Dave, I don't know if you still read comments on these old posts, but there's another benefit I've found to budgeting. I'm all of two weeks in on following your plan, and I can already tell a huge difference in my life. Even when I had my "head in the sand" regarding my debt, I knew it was still there. And even though I was trying desperately hard NOT to think about it, the situation was still a huge drain on my energy and my emotional wellbeing. I've started creating a budget this month, and while I can already see kinks to work out, I no longer FEEL like I'm drowning. I feel like I've started to doggy-paddle for the first time. I'm already making changes in how I run my household, not just financially. When you have a plan, you begin to feel a purpose. And when you have a purpose, you can look at your life clearly and see that you HAVE the power to make changes in all areas of your life, not just financially. So yes, please let people know that that extra time and work that people put into planning a budget will be repaid exponentially in more time and energy to address all areas of their lives. And please let them know that your financial wellbeing (or sickness, in my case) affects ALL areas of your life. A little bit of work pays all sorts of rewards.
So love your show, Dave! I'm starting to feel hopeful about my future again. It's been so encouraging paying things off and I saved my bank letter that said my car was paid off. Cannot wait to get the rest paid off! Thank God for giving us the DR show and using you to help people hear wisdom, sometimes for the first time. I'm currently working two jobs and can't wait to be on your show with the debt free scream one day! :)
My Beba Life I saved the paper I got from the bank saying no to me getting a line of credit because I wanted to add on to the carport. I felt so relieved when they said no :-) Actually, I was proud of God. They said I couldn't handle more debt (I only had debt on my mortgage) because my income was too small. I thought praise God who could help me, a single mom with 6 children, own a home. He's been so faithful and I've paid the house down to $25,000. Thank you, Jesus.

@Julie Satterfield, that is awesome! :)!! I'm currently using every dollar app and I highly recommend it. It's awesome and sooooeasy to use. You think you didn't have enough money to pay off debts but once you have written your budget down it completely changed the way you spend it. Thanks Dave... forever grateful.... I'm using it religiously 🤗
I used to be a diddy bopper. I knew there was a problem, but it took me ages to realize that I was the problem. That’s my motto these days. I’m the problem. I’m a completely different person. Thank you Dave for being real, and giving the advice that you do. It’s so hard to articulate these days, but you do it well👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just found you somehow....and I am addicted to your videos!! I shared with my 2 daughters to hopefully open their eyes. Thank you so much for all you do for everyone....PRICELESS!!!!!
I still use my register and check it against my statement online. I've actually come across some errors where I was charged twice for a purchase. I will check out Every Dollar.
I use a notebook so I can write more detailed notes down. My husband had a bad habit of asking me about a check months after the fact and I couldn’t recall all the details. Now I can. LoL
I’m a single mom who get me no help, and I’ve been feeling hopeless about my finances. So I sat down and wrote out a budget and plan for my debt. There will be a lot of beach bum days this summer and finding cheap and free things to do. I actually found a 200.00 bucks left a month over after paying my bills and saving for my retirement. I was always short and I found out why by just writing ✍️ everything down I found where my stupid was🙃
My wife still uses registers and I use the online register. Then every few days we sit down and compare. There have been a few times we have caught errors that recovered our funds that was. But then again we are those people who review our store receipts and catch errors there as well.
This is so true! I don't do prospective budgeting, but I track all my expenses and it's beautiful. Accurately tracking expenses is essential. It's great to look data from 5 years ago and see how much I was earning, spending, spending on what... it really puts things into perspective
You can do it man! Takes a few times to find out what budget works best for you. It's just great to see where all your money is going and make adjustments when necessary.
It is hard, I personally failed plenty of times at the beginning. Not taking stuff into account, impulse-buying stuff. But after a while you start getting better at it. Just like with any other activity, practice makes perfect.
I would not say budgeting is easy, but it became fun challenge for me after several month. I spend so little now that I often wonder if it is worth it, then I realized that at certain point it is not about how much I can save, it's about that I am totally immune to the wants for the rest of my life, which allows me to contribute more of my income to investment and have lower stress level when the next recession or financial crisis hits. Buying a ream of paper costs $9. With 10 min online search the same realm of paper becomes $1. Don't think it's a $8 difference, think that you can save further by not printing anything and therefore you save the whole $9. That's the fun I am talking about - people feel bored because they are not exercising their brain. By trying hard to save money you get the satisfaction from thinking. Eventually budgeting is just a template of spending behavior, instead of handcuffs.
