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Broyles on Fringe. He was perfect for that role.
Same with Daniels on The Wire. Insane to think anybody else could've had that role.
May he rest in peace.
The white dove
literally *anyone* could have portrayed broyles...
the entire part was to stare ominously at dunham for about 4 seconds then tell her that shes the most wonderful amazing and inspirational little mary-sue ytgirl he's ever had the career-fulfilling pleasure of working with
@@rickdeckard1075 literally anyone can play any role. Or do any other jobs for that matter
No one's talking about his most understated yet one of my favorite roles. The receptionist in John Wick, he was so cool calm and collected in that. Just an amazing actor.
I love that he picks characters quite different from his own more open and energetic personality.
God this man needs to be Martian Manhunter, voice, acting skills, built. Damn it WB
Wow facts, I can't unsee it now
There's just something Martian Manhunter about this guy. Glad I'm not the only one who sees it
I agree now that you said that.
Phenomenal actor. He absolutely steals the scenes he's in.
His presence onscreen is very intimidating- almost scary! Nice to see his own personality is so different. 👏😊
I've loved him in a lot of TV and movies, but my favorite character of his has got to be Sylens, from the videogame Horizon Zero Dawn. Amazing character and portrayal.
I'm convinced that Vince Gilligan got the phrase "breaking bad" from Lance when he said "you're out there jumping bad " in The Wire.
Man, today sucks. This guy was great, may he rest in peace.
Lance is so frikkin' awesome. He can do more with his mouth closed and simple tightening of his cheeks to communicate disdain or some other emotion than actors with a page of dialogue. Loved that he was so open in this interview re Bosch. Notably, he doesn't really say anything like "But surprisingly to me, Chief Irwin's character arc has turned out to be really interesting and complex" ha hah.. My favorite scene of his thus far in Bosch is his simply pressing the electric window up in his car to essentially ice the person across from him in another car.
Reddick as Cutler in Tron: Uprising gave the character a lot of weight because of his voice, but his previous works helped establish what they were going for with Cutler as well.
Lance was great in Wick. It was refreshing to see him in a whole new role. In fact, I need to go watch a clip about it (ended up here while watching The Wire for the first time having seen him in everything else)
Watch him as Papa Legba in AHS. Completely different character!
@@janshelton189 same accent in John wick as Papa Legba..I thought he actually spoke like that
It was so trippy to discover that Sylens was an actual real person. He was great in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West
I cannot overstate how great he played Broiles in Fringe. Great show, even better casting 👏👏👏
He’ll always be Cedric Daniels to me...awesome character on the best show
Idris gets all the attention but this man is HOT.
He is!
Ha, my sister almost had a heart attack when he took his shirt off in The Wire...
@@DodderingOldMan i saw it recently on Twitter, this guy is like Terminator!
I loved him in Fringe. He nailed that role.
Sorry he is gone. Always enjoyed watching him do his thing.
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
Eh?
Knew this will be here
@@onepcwhiz It's an iconic voiceline from Destiny. Lance Reddick is voice acting in it, as well as the sequel.
I need to see more of this man performing his craft on a regular basis, I only have Netflix
How good to see you again so soon, Mr. Wick. Shall I announce you?
He was amazing in Eric Andre
You need a new desk
I WISH I WAS LAVAR BURTON
He was great in Key and peele “gay wedding advice” 🤣
This man led us in the Red Legion's Siege on the Tower
Love him in the wire, every member of the cast is correctly cast. Big up lance
Lance is a legend, I mean he may be pissed about being typecast but the motherfucker was born to play these serious as fuck authority figures. There is nobody better.
He was excellent on Fringe.... perfection
He’s so versatile. His comedic roles are untouchable
very interesting person
This isn't that old of a video.... he seems very clear minded, young, vigorous, and healthy... what happened??
the sad answer is that he died young even though he was in good health.
I know him! He's the guy who typecast as "Guy who really likes to say the name 'Bosch' a lot"
He's got pretty big since the wire
I first watched him on Fringe, and now Bosch. It made me miss Fringe!
Checkout 'The Wire'. He is even better in that when compared with Fringe and Bosch
Cannot imagine Lance as Charlie. Just cannot.
RIP
love this actor
R.I.P. Lance😢
Oh man I need to go back and watch OZ again
Prag
The Heart Of A Blackbird lool u heavily implied that u love Oz but dont know what a Prag is? Lmaoo
@@LorFire My bad. It's been a while...
gone too soon, rest well Lance
He plays a great LAPD Chief on Bosch!
All I hear is Sylens 😂
I know him as Zavala
Everything he’s in is great
Whoa he’s so much bigger than he was on the wire
Good actor
John Stewart, Green Lantern
I actually think he would fit the role of Martian Manhunter.
This man has that “I wish a nigga would” energy.
He was my favorite in The Wire. Asshole type but played the hell out of his role.
Daniel's is good police.
Dammit Lance.
Hampton Deville Charon lol
That's insane that they almost completely passed him up for broils😵💫😵💫😵💫 Four times that's insane. Love Fringe, RIP Lance
I am SO glad he is Cheif Irving!!
I feel like I know Lance. I do mean to sound pretentious.. We must be kindred spirits 😬😁🌮
lance sounds like frostbolt
This is the guy from the Eric Andre show right?
I wish I were Levar Burton

@@MEXICAN673 that reference... Magnificent.
@@jbaruch3671 Terrific, I know
2:31 Third time is not a charm
These are great interviews but the cuts are so unnecessary, I end up listening only as it’s too distracting.
Why in black and white?
Zavala
lol I still think of him as the most typecast actor in the biz.
You think he gets typecasted in John Wick, Horizon Dawn, Corporate or Quantum Break?
I like lance but i cannot stand zevala dude
The host is right, he seems pissed every time he gets an offer. Glad I'm not a struggling actor, that would probably bug me...
It is a crime that nobody has yet cast Lance as a teenge white girl. Probably because of racism or maybe transphobia.
Is this supposed to be... funny?
@@timschondorfer3814,
for some, watching the video is a lot of work, much easier to type something nonsensical.
@@mnchls yeah. i laughed. wet blanket