I moved to the place I am at right now about 5 years ago. All my utilities doubled or trippled because I am out in the country. I "woke up" financially a couple weeks ago. Once I did my budget and started thinking about stuff, I realized that the extra money I was spending on utilities was not as bad as I had thought and the expense does not really impact my budget much. Its amazing the things we tell ourselves.
I do online banking and check my accounts, but I still use a physical paper check register! I thank God for you, Dave Ramsey! Because of FPU, I paid my condo off 7 years early and paid off $25,000 in credit card debt and paid of car all in 3years. Thank you and blessings!
Having an emergency fund is great. 5 years ago I had an issue where I was flying to Sao Paulo Brazil and while in Mexico city the people who gave me my boarding pass did not return my immigration papers which resulted in me missing my flight. Thanks to having an emergency fund I was able to buy a new plane ticket and keep going south for the winter. Thanks to the emergency fund I was spending my Christmas sweating on the beach with a margarita and coxinha while all my family and friends were freezing like ice cubes in Boston Ma.
Funny to think that you've helped multiple people in my life. Telling people to play it safe and do the right thing is virtuous all on it's own. Thank you for being consistent. Regardless of whether or not you practice what you preach.... Most of these behaviors are rewarding independent of your philosophy. Like understanding debt... Very rewarding to not have any debt whether you like Dave Ramsey or not.
Dave opened my eyes to how sloppy I was with money. I fell into the "must build my credit" lie and the lie that College would guarantee me a great job with great income. Both suckered me into having too big of a mountain to climb. Even got my mom an iPhone 7 through financing without giving it a second thought. But, now I'm climbing. Just paying off the credit card felt like getting a raise. Now I'm doing a budget the way Dave Ramsay lays out. It feels like another raise.
Love the show; have learned a lot. Wish people would take this great advice and change the attitude of "live for right now" and then complain why they are up to their eyeballs in debt. You can do it when you're in a better position. Take the time and sacrifice for a relatively short period of time. And never repeat what you did in the past.
I remember check books back when I was 18 years old I wrote down almost eveything before It helps track your spending back when I was single in college I did it mostly on my own besides the roof over my head really helped me not to live beyond my needs!
I’ve been doing detailed budgeting for 20 years (since i got a mortgage). But only since discovering Mr Ramsey have I gained the knowledge to know which direction to take my finances. Am now on Baby Step 2 and excited about the future. Thanks Dave 👍
I literally just did that yesterday...am that big a nerd...balancing my checkbook in the old school way. Am at the bank three times a week and ALWAYS ask for an updated balance on the transcript...I KNOW WHERE MY MONEY THAT I WORKED HARD FOR IS
Thank God I actually followed my budget. I had no idea how much money I was wasting.... budgeting revealed my relationship with money and how much of it I was using as a way to distract myself. So wasteful of the blessing of my income. I now value my money, I thank God for my ability to earn money, and treat my money with love, gratitude and awareness.
Holly Carver A house. Paying cash for a 200K house isn’t plausible for most people and the method Dave talks about is relatively unheard of. I love Dave but you do need credit for a home:
Just downloaded the app this week even though we’re halfway through the month. But it was easy and realized exactly what you said I was doing silly stuff instead of allocating money to where it will be helpful in case of emergencies or being prepared for what use to be unexpected car expense
Hahaha... This is a funny video I enjoyed watching. Sigh with a smile. I was working for a Lockheed subsidiary as an office worker. When I passed by the accounting department, I would see the accountants sometimes working with spreadsheet pads. This was about 1990, a few months into the new job, and I started paying attention to what everyone was doing. I looked at the pads we had in my stockroom office (I was the mail clerk in charge of office supplies for the company) and I saw how it was structured, and of course, the light bulb went off in my head. The great thing was, I did not have a "uh-oh" moment that prompted me to pick up this practice. No. When I saw the spreadsheet pad in my supply area, I realized the power it gave me to budget myself for each month. I got one and started using it for my person finances. I didn't have a computer anymore, as I had to sell it to pay bills. I would say that I was running my personal budget like this for about 3.5 years, and I got another computer just before I left the company and moved to another city (1994). I learned about the magic of a spreadsheet on a computer very shortly after my purchase. I used it for the rest of the 90s, and come 2000, I lost just about everything I had except for my computer, which was very outdated and unsaleable in those days. After my losses, I was in a fog, living on my disability income only and starting over afresh. I think I continued to use a spreadsheet to get back on my feet, as I remembered, "Okay, I have this much for this month, so this month, I need to get this for the apartment." Not want. Need. I was trying to rebuild my life as fast as my income would allow. I apparently stopped at some point, and then started using a spreadsheet again in 2006 after I had become financially literate and realized that I needed to use the practice again because I had gotten into gold/silver during the height of the housing boom right into the housing bust. I've been using a spreadsheet from that point on. 13 years. This is a wonderful skill to have! It allows you to see clearly what your income is, what your expenses are, and whether what you have left in your bank account and wallet really does match what's on paper or screen. It gives you the discipline to know exactly what you are left with at the end of the month AND help you decide what to do with this money, like investing or transitioning into the new month with the first due payment of the month. The discipline I have is such that if I lost a dime or a Rs. 1 coin when it rolled into a street drain, I would have to mark it down on my phone and then add the dime or the Rs. 1 to the account total for the month THAT DAY. Every single penny or rupiye is tracked this way.
What's a blessing, I give 10% plus a love offering plus an extra seed. That has caused honor with God. With Honor comes favor and blessings. I'm financially free
I noticed that when I was low on money I would always avoid looking at my bank account. I've been using the every dollar budget app for one month now and it's there first month I haven't run out of money before the end of the month.
Back to school season when everything gets marked down and you get to buy new pens and notebooks so you can budget on paper, make to do lists, and plan? Priceless!
That stress/heart rate excuse is actually conviction by the holy spirit to do what you know is right. There's a guilt and a dread about your unwillingness to comply that just bugs you till you do it. Thanks be to God.
What I say is that if it isn't written down, then it didn't happen. So if you have a "budget" but it's not all written out, then it's not a budget. I used to have panic attacks after my roommate moved out, wondering how I would pay my rent every month. Before, my income out spent my stupidity, but when your bills aren't split, it gets expensive. I had a "budget" but it wasn't written out. Finally, I got my act together and did Everydollar. And guess what? I found money. Not just money, but lots of money. Just spent on silly, trivial things. So I've got that all figured out.

Julie Satterfield That's amazing. Your children are so lucky to have you. In Jesus name Amen.
Smileyyy21 Thank you Smileyyy21. God is the amazing One :-) the kindest most faithful Father... I still struggle but I'm on my way :-)
You'll get there My Beba Life! It does take time, self discipline, hard work and sacrifice, but ultimately in the end, IT WILL PAY OFF! I pray for the Lord to continue to bless you and if you're not currently married, your future husband's going to be getting a true, virtuous woman someday!
@Julie Satterfield, that is awesome! :)!! He has stopped me before making poor financial decisions too and I've found that the more I lean into Him and soak in what He has to say about money, the easier it's becoming. I still sometimes make poor choices, but am working towards financial freedom and it's amazing how it feels! Congratulations on paying your mortgage down to $25K! Keep going! You'll get there! :)! Congratulations!
Don’t buy a plane ticket to go to Aunt Henrietta’s funeral if you’re in debt. You should’ve seen her when she was alive!
Good point
I think that’s an emergency fund moment if she was a close family member.
MAN THAT HAPPENED TO ME !!! AND THE RELIEF OF TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE WAY I HAVE BEEN THROWING MY MONEY AROUND. CHANGED MY LIFE. NOW... BUDGETS, ON PAPER MONTHLY. THANK YOU. WHAT FREEDOM
Thank you Dave... U are truly awesome, if ur family can carry ur legacy we are going to be gold
I laughed out loud when he said "whatever you budget for food you're wrong"
That was EXACTLY what happened to me. My first month on a budget was a "Holy s### I spend THAT MUCH on food???!" experience.
The 105 people who disliked this don't have a budget.
Written budget and the envelope method!! Literally changing my life right now!!!
This is very encouraging!
Dave Ramsey and this channel are a true blessing, I feel so connected and in control when I listen to your show!
I love my check book register, totally rely on it!
I'm currently using every dollar app and I highly recommend it. It's awesome and sooooeasy to use. You think you didn't have enough money to pay off debts but once you have written your budget down it completely changed the way you spend it. Thanks Dave... forever grateful.... I'm using it religiously 🤗
I stopped doing his 7 baby steps...like an idiot.......but I'm back on it.....and it feels good!!!
Sleepy Eyez Carter
💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆🥇
I flunked FPU... But got to go back to night school...
Do I remember checkbook registers? I still use them.
Me too
Im loving this! For the first time in my life i started a written budget since the start of this yr!
I laughed at "there's a problem"
Then you realize "I'M THE PROBLEM!!!"
I still use a register. Old school.
I use a notebook so I can write more detailed notes down. My husband had a bad habit of asking me about a check months after the fact and I couldn’t recall all the details. Now I can. LoL
Yep! I'm a nerd!!! I"m a big fan of Dave Ramsey! He changed my life!
"I'm adulting!!" 😂😂😂 I always thought that was a funny word lol
This is so true! I don't do prospective budgeting, but I track all my expenses and it's beautiful. Accurately tracking expenses is essential. It's great to look data from 5 years ago and see how much I was earning, spending, spending on what... it really puts things into perspective
It's hard to keep to a budget so much wants vs needs but I will try to stick to a budget
Eventually budgeting is just a template of spending behavior, instead of handcuffs.
jman96camry sometimes you can fit a "want" in your budget. Just gotta make room for it!
try gift cards
I moved to the place I am at right now about 5 years ago. All my utilities doubled or trippled because I am out in the country. I "woke up" financially a couple weeks ago. Once I did my budget and started thinking about stuff, I realized that the extra money I was spending on utilities was not as bad as I had thought and the expense does not really impact my budget much. Its amazing the things we tell ourselves.
When i get my paycheck i add up my grocery money and write grocery, utilities ,savings, etc i tell my money what its going to do
I do online banking and check my accounts, but I still use a physical paper check register!
Being good at explaining common sense is an important job. Always has been. I have always had respect for people who save people from themselves. 💛
We are each other's keepers whether we like it or not.
Thanks a lot for your efforts to educate.. really appreciate it
All you say is totally true and absolutely right !!!
Dave I am a paper planner person! I am trying the every dollar app but I am still having to use paper along with it! Love the app though
I still use a checkbook register.
I do too . I went to the bank and asked for a couple. Someone had no idea what it was 🤔 "can you describe what it is?". Lol
I just ordered new checks I didn't need just to get another register....
Your videos are now my personal consultations with a financial planner!
I still do my checkbook this way. Helps me keep better discipline with our money.
So glad i found you dave 👏😥
Your advice is great. Can you please do a video on how to handle debt in collections, to improve a bad credit score. Thank you
B. Davis he would say “why do you need a credit score if you don’t need to borrow”
Holly Carver A house. Paying cash for a 200K house isn’t plausible for most people and the method Dave talks about is relatively unheard of. I love Dave but you do need credit for a home:
@@Holeyeful Dave shows how to purchase a new home and with whom without Credit.
This is wonderful guys never too late to discipline
Absolutely. It only takes that one moment.
Ty for down to earth videos.
Yuk
How??
I noticed that when I was low on money I would always avoid looking at my bank account. I've been using the every dollar budget app for one month now and it's there first month I haven't run out of money before the end of the month.
Best advice ever.
Budgeting was one of the hardest concept for me to grasp at first but fast forward to today and I have money in case anything comes my way.
It's all about visualizing it! A nebulous problem is not one you can reasonably tackle!
Adulting is hard though.....
Clint Rosendall but it is worth it 😁😁
Ok boomer
Deciding to adult is the hardest part
Yep, it's hard, but it's worth the struggle, especially in the long run.
You crack me up ! Truth !!
I’m finally Adulting, take responsibility, creating a plan, and executing!
My budget is too simple to write down.
Pension $2400.
Work pay $450- $450
-300 Rent
-320 Food
-50 iPhone
THANK YOU DAVE. YOUR THE BEST!!!
